LOL seems like the release cycle is functioning in reverse now. Just waiting for Apple to announce them.
You're not saving much, and in fact paying more for an ipad pro 12.9 with magic keyboard with equivalent specs to macbook air. So you're already paying for macos. If they ever add macOS, you can bet they add Mac pricing along with it.
The thing is, for a 12,9" iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard you can already buy a MBA with some options. If they ever add macOS, you can bet they add Mac pricing along with it.
I have ipad pro M1's in both sizes with magic keyboards and they're not replacing my macbooks anytime soon as ipadOS sucks for what I do. The built in file managment is plain trash. and don't get me started on ipad FCPX... my wife's old mba M1 8gb/256 base spec runs FCPX so much better than my loaded iPP 12.9 2TB/16 M1I have a feeling... if they release a larger iPad Air and an updated Magic Keyboard for it... I could use that in place of my iPad Air 4 and MacBook Air M2. I would still have a Mac mini and windows laptop... and then when Mac mini wears out Id probably stick with iPad (plus the iPad mini) and windows laptop.
I keep looking at the larger iPad Pro attached to Magic Keyboard every time I pass an Apple Store... and think I could do 90% of the stuff I need to do using that one device. It really is a nice do most stuff device and the Magic Keyboard really has been a game changer for iPad. It's really nice on my iPad Air 4 but the screen estate isn't ideal for some tasks... it's doable, but hard compared to the larger ipad Pro and MacBooks. Thats why I really was sad to see the MacBook Retinas get discontinued... they were like the combining of iPad and MacBook... it wasn't powerful, but some of us don't need powerful... it was a perfect size for someone wanting a do all portable machine.
Always good to consolidate and reduce the number of devices you have... less Apple Care and Batteries to replace... less waste.
No Apple care. Apple support say capacity =/= run time, so 50% battery health/capacity (whatever the call it) does not equate to 5 hours usage. It's really fked up. I don't need a mega long battery, but it would make using my iPad a bit nicer.Oh, I didn't know that... is it on Apple Care? I thought you could easily get one if the battery is in 80s percent and you tell them it just doesnt last like it used to... and then pay something like 140 euros etc?
If its only lasting half the specced runtime... then surely its less than 80% battery health
Yep. They know a lot of people bought the 2018 one (myself) and this one is the kick to get them to update (which I am anyway).2018 12.9 inch iPad Pro just gets the job done. The picture is great as is, there is a limit to what I, or anyone, can see and we are pretty much there.
As one poster mentioned above a camera on the long axis would be a thing to want. It has never made sense to have the camera on the short axis.
My bet is the play will be that the 2018 will not run the next version of iPad OS, or at least not all of it. The upcoming versions of iPad will represent significant neural engine improvements over the 2018 model and will likely exclude the 2018 model from all, or most, of the upcoming AI features Apple is rolling out. How much value those AI features provide remains to be seen.

I have the same model and it’s mostly fine, but the big limitation is only 3GB of RAM. I, like most people like to have a lot of safari tabs open and they constantly have to reload with only 3GB RAM. The 8 or 16GB of the M series models is a game changer.2018 12.9 inch iPad Pro just gets the job done. What do you mean? The battery replacement is the most affordable repair you can get, only around $100 or soMine is as well aside from the battery. It’s a shame Apple is so against replacing iPad batteries. I’m waiting on pricing to see if i will upgrade. I expect it to be laughable in Europe.
If you take your iPad in, Apple will run a test and 99% of the time it comes back saying it has >80% battery life and they refuse to replace it. Even if your iPad only lasts 2 hours instead of the original 10. There are several large threads on the issue in this forum. Anyone who says otherwise has clearly never tried getting an iPad battery replaced. What do you mean? The battery replacement is the most affordable repair you can get, only around $100 or so
It also isn't helped that frankly the ipad Pro 12.9 has garbage battery life to begin with.If you take your iPad in, Apple will run a test and 99% of the time it comes back saying it has >80% battery life and they refuse to replace it. and if they aren't?New iPads will be announced this week and ship 1st week of April.
An iPad Pro is not significantly cheaper than a MacBook Air. What you would get would be a touch screen, pencil support, FaceID, and a tablet form factor when you want it.I don’t get the point of wanting macOS on the iPad format. Are you guys just looking for a cheaper option?
Ross Young's rumors tend to be more accurate than most others because he is basing this on what the supply chain (mostly for screens) is saying. What he can't predict are the final decisions that Apple makes about which way to go. If Apple has gone through an extensive prototyping and tentative production talks with suppliers before deciding to stop a project, that change can be abrupt.Keep in mind that this is the same Ross Young who incorrectly predicted a Mini-LED iMac Pro on March 9, 2022.

your focus on hinges is indeed, key....
I also feel hinges on Apple devices have become super thin too... I have never had an issue... but just look at a side profile.. it's like damn. Hence Im always super super careful. ...
Yeah, apples hinges are so great, they damaged display cables on the 4th gen MacBook pros.your focus on hinges is indeed, key.
apple has always had great hinge technology.
and, in order to make the new keyboard and "laptop-like" design of the new iPad Pros, hinges will be the key.
my only disappointment is that there is no rumor linking this new laptop design / keyboard with the new iPad Airs.
i dont want or need a thicker, heavier iPad Pro. i want an iPad Air with this new keyboard.
then, its bye-bye MacBook Air.

Yes, I don’t trust the algorithm that Apple uses. I have several older iPads that have bad battery life compared to when they’re new and coconutbattery says their battery life is in the 70% which is due for a replacement. Apples diagnostics software always says they’re good. 😡If you take your iPad in, Apple will run a test and 99% of the time it comes back saying it has >80% battery life and they refuse to replace it. Apple will act like Apple forever and ever....This is madness to not allow the owner to pay to replace a battery!
We don't want your stinkin' $100...when we can extract 10x more.
