Sorry but Gingerbread is going to annihilate the iPad when it comes out.

I assume you're talking about the iPad 3 in 2012. See, Froyo (2.2) has been out for about 9 months now and look how many Android users are even on it.

http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html

Just barely over half and that threshold was just crossed at the holidays meaning it's probably due to new devices, not upgrades to the OS. The rate of adoption for new versions of the Android OS is glacial by comparison to iOS (IIRC, Apple reported that half of their users were already on iOS 4.0 within a month of its release.)

So, for Android 3.0 to "annihilate" iOS, it's going to have to be ridiculously forward-looking and be able to compete with whatever Apple will be putting out in 2012.

You mean Honeycomb 3.0 not Gingerbread 2.3

Froyo? Honeycomb? Gingerbread? What else, Gollum, Butter Cookie and Christmas Brownie?

That's exactly why Android will NEVER surpass Apple...the OS version fragmentation is too much for any ordinary user's taste...people are already feeling it in smartphones and they won't want it in tablets, especially considering that the iPad ecosystem is so well consolidated.

But there is no Android tablet fragmentation.

Honeycomb is the 1st Android OS designed for use on tablets and that's that.

No-one is holding a gun to the head of other hardware companies telling them they are not allowed to make what they want with any OS they want. Samsung could bring out a XP, Windows7, Linux, Android for phone, etc tablet. it's up to them.

But there is only one version for tablets that's going to be out soon.

Is there a propper keynote about honycomb? I have only been able to find this 90 Second Video demo that did not blow my mind to the point were i would understand people that say it´s going to rull all.

I have seen some Mac people shout loudly on these forums over the past year about how Apple don't put up prices.

Perhaps they will put up the price of the iPad? They put the price of the Mac Mini up didn't they?

If you are selling them as fast as you can make them, then why not hike up the price at the same time you increase the spec?

I'm guessing the new models will be

32gig AT&T 3G

32gig Verizon 3G

64gig ???

Maybe drop the old model to $400 or below.

I can see them supporting 3 distinct models. 2 new (iPad 2) models for $599/699 (32/64GB).
(The two $599's can be for different carriers - ATT/Verizon)
And keeping the old iPad 1 (16GB) price point at $499. (That is, I can see Apple not dropping the prices for iPad 1 ... although it would be nice :) )

Hmm

My instinct is that the 16 will drop down to $400, the 32 to $500 and the new ones will be 64 or 128.

I would prefer a wi-fi model with just the hi-res screen and facetime camera for 500 usd. I dont need the backside cam or the sd card slot. I hope the basemodel doesnt have these extra's.

The sword would cut in two directions: Apple can keep the entry price low and there would be more reason for people to upgrade to the 3G/CDMA versions if there were other extra's there.

When the 2011 iPads are released, I think one of the current (2010) models will remain in the pipeline at the lowest $499 price,or maybe even lower...

it wouldn't be crazy (to me at least) if apple raised the price $50/$100 for the second gen ipad.

if they're adding so many new features and it stays the same price as the now-seemingly bare-bones ipad 1, that'd be weird. they won't cut their profits with the ipad 2, they know they have the bets tablet so it makes sense to be confident about raising prices for it.

i think the 32GB wifi will start at 650 or somethin, and they'll cut the prices of the 1st gen by 100 to get people to cross over to ipad 2.

It was overpriced at $500, but $600? Wow.

The thing cannot even properly view half of the internet (Read: flash) yet costs more than most laptops.

Save the money and buy yourself a real tablet.

Please do others some favor and read before you post. Gingerbread is not for Android tablets. It's for android phones. Android honeycomb 3.0 is for the tablet. Please stop giving out false info. Also iPad is not overpriced compare to other tablets like Galaxy Tab.

Apple would be stupid to raise the price $100!!! I would not be happy?

No they wouldn't be. Would you have rather them to drop the retina display support and keep the same resolution?

For me, no.

If you really are not going to be happy about 100 dollars price increase, then don't buy. If you you are of those people who are counting every pennies and coins to buy ipad, then you shouldn't be even getting one in the first place.

For me 599 dollars is very exceptional cost for iPad with retina display. There will be no scaling down movie on there FULL 1080P.

My thought exactly. There is no such thing an insurance company stopped insuring XYZ item. They insure everything, you just have to pay for it.

Of course insurance companies sometimes drop coverage entirely. Years ago liberty mutual notified me it would no longer insure my corvette--at any price. More recently state farm dropped homeowners coverage for tens of thousands of floridians.
We all need to be careful not to overgeneralize our beliefs into facts. Too much of that going around these days.
And as for those who endorse insurance fraud, can't we just call them what they are: petty thieves, stealing from all of us. It's an unfortunate and not very attractive subset of society.
Peace!

Like how they do with the iPhone:

1. 3G 8GB/ 3GS 16GB/ 3GS 32GB

2. 3GS 8GB/ iPhone4 16GB/ iPhone4 32GB

3. iPad 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB

4. iPad 16GB/ iPad2 32GB/ iPad2 64GB

You sir, are not the normal person are you? I don't understand how you can say $500 was overpriced, and that you can get laptop for less. What kind? An AMD? You should go to dollarstorerumors.com ! That is all! THE PREZ! CHECK MY MUSIC!

This.

Thanks for asking! I wish someone would answer!

It was answered by bobringer. Dude, read the thread or learn to use google.

ur handle needs to be changed-iPad is the most satisfying 'puter experience I've ever had. I save $150 month by using an iPad instead of all things required to take credit cards in my small biz-and that is just an added bonus. Leapfrog the iPad will over all comers-the creative genius is in Cupertino and will be for many years to come.

Is that you, Yoda?

There has always been insurance fraud. The real reason the insurance company no longer will insure the iPhone is all the lub-schmucks who dropped their iPhones and broke them because of general recklessness combined with a lack of dexterity. Oh, and because it's a glass phone.

I'm familiar with the problem, though. My former insurance company raised the premium for iPhone so high that only suckers and scammers will sign up for it.

1. It has nothing to do with it being a glass phone, they stopped insuring cellphones before the iphone 4 came out.

2. And if it was cause of people dropping them, then why are they still insuring stuff like laptops?

3. I'm absolutely sure that insurance fraud has a lot to do with it. I mean statistics show that people magically break their iphones a lot right when a new one comes out. You don't think that's a little coincidental?

4. Even if it didn't, it still does not make it right to magically break your item just to get the insurance to pay for it. It's not a get a new gadget policy. It's a cover your ass if you accidentally do something.

My thought exactly. There is no such thing an insurance company stopped insuring XYZ item. They insure everything, you just have to pay for it.

No, they actually have a clause saying they will not insure cellphones now (at least under personal articles policy. Sure under renters or house whose deductable is so high that it's silly to get it for *one* item. State Farm's personal articles had no deductable).

I even tried to see if they would grandfather it in under my old iphone (they will grandfather it if I already had a policy) but since it was technically a change in phone they would not. I suppose if I was better at fudging I could have just said nothing and hoped they didn't notice it was a different phone (but they do ask for serial number when you start the policy on an item so I doubt that would work).

Probably a typo! It should be 499, 599, 699 (32,64,128). Plus, where are the other 3 sku for wifi/3G/lte/wimax (649,749,849)?

Android os are in alphabetical order! Most android stuff are either 2.1 eclair or 2.2 froyo. Next os is honeycomb for all devices! Froyo and before were for phones specifically. Gingerbread is a small upgrade that just came out past November. Froyo was a major bump and so will honeycomb! Ice-cream sandwich will be small too.
iOS 4.2 was huge and so will iOS 4.3. Apple is not going to let android one up apple! iPad 2 will destroy android tablets from even launch! This is closer to the iPod race with other music player, except Google is better than Microsoft. However, Apple is better at software and hardware! Google is great at cheating! They keep us interested in the battle between apple and google! Apple has bigger pocket and google has more employees!
