Don't know if somebody else mentioned it before, but over at AppleNova they had a story running that it would be on mondays NEWSWEEK cover. They pulled it on the sources request but will republish tomorrow (which sounds a bit odd...).

If it adds AirTunes capability I might get one....

jph

Just read the thread about it. Wish I could catch the story. But this would be an out of the ordinary way of showcasing the iPod. Can't wait till tomorrow... If they keep their promise that is.

Now if my family just subscribed to Newsweek. (We get Time around here.)

I've seen your three posts in two threads. You don't need to repeat it. If you want more people to take your word for it, you could tell us more about how you got the information. However, even then people will choose what to believe and continue to speculate. That's one of the reasons we have forums.

I think wireless connections would be great. How long would it take to fill an iPod that way?

For me it would be sufficient if I could stream from the iPod to my stereo. I guess current wireless technology is far slower than firewire (just a guess though) meaning wired "filling" is still the way to go...

They had it on the main page as a headline story w/ a (mock - I guess) photo.
Maybe they're just combining all the info together w/ Thinksecret (now that they're sharing the forums w/ them, too)...

yeah, why would they put wireless firewire on an ipod, if NO macs had it? its cool, but id have to get a pc card for my powerbook :D. plus, they JUST came out with fw800. they wont update it so soon.
EDIT, COOL IDEA: ok, how about a fw800 device, that adds fire'wireless :D (is that how its spelled?)

Ok thanks for the tip. Well lets just say that apple needs to have a little manual for a product before it is released, and lets just say that I have a close connection to someone somewhere. This is all the information I have now but I am hard at work looking for more.

If this holds true, and Newsweek has start the presses already, this will only force Apple to show their hand Monday. So no moving release dates! (If everything is true)

I think WiFi has MANY great potential uses in an iPod.

1. syncing -- only sort of useful.. would be cool for minor updates but not a big, first-time big sync. Then again, it would need a separate power charger.

2. AirTunes remote.

Those are the obvious ones... but people, think BIG.

Take your iPod to any WiFi hotspot, and maybe get some plain-text email in a basic email reader application (which you set up on your Mac, and have the settings sync over).

In the future, how about iTMS2Go. You want to buy a track on the spot, when you're not near your computer (say, you're at a party)... Maybe some version of iTMS with the iPod navigation system. It would sync right back up to iTunes. Let's see some other player/music store do that!

Rendezvous iPod music sharing. Hey, some other 4G iPod user is on my train, now I can stream his non-protected music... and if I like it, click a button and go to iTMS2Go and purchase it myself!

I know some of this might seem silly, maybe it is. Just brainstorming -- imagine what talented professionals could come up with! :)

Of course, we won't see WiFi in an iPod until battery technology is better.

Newsweek, iPOD, AppleNova

Article pulled. However I read it and it said that Newsweek was at Apple headquarters to do an exclusiv on the iPOD. This article on the iPOD in Newsweek will serve to introduce the new iPOD. And mag to hit airports Sunday evening and street Monday

They also said something about a photo-shooting for the iPod - IF I remember correctly (looking at that almost empty bottle of wine I not so sure anymore :p )

Do you have any info on this or is it just a guess? I really doubt any video capable iPod in the near future (they're selling faster than Apple can make them and the battery issue needs to be resolved first - well, IF they introduce much better batteries, then it could get interesting...)

OMG, now I'm even more excited now. I'll have to pick up that newsweek, because I too get Time. OH boy! :D

Are you speculating or do you have a real source for this? My guess is that Apple will keep the same price point but bump up the HD size:

20 gig: $299
40 gig: $399
60 gig: $499

WMA: Fat chance. They're converting WMAs to AAC on the Windows version of iTunes.

Oggs: It might be possible, compared to WMA anyway. I myself don't use it since I'm not an audiophile, but I think Apple will want to push AAC as long as it is the format for the Music Store.
