I am one of those people who feel strongly about Apple keeping at least one phone with a headphone jack.
...
Forget it. You will ALWAYS have a large and vocal group who simply parrot whatever Apple says/does, and claim it's the BEST thing ever. If Apple did a complete 180, these same people would praise the move and praise apple for the strategic about face.

For anyone gushing about how AWESOME blutooth is, just ask them what they can do now, that they couldn't do, when the headphone jack was still present. They will fumble and stammer, maybe say "water resistance" eventually. But the answer is NOTHING. They are simply gloating in the pain of others. Most will deny, but some will admit this. 3.5mm headphone jack is no CD-ROM, nor 3.5" Floppy, it's used every day by millions upon millions of people - no mater what Apple says.

The funny part is that I use wireless headphones with my iPad, but still use wired for my iPhone. The opposite of the wacky path Apple is pushing us down. The 3.5mm headphone jack does not deter my use/enjoyment of wireless headphones with the iPad.

The low cost model is fine with me. Because it is the lowest cost model why take out the jack?
If Apple is trying to make it more affordable to more people why increase the cost by getting rid of the jack? Having to buy more expensive headphones like Apple's wireless ones. Other wireless headphones from what I read don't sound as good as wired.
Apple's headphones don't stay in my ears and they hurt my ears.
The dongle is an unnecessary inconvenience. They get lost and I would need multiples and having to carry it all the time is just dumb. My 15 year old truck uses the headphone jack to play my music off my phone to its cassette deck. I work in a school and connect my phone to multiple speaker systems throughout the school for various reasons. In the library, in the cafeteria, in the meeting rooms, etc. are a few places audio is played. The jack is a must to have when working in such environments. Old equipment has the 3.5mm jack. Too many people are too narrowly focused to see the big picture when it comes to use cases and convenience when it comes to keeping the ubiquitous little jack.
Are Apple's engineers less capable then Samsungs? That must be the case for the excuse of waterproofing to be used. Samsung didn't need to get rid of the jack to waterproof.
Looks like Apple needs to find some better engineers or stop using that lame excuse.
Apple thinking… how can we increase our profits?
Let's get rid of the headphone jack and sell some awesome $150 wireless headphones.
Sure we could sell the headphones without getting rid of the jack but it provides a good reason for people to buy our new headphones.
I know, we'll call it courageous of us to reduce convenience for many so we can increase our profits.
The Apple defenders will say it is old tech and it's time for a change.
There are lots of things that stand the test of time for good reason.
The headphone jack is one of those things.

With the release bluetooth 5.0, there no reason not to go on bluetooth headphones. If you look at the serious music crowd, high school and college students, about 80% now are using bluetooth headphones, earbuds, etc...

So it seems like SE2 is more or less shaping up to become the netbook of iPhones. Shame.

The current SE reminds me of what Mac minis used to be: simple, solid, reasonably priced and extremely useful products for ordinary people. I would hate to see it suffer the same fate: lobotomy, followed by oblivion.

You can only re-use aging hardware and re-re-recycle the design for so many times. But removing the headphone jack altogether would really be a dumb move - even more here than it was with their premium phones.

Confirms my fear.. I absolutely LOVE my SE and the primary reasons I’ve stuck with this classic form factor is because it’s more durable and has a built-in headphone jack (very important for actual artists and musicians). I won’t be replacing my SE if they remove the audio jack and decrease durability via rear glass (and/or 6 style raised front glass).

Didn't they fill that space with a barometer? That is more useful to me than a headphone jack.

You know, you can always use the adapter that comes with the phone and still use your wired headphones...

And this form factor will sell like hotcakes.
Almost everyone I met who tried a bigger phone (~IP6 size) would never go back to something smaller. I don't think there are so many of those eagerly waiting for a tiny phone .. as these small screens are not so comfortable to work with, typing on tiny screen is more difficult too. The only benefit I see is physically smaller size and likely a bit lover price tag. But comfort of using such phone is much
I think my wife would like one, but I won't get it for her unless it has at least an A11 chip.

Yes, Yes. I dislike large phones and have been waiting for a replacement for my current SE for some time now.

Record Apple sales show most people don't agree with you.

You’re equating two totally different points.

For example, take a look at my situation.

I have no real loyalty to Apple, after all they are just a company.

If it wasn’t for iOS, I would probably be purchasing the flagship Samsung phone as I think it looks better than the iPhone X.

The reason I don’t, is the duration of device iOS support (5 years) and the frequency of updates.

When I am using my phone for all kinds of personal information, including financial transactions, I want it to be as secure as possible.

This cannot be achieved if you leave updates at the mercy of the many device manufacturers as happens with Android.

That and the fact that Google was founded on the monetisation of personal information (which happens with Apple to a much lesser extent).

So my reasons for staying with Apple have very little to do with the form factor or features of the device and I doubt I’m the only one with viewpoint.

Doesn’t mean I don’t chip in with an opinion on device form however

It’s not just smaller...it’s cheap. There are people who like either or both.

the SE features "raise to wake" thanks to the A9 cpu, thanks to the coprocessor to be more precise

rarely use the wake button

Nah, it doesn't work if you want to turn off the screen, and that is the main reason of the button, not to wake it(you can press the home button) but to put it to sleep

im interested in the camera, Mine iPhone 5 is good for 7 years, battery replaced recently and it just works. Only down side apps are not developed for this phone and every update it bounces with messages, Hardware not supported.

And only a matter of time before iPads and Macs lose their headphone jacks as well.
There’s enough room it doesn’t matter on those... so that’s the real test of if they will do it ‘just becuse’

No 3.5mm headphone Jack, unlikely. The SE is a cheap phone *mainly* for poorer countries. Wireless earphones are still relatively expensive.
You would be surprised what people have in poor countries. I have been to Cuba, Vietnam, Brasil, Kenya, Botswana and yes people are poor, but everyone have an iPhone or Galaxy.

You do know you can connect any normal headphones via the Lightning port ?

Only with an annoying adapter that produces sound that's worse than any iPhone/iPod with a headphone jack.

That doesn't mean they'll also be happy to afford more expensive wireless headphones. It's already expensive enough to buy an iPhone, having to spend 10 times more on wireless headphones when the wired ones were perfectly fine is unnecessary, for everyone, but especially for poor people.

I need the chargers - once every four years is not a bad burden.

I prefer Apple upgrade the quality of its Lightning cables; as with all the Apple cables before, they are crap. Within six months, theater sleeve frays at the 1mm point outside the harder tube. The conducting cables follow soon after. MFI cables are better, while the original cables are $25 at Apple!

Wonder how many iPhones were lost to the short-circuit at the Lightning port from these cables. Those unexplained errors Apple code 2001-2009 and more) that fry the capacitor that powers the MB, leading to entire loss of the phone across several year models.

I was replying to previous point and actually agree with you that manufacturers should include chargers with every new electronic device.

Someone else had suggested stopping this practice to which I replied, “no thanks”.

Well, they've finally done it ! (almost).

Taking out the headphone jack from former iPhones... Won't be long now ... Enjoy it while it lasts.

I Disagree. I don’t think iPads or MacBooks will lose the 3.5 mm Jack. Those are more stationary devices for the most part, the iPhone is a pocketable device where consumers are constantly on the go being tethered to our smart phones and having freedom wires is more of a convenience than anything, even though the sound quality is not what wired headphones would deliver, The trade-off is more a benefit with the product like the AirPods being wireless, especially with physical fitness.

Based on the rumor, they had to do something to screw people out: best designed iPhone, updated specs... but no fracking headphone jack.

There are times when I feel like super smart aliens can't come any sooner to disintegrate all the greedy basterds on this planet. Maybe the super AI will come sooner than aliens, time will tell.
