Aside of the thin casing bending, the OLED will bend too. Exploring how the new tech holds up. This is the foldable insiders were talking about.

I have a feeling... if they release a larger iPad Air and an updated Magic Keyboard for it... I could use that in place of my iPad Air 4 and MacBook Air M2. I would still have a Mac mini and windows laptop... and then when Mac mini wears out Id probably stick with iPad (plus the iPad mini) and windows laptop.

I keep looking at the larger iPad Pro attached to Magic Keyboard every time I pass an Apple Store... and think I could do 90% of the stuff I need to do using that one device. It really is a nice do most stuff device and the Magic Keyboard really has been a game changer for iPad. It's really nice on my iPad Air 4 but the screen estate isn't ideal for some tasks... it's doable, but hard compared to the larger ipad Pro and MacBooks. Thats why I really was sad to see the MacBook Retinas get discontinued... they were like the combining of iPad and MacBook... it wasn't powerful, but some of us don't need powerful... it was a perfect size for someone wanting a do all portable machine.

Always good to consolidate and reduce the number of devices you have... less Apple Care and Batteries to replace... less waste.

To be honest I wish Apples focus was more on weight, and not thinness.. You can have a nice, decent size device thats easy to hold... thats light but strong. I feel they go far too far down the thin route. To be honest, My M2 MacBook Air feels far too thin... it feels borderline fragile. I liked the chunky Pros... but I had no need for them... and spending that much money just to feel it wouldn't break.

I also feel hinges on Apple devices have become super thin too... I have never had an issue... but just look at a side profile.. it's like damn. Hence Im always super super careful.

I feel like laptops from 10-15 years ago had hinges that could deal with knocks and bumps... not these.

(The hinges themselves may last longer, be better engineered.... just the thinness of the casing that they are directly attached to)

2018 12.9 inch iPad Pro just gets the job done. The picture is great as is, there is a limit to what I, or anyone, can see and we are pretty much there.

As one poster mentioned above a camera on the long axis would be a thing to want. It has never made sense to have the camera on the short axis.

My bet is the play will be that the 2018 will not run the next version of iPad OS, or at least not all of it. The upcoming versions of iPad will represent significant neural engine improvements over the 2018 model and will likely exclude the 2018 model from all, or most, of the upcoming AI features Apple is rolling out. How much value those AI features provide remains to be seen.

The 2018 models are still powerful devices... hopefully they get a few more updates (just minus those AI features)...

I said in some other posts... Im sure Apple are going to use the on device AI processing as a reason to remove certain devices from upgrade lists. Let's hope they can just keep devices that are otherwise powerful going a few more years.

I want capability of running MacOS on new iPad Pro OLED!

Before the iPad first debuted I remember the rumours saying it would be like a “MacBook touch”. The renderings pictured it as a tablet with macOSX and all the same I/O as the MacBook Pro at that time. If that had turned out to be true I would have loved that.

Never going to happen… it would cannibalise Macs. The most you will get is likely a Samsung dex like environment. Which would actually be an awesome middle ground. And make the Pro, have a Pro software feature.
Only the availability of a version of iPad OS that provides a MacOS-like DeX mode (including a universally accessible filesystem) would justify an iPad model above the base model for me.

That would really, truly be a Pro iPad. A clear and useful differentiator.
Exactly. I regularly use DeX mode on my 2022 Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (and S6 before that) for productivity tasks. It has been a game-changer for me with regard to productivity. For media consumption and leisure, revert back to tablet mode.

I don't want iPads to run Mac OS... just to have the OPTION to use them with a desktop-like experience.

My 2018 iPado 12.9” is still doing fine.

What feature would entice me to upgrade?

A centered camera? Please.

Micro leds? As if I could give AF

Running macOS? Yes!! Sign me up!!!
Mine is as well aside from the battery. It’s a shame Apple is so against replacing iPad batteries. I’m waiting on pricing to see if i will upgrade. I expect it to be laughable in Europe.

You can still take to Apple for battery replacement? still far cheaper than buying a new iPad... and would last at least 3 years depending on usage :)

I agree. My battery is pretty bad but that is it. I will wait for this new OLED model and see the price. If it is awful (almost guaranteed here in Europe) then I will keep my 2018 for another 18 months until the M4 version comes out. During that time hopefully Apple will make iPad OS actually useful as well….

It‘s near impossible. Apple run their diagnostic tool and claim it is >80% and refuse to replace it. Whereas i’ve had iPhone batteried replaced at 90% before. Loads of people are in the same boat on this forum. It’s nearer 5 hours battery instead of 10 at launch, but it is ‘fine’ according to Apple. Very frustrating.

Oh, I didn't know that... is it on Apple Care? I thought you could easily get one if the battery is in 80s percent and you tell them it just doesnt last like it used to... and then pay something like 140 euros etc?

If its only lasting half the specced runtime... then surely its less than 80% battery health

Most people would be willing to pay more for a device that would be measurably more capable.

Then they'd just be eating their own sales. They have no incentive to do that. Unless, maybe, they did a macOS iPad and kept the regular iPads as they are now.

there is no reason that a supposed "pro" device should be as neutered as the iPad pro currently is.

When will new magic keyboard, mouse and trackpad be released? USB-C and multi device connectivity would be nice. I'm waiting to pull the trigger on that.

What I would actually want is the option to use the iPadOS layout when I am just consuming media (on the couch, in the plane) or the option to use MacOS when I connect a (magic) keyboard (+mouse) to it when I am working and using it as my MB replacement. That would imho bring the best of both world.
