In the newest ad, when then iPhone is tipped on its side to show a landscape browser, it looks 'compressed' from the top... and longer and definitely more than 16:9/10

Anyone else notice this? It looks stupid when you compare it to the portrait version of the phone in the guy's hand.

I believe that the ad currently shown on MacRumors' home page had some problem encoding. The ad itself, I believe, is squished. If you go back to page one or two, the first version of the ad posted on YouTube appears to have the right dimensions.

Preferences...

The call button was on the right, the hangup on the left in this video.

Hopefully it is customizable like mouse buttons. Being left handed - I would always want it on the right (the call button) - just an easier reach for my thumb that way. Though I'm more likely to 'ignore' calls... (passive aggressive - besides - how else am I gonna get to play with visual voice mail..)

I think you are correct. Plus it was probably run 'squished' a bit to compensate for all the other noise on the screen. Plus - IIRC - one of these was encoded for :apple: TV playback at 720x480 probably causing it to stretch a bit... (though I thought that encoding just left side bars on both edges..)

Sorry about that, chief...

Yes, the first post of the commercial was pretty bad. I got better with the 2nd and 3rd. Roughly 10MB and 50MB uploads. I was just a bit anxious to get the video up so everyone could see it.

Apple still hasn't posted it to their website yet, so check out the versions on the BOTTOM OF PAGE 2, and the BOTTOM OF PAGE 3 of this thread. They are higher quality.

I'm glad to see more commercials and Apple doing them up right this time. The iPhone won't be here soon enough!

I agree......then maybe we can get back to some computer related stuff.
What with the underwhelming MBP upgrade, the delay in Leopard, no new iMac and the possible death of the Mini...oh and no new displays or '07 Apple software.... I am becoming increasingly irritated by all this phone stuff.
And before I get nailed too much, I am an Apple shareholder and as such pleased about the added revenue the phone will bring.
I'm just alarmed about the shift in resources that has occured due to the phone with the possible damage to Apple's core business. That's if you believe that Apple is still a computer company:rolleyes:
Flame on!!!!!

I think your claims are justified, but I disagree with you about the mbps...those were some nice updates.

Question ....if you load a web page that has fields to type in, can you overlay the virtual keyboard on top of the web page?

I for one completely agree with you! I was wanting Iwork06 last nov but knowing about this history of getting new apps on macworld I waited.... well i'm still waiting, and I was forced to get ilife06 (i wanted iweb) and now in a few months (hopefully?) they will put out ilife/iwork 07 and my money will be wasted....

and before I get replies saying, "don't read rumors, just buy when you want to buy" I did that with my first mac... my G4 powerbook... then one month later at macworld the first intel macbook pro was released...

The iphone looks cool and when It comes to canada I will probably buy one... but its just why does every other apple product need to take the backseat for this thing? I mean... who forced steve to demo the phone in janurary anyway? Couldn't he have waited until 3 months before it was able to be released or a month and a half? he could have waited until the phone was completely on track before announcing it... that way if it came in september 07 no one would have noticed, and leopard could have been released on schedule.

Sorry... i'm just bitter... parhaps next monday's keynote will make everything better.

Apple's rep is indeed the very thing I'm fearing for. And sure they may have put in a lot of effort in this whole iPhone thing but, in the end it's still the consumer that decides. If sales are too low it bombs. Even if it's a great product. And the price point doesn't help.

But I'm being cautious with my claims and ideas. We don't know all the details yet. And may very well become a huge hit. I really hope that it does.

EVERYBODY I know has been talking about the iPhone. My Dad, my Mom, my friends, even my landlord. He was here checking the smoke detectors today and was like, "Hey, do you know if the iPhone is a world phone? I'm going to get it and I want to know if it's going to work overseas." He's the most un-hip (but really nice) guy I know. And he is going to get an iPhone.

It's going to be a smash hit. A SMASH, I say!

Underwhelming MBP update? What, exactly, were you expecting? Apple delivered on everything the forums were buzzing about save a case re-design. Santa Rosa, faster CPU, much improved GPU and LED backlit displays. And the case is still one of the most beautiful works of industrial design on the planet, IMO.

As Marshie would say:

"WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT?!"

All of this is cool but...

Does anyone know when the new apple cinema displays are supposed to be coming out? I really want a new one with LED background.

Didn't read the whole thread so I apologize in advance if already mentioned...

I saw how the NYT page was chached so we didn't have to watch it download for three minutes over EDGE.

Grrr.

I think your claims are justified, but I disagree with you about the mbps...those were some nice updates.

Yeh I guess they were OK especially for older Powerbook and MBP owners. I was personally hoping for a new form factor after 4 years...although admittedly it is still better than anything else out there.
Still, I think that Apple are letting things like being the most innovative computer company take a back seat to the phone and iTunes end of the business. :(

That looks really good. Shame the iPhones 8gb limit puts me entirely off it :(

OK underwhelming might be extreme but if you look at the specs only, not the new names, you will see that it is not that big of a deal. Even Apple are not making comparisons to the last MBPC2D on their web site. They have to use the original MBP to show any significant gains in performance. The names don't mean squat to me when I'm working. (I use a 17" so the LED is mute at least for now.) And while I recognize the case as being the nicest out there, perfect it sure is not. The amazing thing about Apple has always been that when you think they have made the perfect machine along comes something that takes the whole industry to a new place. Ironically they are doing that with the phone and iTunes but at the expense of the computer and software side of things I believe.

Underwhelming???? Man, what do you want?
The Leopard delay isn't that bad, it is only 4 months. The displays as they are are perfect, let me now if you see something better.

And Apple isn't forgetting about the Mac .Just one year and a half ago Apple made the transition to Intel and put into market the MB, one of the best consumer portables out there.
It is just that Apple is not ONLY a computer company, it has the iPod, which is the reason the Mac has have better sells. The iPhone is a good move from Apple to increase their market share and make the Mac even more popular.

You aren't forced to buy iLife 07. Now with a bigger Mac community you can start expecting longer time between updates, which is totally understandable.

and before I get replies saying, "don't read rumors, just buy when you want to buy" I did that with my first mac... my G4 powerbook... then one month later at macworld the first intel macbook pro was released...

What are you asking for? I don't understand, do you want Apple to send an e-mail saying: "Please don't buy in the next few weeks, because in the next
month we are going to update the PowerBook, so please, don't buy right now". Apple is a business that is seeking to gain money, and they are good at it.

Again, don't you think the new MBP is enough? The MB was also updated recently. Don't expect that Apple is going to release updates every two months, they need time.
Steve made a demo of the iPhone to create marketing and interest in it. All the people talked for a few weeks about the iPhone saying how great it is. It has already gained the place of "awesome phone" in the minds of all the people.

And the iPhone is just a best business move than Leopard. Apple is trying to make money, not to make the "few-MacRumor's-never-satisfied-society" happy. Most of the Mac owners couldn't care less about Leopard being delayed 4 months.

Sorry... i'm just bitter... parhaps next monday's keynote will make everything better.

Ironically they are doing that with the phone and iTunes but at the expense of the computer and software side of things I believe.

They changed to Intel, builded Tiger again for Intel, made the MB (an awesome design), have been updating their laptops and desktops with the newest chips (not the exact time they are out, but nor late), they released the new Mac Pros with 8-cores, the displays got the iSight incorporated. All these in 1 years and a half. you can't expect much more from a company that have been growing so fast. They market share in the laptop and desktop area has been growing a lot, and they need to keep up with the production. It is not that easy.

Maybe Dell has been keeping up faster with the new chips and all, but you cannot even compare the design of those with the Macs.
The problem is that we sometimes ask for too much, and we are always angry when Apple does not release the all new orange MB with the best graphic card, Santa Rosa 2.4 Ghz, 6GB of RAM, 200GB 7200 rpm HD, LED display at $1,500.:)

4 months is not bad but it not good especially when it is due to the lack of infrastructure required to take into account the iPhone.
But you miss my point.....

You miss my point with regard the MBP upgrade as I have posted earlier. They are not significant in the old Apple way of upgrades. Otherwise why do they not compare the specs to my MBP C2D?

I don't have time to list the many competing and very capable displays available today all I will say is that the 4 year old Apple design is just that...4 years old. The old Apple would not stagnate that way. There would be innovation as well as quality and style...which I do not deny exists with these old displays. Hell my 2 old plexi Apple Displays are still masterpieces in every way.

Actually I just read your post again I see how you in fact agree and support my basic statement that Apple are diversifying and (in so doing) holding back on certain innovations and improvements. And all for the big bucks ;)

And as a member of the "few-MacRumor's-never-satisfied-society" I'd like to say............aloha:D

They want Jobs to make a "special event". Been awhile since we've had one of those.

I was not aware of the Apple Displays having iSight?

One of my major bitches with the new less computer Apple :(
