Will new OLED ipads have brightness like the 14" macbook pro? In our cockpit the sun makes it hard sometimes to see our charts and having an ipad that can using 1400nits brightness would be amazing. We have USB outlets so power isn't an issue. I have the vivid app on my macbook and it's been a game changer for daylight use.

Tandem stacked OLED panels have decreasing efficiency as more layers are added, but for just the 2nd layer it is supposed to still be 175% in theory, assuming a 1000 nits base then we will get 1750 nits which is already higher than the 1600 zoned peak on the current miniLED 12.9". (or close to the 1600 nits but it can be sustained on the OLED instead, according to this graph)

Good to see that both Pro models will now have similar screen technology. Waiting to see the features of the new Pencil.

i dont want or need a thicker, heavier iPad Pro. i want an iPad Air with this new keyboard.
then, its bye-bye MacBook Air.
The iPad Pro and the iPad Air are essentially the same weight and thickness. The new Pro models will be even thinner. The iPad Pro is not thicker nor heavier than the Air.

Ahhh now they all change the March prediction to April. Didn’t want to be wrong. Kinda like moving the dart board to compensate for where the darts land.
Announced Next week

Released the week after (April).

Stock, currently in transit for warehousing.

shut up - take my money 🤣

Just sent wifey € 1500 for her iPad PRO 11.1" and will order mine maxed out immediately - cant wait for 4 TB and OLED - the M3 will serve for at least 5 .. 6 years again like the 2018 model ( which I am still using with pleasure being fast responsive and still up to the tasks I am using it for )

The iPads are just insanely good and I hope we're going to see some improvements in external display options in the iPadOS

5 .. 6 years of usage for such a device are more than adequate and it doesn't stop there for backup purposes of the main device.

Looking forward to receiving mine mid April - can't wait for the OLED image quality.

I have the same model and it’s mostly fine, but the big limitation is only 3GB of RAM. I, like most people like to have a lot of safari tabs open and they constantly have to reload with only 3GB RAM. The 8 or 16GB of the M series models is a game changer.
the 2018 1 TB versions have 6 GB RAM - I'd never go for an entry level device when I plan to keep the devices longer than one or two years - the 1 TB models do just fine in 20224 as they did back in the time - just a bit on the slower side when upgrading to a new iPadOS - but that's to be expected and noticing to write home about
This is madness to not allow the owner to pay to replace a battery!

We don't want your stinkin' $100...when we can extract 10x more.
Apple never replaced the batteries but replaced the whole device instead. When you had the Apple Care and Protection plan you could have gone right before the end to a an Apple Store and got a new iPad PRO in case the battery was aging too much. the threshold is something like 80 % - I went to the store and got mine inspected and it was still above 90 % that time - still working great and lasting a whole day of work with occasional usage as a media consumption device - whenever I want real work to be done I'll grab my MBP which is way better suited for office work let alone other complicated stuff that benefits from a mouse
I don’t think this will ever come from Apple. There really is no possibility let’s just be honest. Not sure why people keep asking to have macOS on an iPad.

Also using an iPad with a capable trackpad and keyboard as a daily driver can show you that it will eventually become it’s own very powerful OS in the future.

With Extended display support, Stage Manager, some apps that I (personally) use regularly like Davinci Resolve, Logic Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, GSuite. iPadOS has a great future ahead of it. And don’t forget all other apps that already exist like banking apps or other iPad apps in general that work better opposed to a web browser because a desktop app was never created. For example: Gmail for iPad…

It’s definitely not a Mac and obviously more can be done on a Mac but it’s very capable on its own. Hopefully they release the better magic keyboard with a bigger trackpad.
Good summary and observation - I have the same sentiment and look at things. Better keyboard and trackpad and the iPad PRO will THE ultimate mobile device for situations where you only have your fingers and want to type something and/or can't dictate since you'd disturb others like in a library or in public transport.

the iPad is in it's own merit a wonderful device - canÄt understand why I'd want macOS in a touch device? When the keyboard is attached the iPad and the MAC overlap a bit but that's exactly how I perceive it as the optimum - yes - the iPad can partly replace a MAC but it will never become a MAC being designed for a different purpose.

In case i could only have one it would always be the MAC - no doubt - lucky we are to be able to have both for different use cases.

If they ever add macOS, you can bet they add Mac pricing along with it.
A 256GB 12.9" iPad Pro (WiFi only) is already more expensive than the 256GB M3 MacBook Air.

A 256GB 12.9" iPad Pro (WiFi only) + Magic Keyboard + Apple Pencil is $78 more expensive than a 14" MacBook Pro (and this is before the expected price hikes on the M3 iPad Pro).

Only the availability of a version of iPad OS that provides a MacOS-like DeX mode (including a universally accessible filesystem) would justify an iPad model above the base model for me.
Yup. The Steam Deck has shown how it can be done. Tiny touchscreen friendly UI first but I can easily switch to the underlying Linux desktop mode whenever I like.

Mr. Gurman - what is so important about the iPad Pro 17.4 "variant" that it is holding up release of these new models? Finally going to allow dual booting with MacOS for a big additional fee (think $500+ for the dual booting variant)? Or is it merely a screen burn in deterrent?

I take what it means is the update is known (by his source) to already contain relevant files for the upcoming iPads, therefore the dropping date of the update can be used to infer roughly when Apple shall ship these iPads. I vaguely remember Gurman used OS drop dates once or twice in the past and predicted accurately the shipping week of products.

It also isn't helped that frankly the ipad Pro 12.9 has garbage battery life to begin with.
I wonder why there is not an easy way to check the battery life of the iPad Pro, like there is for the iPhone. Please tell me if I'm wrong as the battery check on my iPad Pro 12.9" M1 doesn't really address battery health does it???

Nope. Its frankly idiotic that there isn't a way to do that.

Not gonna lie, I typed a law school paper up on my steam deck just for the hell of it. Its kinda funny really.

"Young reiterated that Apple plans to launch a larger 12.9-inch iPad Air as well, and it will likely be announced alongside the new iPad Pro models."

What does this mean? a barely larger iPad Pro, or maybe a 14" iPad Pro? I do understand that rumors had said the slightly narrower black bezel would bump up the screen size just slightly. What really confuses me is "along side the new iPad Pro models". I suppose the more likely scenario is a slightly a barely larger screen, and the 11" iPad Pro.

Wishful thinking on my part but a 14" iPad Pro would work well for some of us. All of this speculation (which sadly I'm a part of) has got me hallucinating! :p So forgive me please.

So I'm on a 2019 Ipad pro I believe. Is this new model going to be significantly brighter? I don't know if it's oled or where that generation sits within whatever was published here. I believe it's 600 nits.

I remember the earlier rumors stated that a larger screen was coming. I was excited about a 14" iPad Pro as I can't see A4 paper very well on the 12.9" model. OLED on a screen to be lit for a long time is a bad idea. If a 14" model doesn't come, I'll stick with my 2018 model.

What's does Samsung Securities thinks Apple is up to, note some of the things mentioned for 2024. Its still speculation but adds to what we already suspect for this year.

An Apple roadmap detailing big product announcements and feature upgrades has been produced by Samsung, and has been leaked to X/Twitter by tipster Revegnus for us all to see.
The roadmap comes from Samsung Securities, the part of the enormous South Korean conglomerate responsible for its financial services business. Therefore, as you might expect, it's in its best interests to have an idea of what the world's biggest tech company is up to. Several of these claims we've already heard about — but Samsung's analysis just adds additional weight to these rumors.
