When you go to http://www.apple.com/music you're automatically redirected by the Web Server to the Apple iPod and iTunes page.

If you then attemp to go to http://www.apple.com/movies you'll get the generic Apache Web Server

You don't have permission to access /movies on this server.

Is this evidence of an upcoming Movies page for the much rumored video iPod?

That is really interesting. Everything else i tried to put in directed me to a page that said, "What are you looking for?" everything but movies that is. Nice find!

Could be a porn pod. Loaded with porn videos. No more lugging the powerbook to the bathroom.... yeah thats gross.

Fat chance. Jenna Jameson is already the spokesperson (or poster girl) of iRiver.

The term "video iPod" could mean many different things, if those rumors are true.

1. It could mean something actually CALLED that, or "iPod Video" or some other form with "video" in the name.

2. It could mean an iPod that has a focus on video as the main function.

3. It could mean an updated music iPod that happens to add video to the other little extras. (Makes the most sense to me.)

Remember the rumors that said the new iPod Mini would be thinner and flash-based? I consider those rumors true. The "nano" thing is just a name, it doesn't change the facts of the product.

PS, if I was Steve I'd have a set of red curtains on the stage the whole time for people to wonder about until he finally opens them :)

It does seem to be the kind of entertainment that lives on and flourishes from one administration to another. Finally, an American growth industry with true bi-partisan support.

I think Apple is going to offer Life Extension via your own ipodesque body capsule. You can step out into the future and watch your life memories on video on your iPodLE.

So I just bought my new powerbook two weeks (12 in superdrive) ago tomorrow after waiting soo long for a an update, so I decided to buy it the last day of the free printer and ipod student promotion. And now what do I hear... a possible update next week. DANG.

So......ask yourself why did they have a free printer and iPod promotion? Because they're nice guys? No. Companies (not just Apple) use tactics like this to clear out inventory for the next revised version! They don't have promos like this out of the goodness of their heart. Do you think its a coincidence that the promo happens to be ending right now? As they say in the movies.."This is no coincidence!"

iPod Video is the obvious name for such a product, but probably too obvious.

*iPod Movie

or

*iPod Cinema

iPod Cinema sounds better. Not to mention it would not confuse people about the iMovie program in the iLife Suite.

Ha. You said "grown" while discussing the American pr0n industry.

Come on guys, this is good news, rumor sites have returned to rumors and guessing sites,it allows the magic to return of anticipation, and that is good for all of us.

Yeah, since we're going to find out in a week, then it's better for it to be a surprise. Apple strikes back at the rumor sites!

I think a good name would be 'iPod AV' (as in audio-visual.) This iPod will not be a new bigger form factor, it will be an evolution of the existing iPod form factor. That being the case, Apple doesn't want too much focus to be put on the movie/video part. So calling it 'AV' would be a better representation of what it does anyways- music, images, and video...

Posts just don't get any better than this, folks.

Seriously though, I expect that if an iPod Video is announced, the focus will be on the ability to play music videos as an added feature like the calendar or photos. Higher resolution photos will also be a bonus. It will probably be left open in the form the original iPods were so that people can import their own H.264 videos from a few different formats. (Maybe they'll leave the conversion to some enterprising open source coder) This allows them to gauge the market without much in the way of risk. If people don't want to download TV shows then they don't lose out because all they've done really is to make the screen bigger so that people can see bigger photos. On the other hand if a TV show/movie store is announced I'll fly to Shenzhen and pick one up myself. (Don't hold me to the Shenzhen part)

This post is DEAD ON BALLS ACCURATE!

Not really (although it's certainly as good as anyone else's speculation).

1. Curtains from iDVD. Maybe they used those curtains, because that's the clip art they happened to have? It's certainly more of a stretch than the 'movie' connotation. Either way, it could just be a generic 'the show is about to start' image.

2. Year of HD. That tagline was sort of overblown anyway. How much HD work is being done now? Maybe in a year or 2. HD would have a lot more relevance for pro's, but then this big worldwide press event wouldn't be necessary...

3. The pro line is sliding, true. But what is realistically possible, a few months before Intel? A dual-core dual CPU Mac would be great, except how likely is it that Apple would do a whole new motherboard design for a model with limited release window?

That being said, if the Intel PMacs are coming last, this model could be sold for the better part of a year...so maybe...

It would of course be the best of all worlds if we got PowerMac, PowerBook, AND iPod updates. I think it's actually quite possible. No reason why a PowerMac update would necessarily exclude an iPod update, and vice versa.

If it does turn out that Apple makes a Video Ipod it won't compare to the PSP. There isn't no way apple can compete with the UMD so I really don't see the point. But I would really like to see them try. I will buy it anyways because I all ready have every ipod out.

Again, I wish we had Time Machines!

If I had a time machine I wouldn't use it to travel ahead in time 1 week just to see what Jobs announces. If that's priority number one for a time machine owner, they have issues. :p ;)

I agree with the comment 'not too much focus on the movie/video part'.

It's still an iPod and it's first job is to be an iPod. Which is good because iPod prices can't skyrocket because of a feature that only some of us want.

Video has limited value- Apple needs time to get more content up on iTMS or they have to stike an incredible deal that let's us rip DVDs.

Yeah, its way better than UMD! What a pile of crap, having to buy second copies of all your movies, or buying expensive Memory Sticks that have much smaller storage space than an iPod hard drive!

Yep, UMD is crap. How many times do we have to pay for the same 1s and 0s?

Oh, and BTW the PSP 4-hour playtime is crap too. Ok, great games but not quite there as a portable music player.

Wow, I would have picked Saturday's Powerball numbers for the $205 Million dollar jackpot...but to each their own.

Time machine forward 1 week? No! Time machine to travel back to 1980 to buy up all that star wars stuff that goes for $5000 a figure! Then travel ahead 20 yrs, buy the 10 core dual powermac at 20ghz and then come back to present. YEAH!

form factor, NOT capacity! I've got the biggest collection of music of anybody I know (30 days), and I don't need any more capacity than my 20 giger.

Mine is 36 days...12,400+ on my 60GB iPod w/9GBs free...

Well I guess if they come out with an ipod with a huge screen that plays videos has contact managment and addressbook, plays mp3s and has games then all they have to do is add handwriting recognition to the screen and rename it NEWTON!

I heard my local TV news station say it was going to be a new Video iPod release. How they found out, or if they know, I'm not sure. My teacher also heard the same thing on the radio, then again that station said it was going to be today to, and I don't see them :p

I think the PSP makes a great portable movie player. Just don't buy the UMD's you already have on DVD and your gold. Yeah the battery sucks but you can at least get two movies in.

I have my credit card out for a new iPod...
but not a video Airport Express. and not yet a powerbook - unless it's an intel which is totally doubtful (so people - don't freak out on me)
