This is probably my favorite iPod ad ever. I saved this one, it actually made me smile.

Started a forum topic last night and sent this to arn. Thanks for not giving me credit...

I liked la musica!!!

Ayayayayayay! haha

I liked this ad, simple fun, and captures your attention. :apple: :apple:

It's a good ad, but less focused than previous efforts. I really think they went overboard with the graphics here, and the camera is way too shaky.

a dream come true...

I fear this story may be of no significance to any of you, but this ad has some strange importance for me... so I decided to make my first post!

http://chrisdane.tumblr.com/post/1975048

here's a preview:

This long story begins at 04.36 on Saturday 6th May 2006, or maybe a few moments before.

Friday night - me, my mac, and my work. I imagine it went something like this: shun the social advances of friends, supermarket, pasta bake, smoke, work. That night, as the date modified logs on my computer would have me believe, my 'work' was uploading a new audio showreel onto my website - www.mudaudio.com

It's a good ad, but less focused than previous efforts. I really think they went overboard with the graphics here, and the camera is way too shaky.

It would be boring without the shaky camera. It gives it a special effect, makes the viewer feel like they're dancing along with the people in the commercial.

This is one of the best ones yet. I love how they're branching out and using other genres of music instead of sticking to mostly pop and rock.

And like someone said before me, this one has a real "summery" feel.

I'm getting tired of these ads. It's OK to keep these going but they should launch one or two other genres.

They do exactly that. Remember the hands and the iPod nano, or the city built out of album art? There have been a couple others, too, that were made in the midst of all the silhouette ads.

By the way, I love this new ad. I think it is one of the best yet. Absolutely love the textures the recent ads have had.

I have really been pleased with the variation they've had across these commercials to keep them from getting old, and yet they are consistent and project such a strong brand.

Edit: Here are some example: 1 2 3

I have to say I really like it.

It is something new.

How did they make it would be fun to try this effect on my own videos.

Layers in Z-space with differing distances:

A background color layer (or more), some with texture overlays

Effects layers for the lens flares

Two layers of rotoscoping (one for the silhouettes, one for the iPod and headphones).

More texture overlays

A camera moving around the scene in three dimensions.

Everything but the rotoscoping is feasible with in Motion 3.

No "filter" would do this for your home videos. Heh.

I agree. The camera movement definitely adds to the commercial. Gives it a more modern look. I'm sure the ad would have been much easier to produce if it was just a camera locked-down on a tripod.

I also like the different genres. The Wynton Marsalis jazz one was nice. It was one of the first ones to use textures rather than the solid color.

I think its kinda sad that apple won't create new concepts for commercials, they have the same style commercials for a year or so, just with different story lines or tweaks

I saw this first today at the Apple Store, SoHo (New York City) and it really impressed me. The music was different and the animation went very well with it.

Right, because everyone knows that it's marketing suicide to use repetition and engaging eye candy. Just look at how those iPods sit on the shelves, month after month, collecting dust. They should really fire their agency and get someone who can do the job.

I like the muted trumpet in the music, and the fact that the trumpet and mute are in the ad. Let's hear it for trumpet players!
