Yeah, I think I will definitely buy the new iPad model coming out soon! I haven't bought the iPad because it is crippled: no video camera, no retina display, slow A4 processor, overheating, etc, etc.

The retina display is never gonna happen. Well, not for a couple of revisions. Why? Because the retina has a 4X higher pixel density than the current iPad's display. At 1024X768, a retina iPad will mean a staggering 2048X1536 pixels for the processor to work. Even desktop graphics cards have difficulty working with 2D at that resolution, not to mention 3D. The cost will also be much higher than the current cost of the iPad's IPS display. I also don't think that Apple will want to give developers ANOTHER display size to work with, original iPhone/3G/3GS and iPhone 4 and iPad is quite enough.

I think its a GSM version for T-mobile and a possible CDMA for Verizon, giving the iphone 3 carries for 2011.

Apple plans to launch faster, more powerful computers in 2011. Our source is said to be very intimate with Apple's product engineering team. "This is definitely going to be a major release, in which one or more products will be upgraded". We'll believe it when we see it. -MacRumors

You are missing something. The aforementioned new computers will be the most powerful Macs ever released!! :)

iPhone 1,1 = original
iPhone 1,2 = 3G
iPhone 2,1 = 3GS
iPhone 3,1 = iPhone 4

3,2 and 3,3 mean that the upgrades won't be significant in terms of hardware speed/RAM. It's very likely just the fixed GSM version and the CDMA version.

Also, iProd 2,1 (as opposed to 1,2) means we can likely expect the next iPad revision to have substantial revisions beyond just the addition of a camera - likely a faster processor and additional RAM.

Oddly enough, the Fandroids cheer every time a new Android device is announced. "I'm soooo gonna get this!" Of course they said that about the device that was released 2 weeks previous, and the device released one month previous to that...

I hope Apple sticks to its regular cycle in this case. I banked my buyer's remorse on it.

Absolutely. This thing far surpasses my expectations. The "big iPod touch" argument seems to hold little water once you start using it, as it's mainly the software (combined with the huge display) that makes this thing so phenomenal. The thoughtful design and polish on some of these apps really shine - which is a serious shortcoming on the Android side of things. Sure, we'll see Android tablets with "ZOMG USB CONNECTOR AND MEMORY CARD SLOT!" in the very near future, but are they going to have any iPad-caliber software? No.

I love the iPad version of Reeder. Ditto for Evernote. Intro to Math for the kids is a joy. And Osmos HD is an amazing game experience. I can't wait to see more high-caliber software come out for this thing. (Not a huge fan of paying double the prices of iPhone apps, though I do recognize that iPhone app pricing has been lowered to an unsustainable level for all but the highest-volume apps.)

iPad = best portable Internet browsing device ever.

That one quote sums up 90% of the Android community.

What is this obsession with ppl wanting a camera (not to be confused with a webcam) on the iPad? Who in their right mind would use a big ol' iPad to take pictures??

Augmented reality? Occasional photos of things?

But yeah, most people want front-cams but I'm not gonna start complaining if a rear camera exist aswell ...

Verizon and China Telecom?

The two iPhones might be a CDMA version for Verizon and a slightly modified CDMA version (with no Wi-Fi or some other hardware difference) for China Telecom.

Verizon has over 90 million subscribers, and China Telecom has nearly 75 million. So that's a pretty big incentive for Apple to release a CDMA iPhone. Two extra benefits are: 1. iPhone on Verizon would badly hurt Fragdroid sales, and 2. CDMA will be obsolete in 2 years when the full all-IP all-packet-switched 4G is rolled out in enough areas, which will entice many CDMA iPhone users to upgrade.

I really want an iPad 2.0 with a camera and more RAM for it to be a little more 'future proof' (considering that the iPhone has already twice as much.
But i'm doubtful. As it's been said, they still don't finish the international rollout, but I wonder...

Could they be holding off the release of iO.S 4 for iPad because of new features such as FaceTime coming with new hardware? I mean, couldn't they just keep the current iPad as the entry model and release camera equipped ones simultaneously but with a higher price tag?

Just sayin'

That's been my theory. iOS4 is being held till November, when they could introduce with a hardware revision. iOS4 launched with a new iPhone (the 4), as did iPhone OS 2 (iPhone 3G) and 3 (3GS). Maybe iOS4 for iPad will launch with a new iPad?

Maybe a high-res mode which only turns on for say light-weight reading apps to make the experience of those better? Then, for everything else, it just stays at a pixel-doubled 1024,768?

Agreed. A 10" Retina display (and the processor to drive it) are a long while off. The nice thing about the Retina on the iPhone (and the lack of Retina on the iPad) is it brings the resolutions of the two devices much closer together, making universal app support that much easier.

Scratch the comment I made earlier supporting the idea of the second version representing the T-Mobile version. This suggestion sounds much more plausible.

What's everyone got with additional RAM? Do you ever notice a problem with RAM in use?

Yes, the new iPad will have more RAM but it's not screaming for it.

You won't say that once iOS4 ships. The thing only has 128mb of RAM, and as the 3G has demonstrated, that's not enough, even without multitasking.

Phazer

Absolutely. The A4 is very crippled and slow. The iPad needs more RAM to really have the A4 shine, but then the A4 is slow compared to what Apple should have released. I wish people would educate themselves before going into fanboy rant mode. It really ruins the forum experience for me.

Or course they will be working on one but stop and think about it for a moment.

1: You have literally only just started shipping to many countries in the world.

2: You are selling your current model as fast (if not faster) than you can physically make them.

3: You have no competition from anyone.

Would you choose to scrap the current model and replace it yet?

No, you would wait. The longer you wait, the cheaper the hardware will become for you. the higher spec you may be able to offer. The more ready 1st adopters will be to sell their current model on and buy another one.

There is no logical reason to release another version until you need to.

It's 256mb actually - the same as the 3GS

BTW, the problems with iOS4 on the iPhone 3G isn't due to the RAM - it's mainly the 333mhz processor - a problem the iPad doesn't have.

No. It's one thing for Apple to release an OS update that runs slow on a years-old device. It's quite different for Apple to do so for the only version on the market. If you're right, when iOS4 ships for the iPad next month, every iPad on the planet will suffer from performance issues.

Do you really think Apple is dumb enough to release software that cripples every single iPad in existence?

I remember iPad having half the RAM of the iPhone 4. Post corrected. Anyhow, the gist of my post stands.

There is one reason. New hardware incentivizes the current owners to buy the upgraded model, before they could be distracted by competitors tablets.

Remember: the iPhone 3G came out without any real iPhone competition too.
