the Black & Slate iPhone 5 = best looking iPhone to date

Nope, more like the black iPhone 4, although I am rather fond of my iPhone 6 S too :)

Aside from the fact that it's a rectangle, I don't see it.

The design language for the iPhone since the 6 have barely changed. I do expect to see a different design from these pictures in the fall. But, the pictured dummy phones are almost exactly the same minus bezels fingerprint scanner on the back and moving the camera from horizontal to vertical as the 7+, 6s+, 6+ models.

I really hope Apple drives this one out of the park. I'm running out of arguments to tell Galaxy users as to why iPhone is better other than, "it runs iOS."

Phone with out bezels is the most innovative feature that Samsung GS8 has, people love it, whats wrong with Finger Print sensor on the back ?
Sarcasm.

Checkout the Mi Miix that the company Xiao Mi released last year. It no only fully removed bezels on the left and right, but also on the top.

The one in the video looks pretty nice as long as the stainless steel on the sides is black. Seems like a pretty good progression to me. I don't really know what people are expecting at this point.
That Benjamin guy said a while back the the stainless steel frame will be Space Black like the Apple Watch, which would look good and help the feel of a continuous curve.

Pretty nice looking phone even better without that ugly fingerprint sensor on the back.

What a design holocaust. They need to do something about the earpiece. I'd move it to the very top of the device. That makes more sense. That camera is ugly too. Very ugly. Ugly. Ugly. Ugly. First of all, one camera is better looking than two, so I'd put in only one camera and second of all is that stupid ugly camera hump. God, it's so, so, so ugly. Apple needs to use one camera and make it flat but make the quality better. I'd also get rid of the antenna lines and use fairy dust to just make it work. The overall geometry of the device seems to continue with the iPhone 6 design, providing a continuous and uninterrupted look and feel, as if it's one single piece. I think that's ugly. I don't like that it looks organic and uniform. And Touch ID on the back, beneath the Apple logo? Dumb. Samsung truly are design masters. They are artists much like Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, and Master Splinter.

Samsung has done a good job with the Galaxy line. Especially this year with the S8. I am looking forward to seeing what the Note 8 brings us later this year and in terms of comparison to the rumored 5.8 OLED iPhone.

So If the $1000 price tag rumors are true, Apple is basically charging us $300 more to put TouchID on the back...

Camera hump "ugliness" is not a design problem. It's a physics problem. A camera module needs to be a certain thickness to work well. The problem with the hump is that a decision was made for "thinner" even if that meant protruding camera. It will only get worse as "thinner" continues to dominate "the future" thinking. OR, the camera will have to follow the lead set by the headphone jack and be jettisoned out to an add-on item sold separately. That way, Apple can sell the camera-less phone for the full price (& profit) and get the added revenue for a case(s) that re-incorporates the camera functionality. The usual crowd will spin "need a case anyway" and Apple can up the average revenue-per-iPhone buyer while getting the big reveal spin of "thinnest iPhone ever."

While it may seem like an impossibility, I find myself wondering how long until the camera AND battery get ejected out to a case (sold separately). It seems inevitable as both are primary obstacles to "thinner" and "wart-less" design objectives. Laugh if you will but how else do they get "thinner" in future models without a seemingly ever-growing wart?

Worst looking iPhone to date. Really hope this isn't true. And if it is, why the hell wouldnt they just use the Apple logo as the Touch ID. Doesn't make sense and just proves Apple aren't what they used to be.

Those parts you hide with the inevitable bumpercase? It looks beautiful, but also looks extremely fragile... unless gorilla glass finally live up to its promise, then I am all in :)

Relax everybody, there's no way that they'd put TouchID on the back. They leak those false prototypes so that everyone is stunned at the official presentation, so people will say yeap, that's worth +1000$. Strategy (at least so I hope).

If you look back to just a few weeks before the release of IPhone 6, you may remember many people on here said that the plus version leaks are fake and not like Apple at all. Given that most leaks show Touch ID on the back and Samsung have not yet been able to introduce finger print sensor on screen, I'm confident Touch ID will be located on the back of the IPhone.

With multiple prototypes in testing, the actual design of the iPhone 8 will remain unconfirmed and up in the air until we start to see legitimate part leaks. In past years, part leaks have started earlier than May, and their absence may suggest that Apple still has not settled on a finalized design.

I quibble this. At this point, they will have definitely settled on a final design and it's in some early stage of mass production.

I love my Galaxy S8+ and I have actually come to prefer the touch ID being on the back. Even next to the camera, it's not been a problem. The camera lens has an excellent oleophobic coating that has kept fingerprints off.

I don't have any plans to get this new iPhone but I think it's going to be interesting and better in some respects than my S8+ because Apple apparently has the good sense to go with a flat display. I do hope to get the "S" version with all of the bugs and first iteration wonkiness worked out of it.

The corner radius's and overall curvature seems like will never change, not even one tiny bit. After seeing recent talk of the new iPad's having a much thinner bezel and now seen these leaks of what the new 8 could possibly look like its very clear that Apple will remain stuck on bezels. I think they have a misconception of bezels overall, its not how much more thinner you can make it but rather the fact of not having it at all and making something edge less that people would prefer. I mean heck there is huge 70+ inch TV's that are near bezel less with that the display spans from edge to edge and Apple can't even do such a thing with a small device?

Guess at the end of the day Samsung and the S8 still has Apple beat innovation wise. But I'm sure Apple will pull out more hash numbers from their rear and talk about how the new 8 has increased the number of iphone users in just a few months, and how Apple is out selling and producing tech that people actually want compared to what the other tech companies have to offer, etc etc.

Benjamin Geskin also said in this video comments blew: Please keep in mind, that this is not a real working phone or prototype. This is dummy model from China, made based on iPhone 8 schematics.

OMG @ the Touch ID on the back! Pleaseeeeee don't do it, Apple! It looks sooooo out of place, like it was just slapped on there at the last minute.

Uhm, the S8 still has bezels on the top and bottom. It's definitely not edge to edge.

Nobody wants an iPhone that you have to pick up each and every time you want to unlock the screen. Surely Apple has done millions of usability tests and knows how often people set their phone on a table and occasionally click the home button to check something. You can't do that when the button is on the back.

Samsung GS8 is the best smartphone ever made, and you don't like it ? Bezel less phone is all people want, they don't care if the Finger Print sensor is on the back or the Retina scan can be tricked to unlock the phone using a photo.
On behalf of the entire human race, thank you for speaking up for us all.
