If this were to happen; the amount of hate would bend space-time, and likely create new and unusual elements. Perhaps someone should alert CERN

I wouldn't be so quick to write this off. With many signs pointing to the release/announcement of 3G iPhones in the next few weeks, new books would get lost among the hoopla.

You must have missed the recent iMac bump with the 1066Mhz bus speed. ;)

thats just suped up santa rose, we'd still be stuck with x3100 graphics, woohoo bigger bus BIG DEAL

Sure they are due in June.

And just like all the previous Intel Chips, Apple get them a month early... Say in May.

Hrmm what month is it?

then why didnt the imacs get it?

The iMacs can handle a higher thermal envelope then the Mac laptops. The uprated Santa Rosa would be more then enough since the iMac doesn't use integrated graphics as it is. In addition it leaves the chances of a Fall update that's a little more impressive with a quad core.

Perhaps we are going to have to get using to seeing very small upgrades at short intervals? It's not the sort of thing we are used to with Apple but it does happen with many other companies. It's not unheard of with apple either (remember the unannounced speed bumps on Minis about 18 months ago?).

The fanfare will still come occasionally but only when the upgrade is worth shouting about!

Wasn't it exactly 2 years ago in May that we saw the iBook evolve into the MacBook. Update came out of nowhere just popped up one tuesday afternoon.

I would say it makes perfectly good sense we'll see some MacBook redesign's that look more like the MB Air. MacBook Pro's may have to wait a bit longer for an update though.....Bring them on I'm looking to buy!

Mac Mini bump this Tuesday, not the MB or MBP.

Mini is the last Menron.

Redesigned Laptops in Feb or March next year.

I don't believe this for a second, it hasn't even been two and a half months yet since the last updates, and those ones came sooner than usually for the MacBook.

********

Not a chance

i thought that intel even confirmed that the MBP would be updated in june. i am almost certain that WWDC will bring a redesign of both.

The one possible thing they could is to add multi-touch the the macbook now - but i doubt it

Need I say more?

...update that would make sense is FINALLY updating the discontinued 12 inch PBG4 to MBP levels.:)

A 12/13inch MBP just doesn't make sense. The only real differentiation between the MB and MBP lines over time has been a separate graphics card. What's the point of having a great GPU for a machine with a tiny screen that isn't suited to running the applications that make best use of it?

I currently have a 2.6Ghz MBP but I will sell it to my dad if he is willing to pay me enough so I can buy a new one.

Of course I will only sell it if it is worth the money. New design and hopefully the option for Blu-Ray would be great.

But truthfully I doubt that we'll an update before June.

Umm, it better be a 3G/4G laptop -- i.e. HSPA, EvDO, and WiMAX BTO options!!! and not taking up the ONE card slot either!

Blu-Ray BTO options too!

I'm not saying it's likely but don't write off new laptops tomorrow. Apple may be pushing up the Macbooks and Macbook Pros from June to May to take advantage of the rebates this month. I got my $600 today.

Ummm...3 month update? Methinks no.

When the rev b G5 iMac came out on May 3th 2005, I saved and bought it at the end of the month ($1800).
Out of nowhere on Oct. 12, the iMac got a huge update with the iSight, total case redesign making it much
slimmer, lighter, quieter, cooler, ect, not to mention costing $100 less.

Remember, these were PPC chips. Intel chips are getting updated much more often, so anything is possible.

I didn't realize that the MacBook Pro came in a black 13.3" form factor.

Not to mention the iMac Core Duo update from the G5.

The graphic was referring to the 13" Macbook, but its true, the Macbook Pro was only bumped up to a 2.6ghz option late last year. Not a real update.

I would be rather upset if they released a new version THIS soon. I waited forever for a new update so I would get the most for my money, and to then have the quickest update to the MBP ever right after I finally buy would really really really suck. I'm all for progress, but geeze, I'd rather have them wait for the real update.

So one of the main arguments people are making is that Intel would force the switch. Does that mean they will force an iMac update again soon? Don't they use the same chips? That would be incredibly strange...just a few weeks or a month after the iMac update they have to release a newer one. Maybe thats why they overclocked the latest chips...would the new speeds line up with the newest processors so they could do a silent swap out of parts when they become available?
