"Best Buy's inventory database is a relatively unreliable source of information on future product releases"

Then why bother making this a front page headline MaRumors?

Just more dribble, more wasted space. Further acknowledgment of your desperateness to put just about anything up there to feed the mounting frenzy.

You were once a responsible source of reliable rumors and intelligent information, what happened?

Thanks for asking! I wish someone would answer!

Stock Keeping Unit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKU

From my experience with SKUs :

Kinda like a UPC (in fact, a company I worked for made them into bar codes to make things faster) but UPCs are for finished product.

The company I worked for, an "Item" - say "Gift basket Deluxe" - would have only one item number/UPC - but that item, when ordered, would make calls against a bunch of different SKUs to see if it's in stock - one for the basket, one for the pears, one for each kind of candy/nuts/whatever. If one part runs out, the PICs can swap the sku for a different one to make sure the basket still gets made.

Only the stuff that is sold gets a UPC (unless the manufacturer gives it one itself), but every item has a SKU in a company.

RESPONSIBLE writers always incorporate disclaimers in their writing, otherwise they open themselves up to frivolous lawsuits. /end of 'Basic Writing Skills for Dummies/

Makes Sense

It makes sense that Apple would raise the price of the iPad. None of their competitors can even come close on price. The only way to buy a Droid tablet at a comparable price is subsidized with a 2 year data contract. Without a contract Droid tablets costs about 150$ - 250$ more and you get a smaller screen. Apple SHOULD raise the price. They could be making a lot more money on these things.

Even with an increased resolution (not retina display), no way does Apple increase the iPad's price (at least not on the lowest spec'd ones). With several new tablets coming out (I'm not saying that they are better), they need to be aggressive with their pricing so that current customers upgrade and new customers choose the ipad 2.

Or they could keep the entry level iPad at 499 and sell the new ones for 599+...

Verizon iPad, big WHOOP!

Why isn't anybody talking about Verizon eliminating their two year contracts for phones? I think iPhone customers are gonna be Effed with the iPhone prices!

That is not what Verizon is doing. They're eliminating their ADDITIONAL discounts for primary lines that are up for NE2.
There are still 2 year contracts.
There are still NE2 upgrades.
The only thing going away is the additional $30-$50 discount for primary lines.

Maybe the double $599 are AT&T/Verizon versions.

Also, maybe they are just getting rid of the wi-fi/3G fragmentation and they will all have built-in cell data capability.

Wow, it just got real.

Before knockoffs of 2010 iPad is out, Apple is ready with the second gen.

No...Apple may "announce" that a new iPad is coming out...that is quite different from the actual product materializing on shelves.

So sure, there have been rumors that Apple will announce sometime very soon that a new iPad will come out...with a target street date of early April but "early April" is still 3+ months away.

I have not been following what other non-Apple tablets have been announced but I'm sure they will arrive by Q2 just like the iPad 2.0.

It was overpriced at $500, but $600? Wow.

The thing cannot even properly view half of the internet (Read: flash) yet costs more than most laptops.

Save the money and buy yourself a real tablet.

Sorry but Gingerbread is going to annihilate the iPad when it comes out.

What's flash?

Uh, no. Apple has almost never announced a product update more than a couple of weeks before availability. And when they have it has been because the announcement was tied to an event, like MacWorld, where they couldn't really control the date of the announcement.

Simply put, if they announce it soon, it'll be available soon. If it's not going to be available until April, we won't see an announcement until March. At least that's my take....

But there is no Android tablet fragmentation.

Honeycomb is the 1st Android OS designed for use on tablets and that's that.

No-one is holding a gun to the head of other hardware companies telling them they are not allowed to make what they want with any OS they want. Samsung could bring out a XP, Windows7, Linux, Android for phone, etc tablet. it's up to them.

But there is only one version for tablets that's going to be out soon.

And once that one version is out, there will be numerous hardware configurations (+fragmentation) from numerous hardware manufacturers (+fragmentation) each with their own set of tweaks to get it to run correctly or optimally (+fragmentation) with whatever hardware they're using. In addition, there may be executive layers grafted on to the OS (+fragmentation) to enhance the user experience or profitability and various restrictions or changes imposed by telecoms (+fragmentation) subsidizing the hardware.

The end result is a fragmented platform.

This is why I strongly disagree when people say the Android-vs-iOS thing is going to go the same way as Mac-vs-PC. The one significant difference is that Microsoft had 100% control over the OS in a way that Google does not. There was no fragmentation in the Windows platform holding it back.

Buy more

Last time I checked, Apple Computer Inc, was no longer a company; as they changed their name to Apple Inc, a few years back. Maybe Best Buy did not get the memo. Shows how unreliable their product placement pages are, if they can't get the company right, how are we suppose to believe they have the details right.

Hey, its Best Buy. I have seen them drop TVs then put them back in stock.
I would not believe anything they have on the inventory sheet.

Apple would be stupid to raise the price $100!!! I would not be happy! :( This better not be accurate!

I believe you mean "Honeycomb"! And no, it won't! ;)

He had a Honeycomb and Gingerbread sandwich. Honeycomb can't even run on a single core. How many current Android users are aware that most will not be able to run Honeycomb on their current devices?

Honeycomb=Bloatware. Google is making Android into Vista for Smart Phones.

iOS 4.3 will make Jake LaLane look like a couch potato. :apple:

Can you give me something to read about this claim?

Uh.. why is price 599, 599 and 699?
Why do they have two different sku with same priced iPad for? BB is total stupid.

Actually, I worked there for a couple months as a seasonal in their Mobile Phones department, and I loved it! Now I see why a lot of people choose to go to Best Buy to upgrade their phones when the AT&T and Verizon stores are right down the street from them.

Folks, when is the LAST time Apple came out with a refresh version of any IPOD, IPHONE, etc.. and kept the gigs the same? They always increase from model year to model year.

they'll keep the classic model without the sd slot and camera and display, bump up to 64g and sell it for $599 and maybe include the 3g aspect.

the new models will be 32g for 599 and 128g for 699.

bank it.

I might have to get one if all the rumors are correct. With the iPad2 rumored to have two cameras, twice the pixel density, and an A8 processor who can resist buying one at that point. I know that last one feature (A8 processor) was actually rumored for the iPhone 5 but one can only hope the iPad2 gets it first.

iPad 1 16G wifi only: $399
iPad 1 16G 3G + wifi: $499

iPad 2 32G wifi only: $599
iPad 2 16G 3G + wifi: $599
iPad 2 64g 3G + wifi: $699

iPad 2 3G will be gsm/CDMA dual.

Above pricing means the 64 gig + 3G model is the best value for money, and likely to attract the most sales after the $399 model.
