New Jersey Apple Store Robbed of MacBook Pros, iPhones, and iPod Touches

After the first roberry that particular Apple store should have implimented the "Jewelry Store" strategy.

Remove all high value items from display and lock them up. That is what most jewelry stores do.

Two Things

#1 - All of that will be on eBay soon. Plus, just look for guys trying to buy 30 power cords..

#2 - After working so damn hard (like we all have) to earn and buy a MBP or an iPhone, it's really disheartening to watch these scumbags come in, vandalize, and steal everything they wanted.

Does anyone know if the display models would have some kind of tracing program on them? It wouldn't be a bad idea for apple to add some kind of location program to the display notebooks.

I'd probably be a terrible criminal because I'd go for the Mac Pro, 24 inch iMac, and a 30 inch Cinema Display

No he was unarmed... I love Apple, but liberals don't know security.

Now if the guard had an iFrag... there would just be five dead badguys and a message not to rob Apple. I wonder how many copy cats this might inspire most stores in smaller markets are of the same layout.

Although I would love to see an attempted smash and grab at the 5th Ave store... I want to see them all slip fall down the glass stair case. Textured or not, that thing gives me the willies.

they could just open the door and walk in at the 5th ave store its open 24 hours :D

i bet you anything they actually planned this hole thing. i mean like actually running it through their heads:

LOL of course they did captain obvious :D I dont think they just happened to be walking by an Apple store at 2am found a brick on the floor and decided to smash the window while conviniently having their faces covered.

These so called "ritzy" high end malls don't add gates to the front of their stores in order to maintain an upscale look and a certain appereance but in the end that ended up costing this particular apple store a lot of money.

This may sound racist (a little bit), but I think it was sort of stupid of apple to put a store in towns like that. And especially after that first robbery...

Not anymore, especially since this is the second robbery. Their insurance company is going to drop them like a hot potato.

Drop a multi billion dollar company like Apple because of a $50K loss? This is like you or I loosing a half a penny.

First off I doubt Apple is insurerd for this. There it would not make sense for them to buy insurance for theft. They have enough resources to self-insure. To put this in perspective, if Apple never sold another computer or iPod and simple collected interrest on the cash they have they'd make more than $50K per hour. In other words they could afford a loss like to every day and even if they never sold any product they'd still be raking in cash.

The stupid thing was the window. Why not have tempered glass? A rock or even a hammer would not break tempered glass.

after the first break in,

they add an unarmed security guard and no cable locks.

not surprising that they got hit again.

Kensington locks don't offer any security. One snip with a decent pair of cutters and they're gone... just take the locks off the units when you get back to your hideout. It's perfectly possible, and if they were efficient and practiced they would have only been slowed down by maybe 20-30 seconds to get the same haul with another team member dedicated to running around in front cutting the wires.

What it would do, is slow them down. Timing is everything.

I doubt Apple lost $50k exactly, given the price premium they charged on the sticker price

I was watching the video and...they didn't even carry bags with them, just carried them bare hand. It was *all too easy*

The "armed security guard" should be fired and get a nice bill.
The entire reason for having armed security is that they shoot bad guys plain and simple.

Any reasonable employer will tell their security guards or cashiers not to risk themselves for the merchandise. Just having someone there is usually enough.

If I were :apple:, after the first break-in I'd would have installed spyware on each and every one of those Books so that if any are stolen...

This may be interesting!

For what these guards get paid per hour I understand why he ran to the back. I would have done the same thing. I'm not risking bodily harm for $10 a hour.
