OMG, now I'm even more excited now. I'll have to pick up that newsweek, because I too get Time. OH boy! :D
They have about 100+ people that work in their art, photo, & production departments. Come on, there must be a leak somewhere. I think we'll know by tomorrow AM.

If it's on the cover of Newsweek, it must have some sweet new features. Wireless anyone?

... over at AppleNova they had a story running that it would be on mondays NEWSWEEK cover. jph

which newsweekly--Newsweek or TIME?--was it that broke the embargo on the announcement of the iMac? I remember being in san francisco for MacWorld Expo and before Steve's keynote that announced the product, the story was on the cover of one of those two mags. We were standing in line, waiting to go in for the keynote, discussing it. Reporting at the time said steve j was pretty upset. I can't imagine them using the same mag for an intentional release this time. Somebody check out which one spilled the beans on the iMac, and my money's on the OTHER if something's to be released this time.

I just ordered the 17" Powerbook and a 20gb iPod with the Cram and Jam promotion. I had the order saved in my account for a few days waiting for more info on iPod updates but Apple called my Thursday and offered me $300 off to order it then. With Cram and Jam you need to order the iPod and PB at the same time...

Neither have shipped though (my iSight and extra battery have). Do you think, if these new iPods are released Monday that I could call them up and have them switch the iPod on the order or would I have to cancel whats left on the order and the re-order. Would it be worth the trouble?

Edit: Would Apple maybe just ship a new model over the old one as it seems they are out of stock of all the old models? Estimated ship date is the 27th right now on my order.

The price reduction on 4g iPods will open the $499 price point for the new 60 Mg. Video iPod in late August.

New iPod pricing:

40 Mg. iPod $449
20 Mg. iPod $379
15 Mg. iPod $279

We will also see in August a new 10 Mg. Mini at $249 (new hard drive supplier) and the 4 Mg. Mini will drop to $199

You are a newbie so I won't hold it accountable for you. Your prices sound right on but, you weren't around when the 60 GB news was around.

60 GB ipod $449

40 GB ipod $379

20 GB ipod $279

Applenova and ThinkSecret conspiracy.

What if this whole story was made up to get free publicity. I've never even heard of AppleNova until now; so now I know that it exists and that ThinkSecret has message boards. Tricky, but possible.

saw that on another site. i personally think it'll be a little taller and wider but that looks pretty slick.

and i personally prefer the mini's click wheel than the old ipod scroll wheel.

I am not trying to respark the battle with applenova and this site I am going to tell you. I am a member there. The site was made when an admin at appleinsider.com did something bad. So these people split and made appleinsider.org. Then we changed the name to applenova.

Best Buy out of stock on all iPods

I had a 40 gig in my shopping cart yesterday and today it was gone. I checked on all the iPods at Bestbuy.com and all were out of stock. Hmmmmmm.

I"m just waiting on a Best Buy "18 months same as cash" promo to get my iPod and a new Nikon D70. :D

I apologize, I do not know the history of any mac-site battles. I was just thinking out loud.

What looks slick? It's just the mini slightly scaled up. Did you read the Thinksecret story? It says the new ones will keep the same dimensions mostly but be slightly thinner. And it'll keep the white body. Perhaps a silver click wheel.

Celebrity idea

Delivered through an out-of-the-ordinary publicity medium?

My guess is that it's a celebrity tie in. John Mayer with an iPod on stage? :) Al Gore with an iPod in a boardroom? Oh, wait, I know: Gwyneth Paltrow's baby "Apple" with an iPod in the nursery! :D

How about this?

A tour de force from le tour de france?

If it is really on the cover of Newsweek, there has to be more than "It's thinner and you can put more songs on it!!!"

And it's pretty interesting that TIME isn't getting this exclusive. I guess Apple is still sour over the iMac being revealed early.

Video iPod in late August.

Considering the head of Apple's hardware division said there'd be no video iPod in the immediate future at WWDC I highly doubt it, if you believe there will be a video iPod I have a G5 Powerbook I'd like to sell you?

The debut of the new iPod on the cover of Newsweek doesn't necessarily mean anything out of the ordinary with the new iPod other then evolutionary changes. The iPod is a major success story for Apple and the industry. For that alone it deserves a feature story and/or cover. The story probably will go over all aspects of Apple's successes with iTMS as well. Perhaps they will indicate that the independent labels will be joining iTMS Europe. Don't think for a moment that SJ will not be a big part of the story in the mag.
An interesting sidelight of being in Newsweek is that the website is part of MSNBC, which is part of M$.

Not sure of Newsweek's release timing, but their website shows a Kerry/Edwards picture on the current issue, and the story says "July 19 issue" which is this upcoming Monday, to be released. or please clarify for us.

Hey you!!

Where have you been? I'm sure you're the guy who talked about the last eMacs, weren't you? ... give us news, tell us your point ;) ...

Newsweek always puts the next week date on their magazines. So the ipod magazine will be dated the July 26, 2004 if it happens.

Something bad? Could you elaborate?
