As long as they make use of the extra volume behind that larger screen to improve the battery life. You can't really call it a mobile phone if it doesn't even last a day before running flat.

And yes I understand there are tricks to improve battery life like turning off notifications, don't use this don't use that etc. But that defeats the point of having a smartphone if you are only limited to calls and texts.

Fingers crossed anyways!:)

Finally, a comment that makes total sense. I love big screen devices (Note 3 owner) but I still understand that people want small screens (like my wife). Why is it hard for people to grasp the concept of multiple sizes?
Will a large screen iPhone cause me to switch? Probably not because I love Android and more choices in features across multiple OEM's (I strongly doubt that Apple would bring sd cards, removable batteries, water resistance and my favorite; the IR blaster to the iPhone). But I still want Apple to succeed . Competition will give us better devices all around.

Glass backs look good on paper but over the years I've heard less complaints with the iPhone 5/5s. Some happened when Google had the glass backed Nexus 4. I hear no complaints with the Nexus 5.

I will be getting the iPhone 6 as my next upgrade but am using my iPhone 4 everyday running IOS 7.1. It still looks as good as the day I took it out of the box in pristine condition, not a scratch on it I doubt iPhone 5 users can say the same.

In the renderings, the 4.7" really doesn't look much bigger than the 4". The 5.5" looks huge though.

My thoughts exactly, the middle one looks quite manageable but the 5.5 looks immense!

If Steve got on stage today and said the 3.5" screen was the perfect size, people would laugh in his face. 3.5" was the perfect size in 2007, not in 2014. All of your complaining is for nothing, we all know you will go and get a 4.7"(or bigger) phone, like it, learn to love it, and then go and find something else to whine about. Can we just jump to the last part? Do a lot of apple users wear skinny jeans? I have put a galaxy note in my pocked with no issues. I wear dockers, you don't need a fanny pack or man purse to carry something even that size.

Apple should have been the first to market with a bigger screen phone, not because it's innovative, it's not; it just makes sense. All of you people who are crying about a phone being to big need to go have a pity party with the people who are upset that the chick wheel iPod will go away one day. Adapt or die is equally important to companies and it is to a species.

They should also make a 50 gram iphone nano that has a 2.5-3" screen for people like me who want the phone as small and light as possible. Able to do web in a pinch, but even a 5.5" phone is puny compared to an ipad, which is what i'll have if I want a bigger screen.

all these recent renderings? -> never ending story of uglyness!

what would be the point in minimizing the bezels around the screen but increasing the thikness of the whole phone by doing these rounded edges?

i believe it's very unlikely the final version will look like this.

OMG, completely different!

 Will it sell with a remote!? I hope is Apple TV compatible! Is like a huge portable TV!

"The case rendered to compliment the phone..."

A case that says nice things about the phone would be pretty cool.

Not that I would have a problem with that at all, but no, that's not what I'm saying. The size of a laptop isn't that much of an issue since almost everyone carries them in a bag already. Have you ever picked up a S4? Are you really telling me that you are struggling to get it in your pocked? I don't see a bunch of guys walking around with man bags because of their phones; nor have I seen any bundling of products, offering a free purse with the signing of a new cell contract. So clearly the phone isn't that damn big. This must be an online trolling issue, I've never heard anyone complain about the size of their 4.5-4.7" inch android based phones in person.

I work in technology and I have heard all the use cases and all the complaints. It always comes down to personal preference. Those like me prefer a phone sized to work with one hand and a seperate tablet for more intensive activity. Others are willing to sacrifice some functionality and the one handed ease of use in order to have only one device. I think what is important is to have a range of options to satisfy the different use cases.

For the one handed phone users, keeping a form factor similar to the 5s would be smart (I don't see any reason to go smaller, but there is probably someone out there that can provide some unique requirement). You could increase screen size without increasing the form factor some, but at some point you do need to change the size of the device. The question becomes at what point is the phone and the iPad mini too close in size. I am an advocate of sticking the phone app in the mini and addressing those that want the phablet - a hideous thought to me, but it really cost nothing to stick the app in there and apple could charge more, so why not. Looking at the leaked pictures and the renderings, the 4.7 looks like it might still be usable for the 1 handers. The 5.5 is clearly a two hander device. Anything larger to me at least is the iPad mini.

I think we all need to relax and realize that apple needs to have multiple form factors to address the various use cases. I cannot imagine that apple will abandon what it has stated as the better ergonomics of a 1 handed device. But it should not ignore those that are willing to compromise. After all some folks will not spend to have several devices (as a purist even the iPad mini makes no sense to me). Let apple do what it will, I am sure they will find a way to make it beautiful and useful.

All I ask is that they keep a 1 handed device out ther for folks like me.

"Apple is also reportedly negotiating with carriers to increase the price of the iPhone 6 by $100."

Has anyone considered the possibility that this rumored price increase might apply only to the larger version, not the 4" version?

I'm all for the bigger, thinner, lighter iPhone but that is not a very appealing looking device.

Many may consider the iPhone 4 & 5 form factor outdated but it has an elegance that these new devices sadly lack.

I would never, ever consider an Android device but I will be disappointed if the iPhone 6 looks anything like the renderings depicted here.

Steve also said 10 inches was the minimal screen size for a tablet.
Steve also said no one would want to watch video on their iPod
Steve also said no one would store music on their phones
Steve also didnt want the iPod to be PC-Compatible
Steve also thought that web apps for the iPhone would be a "sweet solution"

The list goes on and on. There ist always a right solution for a certain time. But time changes. They might have made the iPhone Classic screen bigger if it were possible at that time without vastly increasing the thickness of the phone and decreasing the battery life. But at that time 3.5" were the best solution.

I hope they don't move the power button to the side of the phone. Been playing with friends LG phone and some other android kind and I find it hard to not place my index finger on the power button when holding the device causing me to press it and turning off the screen when I'm actually using it.

Especially with the sleep/awake button on the side. If you really need to do such a big phones please make the small one too - 3.5' is perfect size! Looks like I am going to stay with 4s forever :(
Who are you, Tyrion Lannister?!

Joffrey had it coming, btw. :p

So the front of this phone looks different than the leaked panel we saw. What's the point of posting renders that don't appear to be based in reality?

----------

This rendering does not match with the recent front panel we've seen earlier this week.

I'm amazed this guy gets so much attention. Have any of his concept renders ever been close to reality?

I agree with you that Apple will never do sd cards, removable batteries (and hopefully this one it never does) but water resistance? What makes you think it won't? And what do you do with this IR blaster to be your favorite feature? Please don't tell me all it does is remote control functions!

In order to be water resistant (I mean Samsung S5 ip67 resistant) Apple would have to add a ugly cover to the lighting port which is against Apple's style. Plus without the cover people will think it's OK to charge the phone while taking a shower. I would be "shocked" if Apple does this.

And don't underestimate the IR blaster. I bought a universal remote app (smart remote) that is fully customizable and works with every IR device in my house. No more hunting for remotes. I can program all my most used commands for multiple devices on one page. Much cheaper than buying a logitech harmony remote which is expensive and normally not moved from room to room. I use the IR blaster on a daily basis. HTC, Samsung and LG was smart in bringing this feature back from the Palm days.

https://play.google.com/store/search?q=smart remote&c=apps

And before you say Bluetooth please keep in mind that the majority of electronic consumer devices still use IR for control. Plus you need a app for each manufacture and sometimes those apps are crap. Overloaded with commands you may never use.

Of all the renderings that have been made so far, they're all showing the slate color phone. I hope Apple hasn't already decided to drop the gold color option. My iPhone 5 was working fine for me, so I opted to skip the 5s and wait for the 6. If it turns out they aren't going to offer gold anymore, that would suck. Don't get me wrong, I'll still get the 6, I'll just be disappointed it's not gold.

Dude, spoilers!! Some of us are a week behind ... that us doesn’t include me, but still (and yeah, totally agree) :D

Well, it is interesting to see a design study with a reduced top section (vs. symmetrical top-to-bottom). I still contend Apple/JI won’t design something that loses its “balance" in landscape orientation, but kind of a fun “what if” rendering. :)

Not sure why the $100 price increase is a big deal. It is likely for the 5.5"

I think you're right in a lot of ways, but wrong in two specific ways. It does come down to preference. For those that want a smaller form factor I hope Apple keeps the 4" phone (I think they will). Multiple sizes makes sense because we all have differing opinions on what's best for us.

Where I think you're wrong.
"Others are willing to sacrifice some functionality and the one handed ease of use in order to have only one device. "
There is no sacrifice in functionality when using a larger phone. One handed use is no easier than two handed use. Are there instances where one haded use is more convenient? Yes. But there are just as many instances where two handed use is more convenient as well. As you admit yourself, 4.7" does not preclude one handed use.

"I am an advocate of sticking the phone app in the mini and addressing those that want the phablet."

I know it's not your word, but I think phablet is stupid (IMO). Regardless of that, 5.5" phone is a long, long, long way away from an 8" tablet. A phone app in the mini in no way addresses someone's desire for a larger phone. It's an extreme edge case argument meant to exaggerate someone elses displeasure for a larger phone.

I hope we both can agree Apple is in a pretty good position. They can continue to offer the 4" factor while possibly gaining new customers with a larger phone. Win/Win. Apple has gotten some of my tablet money (iPad - also have Nexus 7) and some of my laptop money (MBA). With a larger phone, they could be a choice for my phone money. Without a larger phone, the status quo will remain.
