It's not. But they chose to post the video and 299 replies on this forum speculated on all of it and whether or not he did, it was approved etc. I hope he didn't. Seems like a nice guy.

I have mixed feelings about it. If you recall, Apple security accompanied the police in raiding someone's house and trying to ruin their life over posted images of an unreleased phone in the past. Releasing unauthorized leaks I would think would be dealt with severely internally just as well. Apple has become quite a leaking boat now though, so who knows.

The reality to me is that this young lady is benefiting from the "leak", and if posted a little later would have still been benefiting personally from Daddy working for Apple. Its a misuse of his position at Apple in either case.

Exactly. You make my point.
So you agree, that Apple's priorities would lie in keeping pre-release products from being openly shown in the cafeteria (by ordering the people with pre-release products to adhere to this) instead of trying to enforce a no-video policy in an area where 99% of the people won't have any thing leak-able with them?

Someone dropped the ball because he knew very well his daughter was recording this and recording the X that had not been released. Did he tell his daughter a 1000 X that do not show this video recording until after release date. Maybe nothing was said because it's family? Did she do this to get more hits on her YouTube channel?

No offense to young people but you would be surprise what they will do to create more subscribers one recently was in the news about a yr ago where the guy was gonna test a gun against a book to see if the bullet would not go through and his girlfriend stood by watching (actually if I remember correctly she shot the gun) and the guy died. Nothing to do with this case but just showing what extremes people will do to get more subscribers. Everyone wants to be the first to do this or that.

Yes, totally agree Apple would not allow anyone to allow to record operation of a pre-release product in the middle of its cafeteria -- an explicit "no recording allowed" area without its permission. It would shut something like that down like ASAP and delete the video.

Either that or Apple security is of the Paul Blart, Mall Cop variety.

A search on Google images and Flickr for: caffe mac apple, or apple cafeteria cupertino yields photos within the cafeteria, all technically not authorized. Far less so on YouTube, but there are still a bunch from the campus, that are not allowed.

This is obviously a very hard thing to police.

I wonder if anyone can find out for sure if her dad got in trouble or not? Now that's been a day...

Recheck his Linkedin in a couple of weeks.

I'm guessing he'll be fine considering his role is RF engineer and Apple want to be independent of Qualcomm.

She just posted this update on her YouTube account. Apple asked her to take the video down which she did and her dad was let go from the company. She also went on about the amount of hate random people has directed at herself and her dad after the video which I think is sad. Even on MR, just a couple of pages back I've seen people here judging her based on that one video, saying that she's spoiled and valley girl type without even know her and I thought that was so petty. Such cowards that hide behind a screen and keyboard and just go out judging people for no reason.

Probably not a good idea for her to continue posting videos - dad getting terminated for cause (violating confidentiality) is bad enough. Her video is well intentioned, but seriously not something she should make a video about.

Definitely a marketing move from Apple to appeal to her audience base, which I assume is Teens and younger.

The girls dad got fired. Some marketing move huh?

It’s amazing how many people just assume things are pure marketing from apple

You're a good example of why this kind of marketing works.

this didn't happen by accident, this is how you build hype
Annnnd her dad was fired

And Brooke only had access to the phone inside the cafe (at least on camera). With her walking around with a DSLR she would no doubt had to have permission to be recording. Her father, being an Apple employee, no doubt knows the rules of showing off pre-release hardware. Obviously I can't say for sure that he had proper permission, but since it would be an obvious bone-headed move not to have. Also the fact that he had an actual device on him in a public area makes one think this will not be an issue.

Edit: Sorry she had a dslr (looking) camera not a video camera.

And the dad was fired from Apple

Her dad knew she was recording for a start, also she didn’t record anything secretive, Tim Cook was seen with the iPhone X at a recent talk at a University. This is building up hype for the upcoming iPhone X so Apple won’t mind that. I’m looking forward to it, pre-order on Friday here I come :)

FYI...Her dad was fired from Apple today

Lol...I have no idea why people keep saying these sorts of things. The phone has been announced, demoed, and even some people have had hands on time with it. It’s not a secret anymore. Apple doesn’t need to keep the X under wraps. Plus, look at the huge camera she was carrying. Do you really think she lugged that around Apple’s campus without it being approved? I mean, she filmed herself going through security for God’s sake.
The father was fired today from Apple

sad that happened to her dad. Kinda hard to imagine that she didnt' do it to get attention. Not sure who she was referring to when she said a lot of youtubers have the X videos but hers went viral. Aside from the hands on video on the release day, all other youtube videos from youtubers are fake chinese mocks.

Rules are there for a reason. Rules get broken because people feel they are more important, hence why such people loose their jobs or end up in prison.

The father is either very stupid or very naive where his daughter is concerned.

Hahahaha. I love that people are calling them out on being wrong on this. Over and over and over again. Can we take this as a lesson that not everything is for marketing? Sometimes things just happen

It’s equally amazing how many people don’t!

If Apple fired the guy it’s the most moronic thing I’ve seen them do in awhile. That video built hype and spread everywhere. It’s not like the keynote hadn’t already played out.

I can understand a reprimand if he didn’t get permission but geez. Stalin-esque control over a product that Apple already showed the world.

He violated an employment contract. A slap on the wrist suggests to other that it's ok to sneak a video here and there. It's not a small violation either - that video also showed unreleased product codenames and the name of an employee. Now it lives on the Internet forever.

We’re comparing what Apple did to Stalin. Really now?

This new video of hers and it's delusional explanation is one of the most unsettling and unsavory things I have seen in a long time.

After watching it a couple of times I can only wonder if there might be a legal or even criminal follow up to all of this.
