Has anyone thought about linking this up with the leaked BBC story? The BBC is currently trialing a video on demand service so maybe they will be supplying some kind of exclusive content to an Apple Movie/Video service?
There is meant to be an announcement of something being broadcast on the beeb on the 12th.--Jon
any news service that "leaks" this information is just rehashing rumors that have turned into legit stories through the grape vine. they're the same sources and rumors we're reading about.
some thoughts. i agree, i dont think there will be a video iPod. it just doesnt make any sense. apple is right, nobody wants to walk around starting at a screen. think of all the fights that will happen on NYC streets b/c of the increase of collisions. mayhem. anyway, maybe apple is increasing screen resolution and size for better photo viewing. these first ipod photos are a real gimmick if you ask me. the pictures really look like crap. and i sure as hell wouldnt want to watch a movie or TV show on such a bad screen either. how is that fun?
so sure, update the iPod to 30 and 60/80 gb or whatever (remember the graphic slip-up on the apple site after they announced the nano) but it's not going to support video. thinner form factor, larger viewing screen with more info (see all id3 tag info maybe?), much better battery life, etc.
maybe if bluetooth is ever integrated it wont be for wireless headphones, it'll be for integration with your phone. so you're listening to a song and you get a call, your iPod pauses and says "incoming call". maybe you can navigate your calendar on your iPod and select "call Amy" and it signals your phone to make the call.
the only time that's going to happen is when apple develops/licenses some app that can rip DVDs directly to your iPod (or whatever it's called) for displaying purposes there only. like a video can only be played from the ipod onto which it was encoded.
if you think about it, audio is a passive experience and that is what the iPod is perfect at providing. it has succeeded b/c you can put it in your pocket and cary on with your day. a video changes everything. it's no longer a passive experience. you have to stop moving and watch. when apple does produce a portable video player, it will be a different form factor - maybe more in the style of the tablet idea. 4 hr battery life is fine, it gets 1-2 movies in just fine. large screen good for plane, car, bus, wherever. something multiple people can view. thats my thought. maybe after something like that is released Apple will release firmware to allow our iPods to play videos, but even then, it'll still be just a gimmick for the iPod. iPod = music. ? = video. they came up with a name for mobile music, they'll come up with a NEW one for mobile video.
edit: just read up the thread. someone made a good point. have we seen this red curtain before? does it signify "movie curtain"? home theatre integration device?
