What about the possiblity of having a tablet pc? I know they got a patent on a design for one a few months ago. Do you think they will wait until they have intel chips to bring it ou?
MacTruck said:I disagree. A bigger screen and able to play all video formats would rock. You could say the same thing about the ipod photo. Why would someone want to look at photos on the go? Its all about traveling. Being able to record your favorite shows via eyetv and put them on your video ipod for that 14 hr plane trip to england would be awesome. Videos of the kids, videos related to work in the film industry and ofcourse porn.![]()

Hmmm... they already have, in part--I just watched the beginning of "Serenity" online (from Universal's international arm):Yvan256 said:I'm not sure if someone posted this link already (don't want to read 10 pages worth of comments and replies), but here goes.

Since Apple sent out media invitations for a special announcement on October 12th, the rumor mill has been buzzing. There have been reports of a video iPod, an Airport Express with Video, as well as PowerMac and Powerbook updates.
ThinkSecret amends their earlier PowerMac/Powerbook rumor report with some further details of the upcoming media event.
According to the rumor site, Apple will be delivering an iPod update alongside Pro Mac updates... but ThinkSecret reports that Apple will not be delivering a Video-capable iPod. This is contrary to a recent claim by Appleinsider.
The new iPod will boost storage capacity to 80GB as well as what appears to be minor cosmetic and interface changes. ThinkSecret maintains that there will be no Video iPod, which is in concordance with historic comments by Steve Jobs.
Meanwhile, PowerMac and Powerbook updates are still expected but details are still limited.
I still think it's more likely that we'll see the iPod Video. I do agree with you, though. The Mac mini is certainly due for an update, along with the appearance of the iBooks and PowerBooks.jp6finger said:IMO I think that apple will come out with a new mini mac. followed by a cheaper version of the current diplays and final revial the long awaited power book. I would also like to note that the power book / new ibook will be black similar to the Tiger / nano website and the new Nana that is all black. You can't stay white forever!

alien said:I still am dumbfounded with the idea that curtains on an invitation means that there will be a video iPod or iTMS movie downloading/streaming or whatever. Granted that there could be an anouncement to that effect on Wednesday but really... I think that it's more likely that the "pro" line will get updated. Here are a couple reasons why I think that the curtains are more indicitive of this scenario.
1) As someone eluded to, the curtains look like those from iDVD. Last time I checked you can't use iDVD on an iPod, and you have to use an actual computer to create dvd or HD content.
2) Year of HD. Currently only the top of the line Powermac can edit two uncompressed HD streams at the same time. Seems pretty weak if only one computer in the entire line-up can edit HD content somewhat effectively, especially when it is supposed to be the year of HD.
3) As Thinksecret stated... the pro line is taking a big slide in sales and needs some updating before it takes an even bigger turn for the worse.
4) It would be ridiculous to come out with another iPod so close to the nano. I've heard that the sales of it are a lot lower than they anticipated to date. Why would they bring something else out that would be in competition with it.
My speculation is that a new iPod with minor revisions will probably be shown at the presentation next week, just in time for the christmas rush, but the main attraction is going to be the Dual core Powermacs, and possibly an updated Powerbook.
I don't see how a dual dual core system would be considered a minor update? especially if there are other internal updates as well. As for the G5 being on its way out the door and that Apple won't be doing any sort of Keynote presentations for the G5s any more... I think that's a bunch of garbage. The transition to Intel isn't supposed to be complete until the end of 2007... that's oh... over 2 years away? When most people on here think that apple should be updating their computers ever 6 months... that's 4 updates. I think that the G5 is going to be around in the pro line for quite some time... at least until january/march 07 so some major work needs to be done so that the computer has some "legs" over the next 1 1/2 - 2 years.
As for the Powerbook... it definitely is in need of an upgrade. Unfortunately, I think that apple painted themselves into a corner on that one. I'm hoping that this new OS X update that everyone is talking about allows the OS take advantage of some of the new hardware. We'll see though.
On that note... I think I'm done my rant. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new powermac because my g4 667 is in desparate need of replacement.
Perhaps you're right. Maybe the curtains mean that they will present a movie clip in the movie theatre, using high definition off of an updated PowerBook.alien said:I still am dumbfounded with the idea that curtains on an invitation means that there will be a video iPod or iTMS movie downloading/streaming or whatever. I can certainly understand why they wouldnt want to divulge new product information within a few *months/years* before it is ready for mass distribution, but why the need to keep new products shrouded in mystery when you're within a *week* of making the announcement. Granted there was a time when this strategy was necessary for the sake of Apples bottom line, but thats not the case anymore Apples accumulated a massive profit from the success of the iPod.
I think its time for Apple to grow up and quit expecting all of this fan-fare around new product announcements.

I notice your "home life" includes iPod's..Why do you use them at home?
Forgive me but I don't own an iPod and just want to know the benefits to using one in your home..
For the record my home is completely wireless..I use 3 Airports for playing music and the internet..
