Apple is going to suck as much $$ as they can from unsuspecting consumers using that design for as long as they can. Maybe 2035 it will finally die lol.
You mean the consumers that haven’t yet seen iPhones with no home buttons and bezels?

So they walk into an apple store and just completely do not see all the iPhones with no home buttons or bezels? I mean walk into any store that sells phones (doesn't even have to be an apple store) and iPhones (those ones without that pesky home button and bezels) are always front and center..

Still on the 2016 SE, but thinking of replacing the aging device.

I think the 13 Mini would be a better choice, as the SE2 is bigger than the SE1. The 13 Mini is closer in size.

I think I would miss the Touch ID and home button though.
I replaced my 1st gen SE (4" screen) with an iPhone 12 Mini and I hate it. It's huge. I can't imagine having the even larger current SE. If you go with the Mini, you will definitely miss Touch ID and home button. It's a nightmare. Face ID is super inconvenient and way more trouble to use than TouchID. The lack of home button is also very cumbersome and inefficient to deal with. Unfortunately, I think you'll be disappointed with either the new SE or the current Mini, but will probably have to choose one due to your original SE's age, as you said.

They should use the chasis for the X as the base for the SE model. Get rid of the dated look of the current SE. Apple is getting rid of the home button for pretty much everything else, might as well do it for the SE as well (or at least move it to the side in the power button like the ipad).
The SE gives an iPhone for the large number of people who prefer Touch ID to faceID. I'm not one, but I understand why some people have a strong preference. Going with the X style would cut those people off.

I like Touch ID. Actually missing it put me off from my planned buy of the 13. Because when I travel by train I need to wear a mask all the time. Touch ID is perfect for it.
As long as my 6S carries on I can wait. Will consider the SE3 versus the 13. But will need at least 256 storage.

Yeah - those consumers. I mean - how long will they remain unsuspecting?

Touch ID on the SE forced me to ditch my 11 Pro and return the 12 that I tried to use. Touch ID just always works no matter what which is something you need when you're forced to wear a facemask so often.

Apple has to bring back Touch ID to flagship iPhones, maybe do a combo of both Face ID and Touch ID on the same device.

A combo on a flagship iPhone would incentivise a lot to upgrade just because of the facemask nuisances.

Or you know take the 2 seconds to type in your password (or if have an Apple Watch use the unlock with Apple Watch). People aren't going to be wearing masks forever...

I hope they keep updating the internals of the SE while leaving the form factor exactly as it is. My elderly mother absolutely loves its form factor and touchID, and appreciates being able to keep upgrading her phone every 4-5 years without changing anything.

Remember, the SE isn't for tech enthusiasts, it's for regular people who want an inexpensive phone that does the basics.

Sounds great to me. I have the 2020 SE, and it is terrific. At launch, I bought four of them for the family at $200 each from Walmart. Great deal. Very reliable phone. Personally, I like the design and Touch ID.

For my purposes, Apple should keep the price point and form factor, but continue to improve the internals and camera. That would work for me. Frankly, I don't need to trade-in my current 2020 SE, since it does everything I want. However, if an updated processor would improve battery life, I might be interested. My current phone is pretty good, but you always can use more battery life.

Agree. Using face on 12 and hate it. I like the cameras though. But if an SE has A15 and runs latest iOS I just may dump 12 for realistic convenience.

“In terms of product development, Apple is staying with the plan to release its third-generation iPhone SE in 1Q22 and four models under a new series in 2H22”
That means we will still get a new mini

Hopefully, the prices of the SE iPhone will drop. It’s still too expensive. Also, get rid of 64GB, please. It should start from 128GB

The market would disagree with you. The SE was the #2 selling smartphone of 2021 across all manufacturers, selling over 21 million units.

I can't wait to see the iPhone 6 design die... how long will it take!?

Just proof of how good design is better than forced-changed design. It’s the easiest to hold, the home button *is* better than the swipe, Touch ID is more convenient than Face ID and on and on. Basically the design hasn’t died because it’s ergonomic and user-friendly.

Why?? Can't Apple just keep the Mini in the upcoming generations and just dumb it down to meet their bottom line? With the Mini, you have a bigger screen, smaller chassis, and lighter weight vs. the 2nd gen. SE.

Right now, if you make the memory equal, it is only a $200 more with Mini. Most people who are going for a mid-range phone are more likely going to make monthly payments anyway.

Tightening the margin to $100 difference = $4.16 more per month, Courage Apple, courage...

Because the SE sold 21 million units this year and was the #2 selling smartphone in the entire market across all manufacturers.

Good news for me - I'm after something small to replace my aging iPhone 6s. I would definitely have gone for the latest iPhone mini, but the camera bump grew into such a stupidly huge thing that I just couldn't go for it.
Camera is the best part of the mini. I wish it had 3 lenses.

It’s funny but for me Touch ID has not worked well for me in the colder months. My hands crack from the dryness and I find that super glue is a great gap filler / pain reduction tool but since it changes the shape of my fingers it properly stops Touch ID from working for me with my iPad pros. My 02 cents.

So we would clearly need both touch and Face ID in parallel. But this would not be some SE premiere feature but a Pro innovation first.

The looks are okay. The thing I'd miss most on the SE2 are more than 128 storage (for new ones) and maybe a wide angle lens for the camera. On the other hand it's good value and has a contemporary chip. If the SE3 is not supersized it is even more interesting to me.
