Do you think before you post? For starters, Newson has high praise for Ive and his work. If you claim Newson knows how to design, then how do you reconcile that with his praise for Ive?

News flash, Marc Newson started working for Apple back in 2014.
To add... Newson designed the Apple watch which is rather a beautiful design...

The solution for you and all the others is simple: don't buy the next iPhone.

But in order to really make an impact, make sure to tell EVERYONE you didn't buy an iPhone. And make sure to have your excuses lined up when Apple sells a gazillion of them and reviewers give it the highest rating for any smartphone. You'll have to find a reason to explain why they sold so well despite your proclamations it's a horrible design.
Rest assured, I won't if it doesn't meet my requirements. Apart from that: It's not that simple... People who own Apple stuff have usually put lots of money into the ecosystem, namely Apps, but maybe also other Apple propreitary equipment. That said, naturally, they won't opt-out due to minor issues like protruding cams. So far, basically no one likes protruding cameras and more or less complained about it, but we can deal with it. However, this list of "inconvenient" things is getting longer at Apple devices. The Macbook is the best example here. Apple killed all IO ports, but one and didn't even bother putting an USB-Hub in the charger, which would have at least mitigated the problem a little bit. Bad enough they killed MagSafe on this device. (And yes, that would have been possible even on macbook that slim.) If the iPhone happens to share the same destiny people will still buy the iPhone 7, no doubt there, but eventually they will get annoyed by it lacking a normal headphone jack, QuickCharge, wireless charging and so on. And if they are annoyed enough, they will eventually leave for a Samsung S8/S9. In Europe iOS marketshare already dropped below 20% thanks to Samsung S6/S7. I don't think Apple can afford to actually remove prominent features from the iPhone -and the 3,5mm jack is such a feauture. If they do, it will certainly not help them regain marketshare...

Hey Eric why don't you take your sad old retoric back to AppleInsider where someone might give a sh*t?

Why don't you counter my argument instead of resorting to swearing?
[doublepost=1468797050][/doublepost]
And another fan boy emerges....which iPhone did Newson design? He might respect Ives but he is helluva better designer.

If you have to resort to using "fanboy" it means you've already lost the argument.

Of course Newson didn't design any current iPhone. But he's been there long enough to have input on the iPhone 7. Unless you have proof he didn't, or was overruled by Ive.

Ima skip this version.

Nothing worth upgrading for truth be told. I'm sure iOS10 will run on my iP6.

The 6 / 6s design is good, but you can't deny that it's stale. People don't want to buy a two year-old design for the "new" phone. They want something shiny and new. SJ understood this, why doesn't Tim Cook? Maybe they completely blew the new design and had to change plans, or maybe management was planning this all along, we'll probably know someday.

What I do know for sure is that this will cost Apple billions. Their customers expect a real new design every two years, and they won't deliver.

It's iPhone 6s vs Galaxy s7 or iOS vs android. Cheap android handsets are responsible for android market share; of which only Google is the winner.

Who said the 6s design is stale? Any surveys indicating that, or is that an opinion? I'm all up for the iPhone 7. The iPhone 6s was a beast and the iPhone 7 rides in those coat tales it will be a best seller, IMO.

It's two years old, genius. It's stale. You can think it's the best design ever, that's fine. I won't disagree. You can't deny that it's stale.

People want something new. Look at the relative sales numbers, 5 vs 5s, 6 vs 6s. New sells.

When you resort to ad-hominem attacks you already lost the battle.

So it's your opinion, got it. Seems like the 6s was a best seller.

No headphone jack? Apple is innovating the same way.

Well to be fair that device just came out so it isn't like you can claim Apple copied it. That is assuming the next iPhone doesn't take 10-12 months to get released.
[doublepost=1468800325][/doublepost]I don't know if this was mentioned but I am sure on the reason Apple went this route was cost and speed. It is a lot easier to stamp/form it then it is to make a metal ring and then fit it to the case.

How can this possibly be from the same company that made the beautiful iPhone 4? When the 4 came out, SJ compared it to a Leika camera, what are they going to compare this to?

The 4 is still one of the best looking phones ever made, IMO.

Am I the only one who actually really likes the iPhone 6/6S design? It looks much more luxurious than the previous iPhones. I do agree, though, that removing the headphone jack is not a good idea.

Not luxurious, but... futuristic. The antenna lines remind me of welding joints on spaceships or aircraft when seen from afar. The space-grey model certainly gives that impression. The tapered edges are very elegant and functional, whereas the iPhone 4 has very sharp corners and a layered look. I believe Apple could have easily made the iPhone without any visible lines, just as they did with the iPhone 5. The reason why they did not is probably because visible imperfections are a sign of beauty too. The iPhone 6 would have had a much more boring aesthetic otherwise.

So Apple's designers spent 2 years designing that?

Seriously, Apple.... You've lost your magic.
Not quite -- they spent years designing the *next* iPhone. After all this time, how is that you *still* don't understand the way designs things such that way iteration sets up for future designs; normally, all coming full circle in some sort of major design change.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 8 will present a major design change: an extremely thin design with an embedded 3D/force touch home button and Touch ID embedded within the new curved, OLED glass display. Possibly the front face in its entirety being a large touch screen, with the speakers and other components on the face being embedded under the screen as well. This may as well even imply force-touch sensitive volume controls and wake buttons along the side.
The chassis may also finally be made of liquid metal, which will bolster the durability of the phone.
Basically, a completely physical-button free design in a thinner and stronger casing. That is a huge step forward, as that means less hardware that could break.

The iPhone 7 is introducing these concept by removing the headphone jack and proving that can offer more with less. This phone will be successful, but it is, largely, the stepping stone between the 6S and the 8. With such major design changes rumored for the 2017 phone, a "tick-tock-tock" cycle is justified.
If these rumors pan out, you will see the Apple Magic return next year in a big way. Innovation takes time, and Apple, unlike other companies, does not like to rush things out to make a buck.

I do wonder if some of this is "controlled leaks" to prepare people for both, the lack of a headphone jack and the fact the new iPhone will be another iPhone 6, in terms of form.

Sssshhh....

I guess we shouldn't worry about Apple removing features, but still charging the same price.
They have their reasons and we should just trust them:

Apple must be regretting the decision to go thinner at the expense of a clean looking phone. Never did that protruding camera protrude so far. Awful. No upgrade.

I also like the 4, but the "s" model. Imo, it was the best looking, and best feeling iPhone.

I went from the original iPhone, to the 4s, 5s, and now 6s Plus which I really dislike. The 4s has always been my favorite design.
