I would get an iPod if...

I could plug it into my car and not have to use a FM transmitter. Problem is, I only have a CD player, and I have no line-in in the back of my stereo. Pain in the neck I say, as I don't want to buy a new stereo just for an iPod - the point of getting the iPod is to not use the stereo. I can't really think of a solution to this. I have a 2003 Altima S. Also, the iPods storage can't keep up with my library, although it's getting close. I now have 65 GB of mp3s, and so a 60 barely doesn't fit. I guess that doesn't really matter though as I'd never carry my whole library around... I just want to use one in my car without a FM transmitter. Anyone have a spare CD player with line-in that want to give me?

Not sure of Newsweek's release timing, but their website shows a Kerry/Edwards picture on the current issue, and the story says "July 19 issue" which is this upcoming Monday, to be released. or please clarify for us.

magazines use absurdly distant dates to mark their publication. I've had the August issue of Car and Driver here for at least several days, since the middle of July.

The Newsweek issue you cite is "last week's" issue. I've had it here at the house all week. There will be a new issue Monday.

I think it will look light the ipod mini/ new displays I saw them at the apple store today and the sides are white plastic on the sides. and I really like the way the look they are much more impresive in real life, but i think that is apple's new style alluminum with plastic on top and bottom/ sides

That picture looks like the 1G iPod.

I'm guessing 2G. Are there really people out there who haven't seen the 1/2G design? I still think it's the best, but then I have one so I'm bound to be biased...

I remember buying an issue of FHM in November that had January on the cover... I guess it makes people feel there's always a new issue out.

Nobody wants a line in for recording? If that happened I could do away with my minidisc for good.

Weekly magazines such as Newsweek and Time have the following week's date on the cover. Tomorrow when they both come out the date will say:

July 24, 2004

They both arrive at most airports on Sunday evening with the issue available Monday at newsstands. Mail delivery is usually on Tuesday. This has been the case almost since they first started publishing. MSNBC is where the Newsweek website resides. There will probably be an embargo on the story until late Sunday. Apple could even post the new iPods Sunday evening but I doubt it. They waited until the Monday of SJ's keynote to publish the flat panel iMac even though many had already seen it via the Time magazine article published late Sunday on the net and available to some people if they were at an airport or train station Sunday evening. Also it's possible it won't be the prime cover story. Nowadays there is usually a major story with a secondary one shown along the top of the cover.

I see monthlies do that, but it seems silly that weeklies aren't synced to the actual week. Thought it was something like that - thanks!

This would make me finally break down and buy one. If I could have a nice small audio backup device, either analog line-in or digital TOS, that would be cool.

I always thought a CD-quality handheld recorder with hard disk would be a nice idea. Maybe they'll make my idea a reality. Gee, where's my patent attorney...

Also, for those who were wondering, the date on a magazine in most cases refers to the date that newsstands are supposed to stop showing it. Thus, last week's issue of newsweek is taken off stands on july 19, and next week's will be taken off july 26

Well, those who said it was on the cover of newsweek were right. I went to the site, looked at the image URL, messed around with it so it referred to next week's edition, and look what lovely image popped up:

http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/S...s/mag/040726_Issue/nw_300_magcover_040717.jpg

It's kinda small, but it looks like a new iPod to me.

Slick, MrDHammer! Definitely looks different from any other one, and looks more like the original, than the mini, just like the rumor... Now, let the "features" rumors continue :D

Holy crap - you are right.

Look at the banner in that picture - it talks about a story called 'The Iran Connection - now look and find that story on the Newsweek website front page!

At first I thought this was an article from when the iPod was first released, but I think you are 100% correct now. Now all we need to know is WHAT IS NEW ABOUT IT (apart from the way it looks!)

Floop

Man, you are a genius! Very well done! :D

Definitely looks like the real deal. 4 buttons removed, scrollweel moved up a bit, and perhaps iPod made a bit shorter even.

The scrollweel looks a tad darker. Backlit perhaps? Or frosted plastic?

[I guess someone will be very pleased with Newsweek - NOT.
And that someone is also running out of weekly magazines for news reports fast... ;)]

now, you have to go find the story :)

Such as:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/54xxxxx/site/newsweek/

where xxxxx is something past 54606 :D or at least that appears to be their URL structure for stories.

For example the Iran story is at:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5454606/site/newsweek/

This is one of the "more funner" (sic) rumors, early proof!

There's just under 100,000 possiblities, I'll start at 1, you start at 99,999 and everyone else start near the middle. We can have it in two hours. Go

Nice work man, I think it's pretty undisputable that that's the new one ;) I think your new slogan should be "iHack therefore iAm."
