I'm planning on Upgrading on the next *Major* Revision so if this is it, then I'm sold.

I've been a good boy and held on to my Pre-Santa Rosa MacBook through i believe 2? Updates. 3rd Time's the Charm hopefully

If it's aluminum and a little thinner, I'm sold.

Plus I just upgraded my own macbook to 3GB of Ram, so hopefully I'll get a bit more $$$ for it!

Never say never

Intel has been rather kind to Apple lately.

I love the Buyer's Guide.

The Buyer's Guide is quite amazing. There was only 3 months between the updated Powerbook and the release of the MBP, granted that was at Macworld and then 3 months after that the release of the 17in MBP happened.

So, never say never!

There's always alot of speculations..I have a feeling nothing will happen tomorrow.

agreed. i'd be shocked, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong with mac predictions.

I personally believe nothing new will come until Blu-ray is good to go. But then again, I don't work for or sleep with someone who works for Apple.

Acer has a 16" 1080p Laptop for sale, with Blu-Ray built in, and HDMI etc....

Looked like a good machine

Acer, Gateway, and E-Machine disgust me with an unholy passion. Poorly built IMO. I had a new Gateway desktop turn it's Motherboard and Processor into toast after 15 months. I have a relative who had a similar experience. Then again those were Desktops.

When would an exterior design come for the MacBook? I have the last iBook and the scuffs and dirt that shows on white plastic isn't necessarily pleasing. I could go for a black aluminum MacBook, or any new MacBook.

Dream Machine

... and the weight of an Air?

I am more concerned with overall specs than weight, especially when the weight is a negligable difference. An :apple: laptop with no built in dvd drive, 400/800 firewire port and minimal HD space is just not practical for the majority of people. That being said, the MBA is a beautiful machine, just too limited for the tasks I require. :)

This is why a 12/13 inch full spec MBP makes sense. The sad deal is, :apple: already basically has this laptop on the market sans the separate graphics card and aluminum casing; is called the Mac Blackbook.:apple:

I currently have a 2.6Ghz MBP but I will sell it to my dad if he is willing to pay me enough so I can buy a new one.

Of course I will only sell it if it is worth the money. New design and hopefully the option for Blu-Ray would be great.

But truthfully I doubt that we'll an update before June.

I said this before in another thread.

Blu-ray would be nice, but still a bit expensive. I looked at the movies I just bought on sale at Amazon and they've up their prices also. The players are still at $399 with no free discs. Now that there's no competition from HD DVD, prices will remain high.

The slot-loading Blu-ray drives are still expensive. The ones you see with laptops for cheap are all TRAY loading. Sony is the only one with a slot-loading Blu-ray reader, but they're putting them in all the PS3's.

I think in the Spring updates after the holidays driving down Blu-ray prices will we see them in Macs for playback (earlier in the Mac Pros for authoring).

i really don't see this happening tomorrow. i mean, i hope it does, but i doubt it will. they were just updated.

now, the big updates, if there are big changes, will come at wwdc, at the earliest

WWDC will be focusing on the iPhone (hopefully new model) and the 2.0 Software update, and all the 3rd Party apps.

Get these Laptops released soon, and they can be in people's hands by WWDC.

If this does happen tomorrow and they go all-aluminum, all I have to say is that I'm glad I got my Penryn BlackBook when I did. I don't want an aluminum laptop.

An excellent point

I do not believe that :apple: will totally eliminate the white/black MB. I do believe that :apple: will see the wisdom of adding an aluminum version MB in the current MB price range. Just like you would not purchase an aluminum laptop, my days of buying a plastic laptop are over ( blue clamshell ibook) :apple: this will allow a wider spectrum of customers.

While I agree with you for the most part, I would have to see the updated specs before i say I wouldn't buy an aluminum laptop. At this point, I would prefer the the plastic of the BlackBook to the aluminum, but the right specs and my summer job make this all the more interesting...

I can't wait to see when they do update though, but I think that this is just too soon for an update to happen. I think they will wait till WWDC or until the back to school shopping begins.

Don't see Apple coming out with an Aluminum MacBook. They will keep Aluminum for the MacBook Pros; plastic will stay with the consumer line. Apple wants to keep separation between the lines in both specs and looks.

As much as many would like a 12"/13" Pro, I can't see it happen. Not enough price space to fit it in. With the high-end MacBook at $1499, MacBook Air at $1799, and the 15" Pro at $1999, how much would a 12"/13" cost without cannabalizing sales of either the Air or Black MacBook.

Probably not. WWDC will focus on the iPhone SDK; it is a developer's conference. And Apple does not release new computers for Back to School(Aug/Sep), they release them for Graduation/School District Procurement Season and for Xmas.

Turn the BlackBook into the BlackBookPro? BBP?

Edit: Probably with a weaker dedicated GPU, but still with a dedicated GPU

I disagree...

1.) Apple could slot an an aluminum MB at $1499-1599 by charging a $$ premium for the casing like the Blackbook as opposed to the white MB. This takes care of those people who want an aluminum case w/o going to a 15 inch MBP.

2.) you can keep the specs the exact same as a Black MB. The only real difference between a baseline MBP and a TOTL black MB are the graphics card and screen size.

3.) People are buying MBA for thinness and percieved weight issues; there is no other compelling reason to buy a MBA. An aluminum MB will not affect those sales.:):apple:

No way updates to the portables are coming tomorrow. The MB and MBP were just updated on Feb 26.

No doubt. Still, it made the transition from plastic to aluminum, hinting that it might be more than a consumer/professional distinction.

I thought Steve said they were going all aluminum and glass, or something along those lines.

If I remember that correctly, than an aluminum MB doesnt seem too far fetched.

i think iv read about 5 posts saying the same thing ''they wont be updated cos they were just updated in february'' ok, we know. still.

You seem to be quoting readers and not burners. Most people will not get a BlueRay reader in a laptop as they lose the ability to write.

Are people really looking for a BTO for a $800 or $900 BR Burner in a laptop?
