256GB is a deal breaker. It’s what stops me from buying the 11 now.

Does this mean the 8 is done?

By the way, I wonder if it’s worth it for an iPhone 8 user. I’m pretty happy with my iPhone 8 but maybe it will have shorter battery life when I update it to iOS 13. Aside from that, I’m happy with it.

But having more RAM and a 7nm processor is appealing
It's sad: android users have to buy a new phone to upgrade the OS, iPhone/iPad users have to buy a new iPhone/iPad to upgrade the RAM.

Out of all the names they could have picked, they picked the One that makes the least sense

it’s gonna confuse a lot of people who have a current iPhone SE

if you’re gonna use that name then just call it the SE 2

iPhone 9 makes A lot more sense than “iPhone SE (2020)”

It should be easy to tell apart because in effect the original SE is technically a 4" model (that Apple no longer sell) while the 2020 SE would be a 4.7" model. And they can then release a Plus model for 5.5" later if they wanted.

You might have expected the Apple should then drop the price of the 11 later this year to drop into the gap where an SE Plus would fill.

My feeling though is that the 5.4" iPhone 12 Class device will end up being an OLED Pro model - maybe a 'mini'.

So our range in September becomes (with base spec $ pricing, CPU):

SE 4.7" - 449 A13
11 - 599 A13
12 - 799 A14
12 Pro Mini - 899 (though I would make it 999 but start with 256 storage) A14
12 Pro - 999 A14
12 Pro Max - 1099 A14

There's an obvious opportunity there to release an SE Plus 5.5" while retiring the iPhone 11 to 3rd party retailers in September but I can't see why they'd want to waste the investment on a phone that would have the same A13 CPU as the SE 4.7".

I don’t think it will be noticeable in terms of speed but battery life may be another discussion

my 11 Pro is to my X in day to day use and UI
But the battery life is much improved

the A11 is more than enough power to open up mail, messages, safari etc and few games struggle on the A9 or A10; A11 is improved from both of those and nothing pushes it. if the cooling was better, it could handle 60fps in games like Asphalt 9 (per developers)

I wouldn’t think such a small iPhone would even be popular as now days everyone has gotten used to bigger phones, a SE screen is so small

but the SE screen is 4”, this SE (2020) is 4.7” like the iPhone 8

With all that's been going on in the world lately, it would take some serious cojones to release a new phone, seeing as people are losing their jobs left, right and center....ending up in the hospital or worse. We are in the midst of the worst global catastrophe of our lifetimes, I think launching a new iPhone at this current time would be seen as poor taste.

Apple may be better served to hold off for a least a couple more months (July, perhaps?).

Android manufacturers who have a lot more to lose than Apple ever will, had no problem innovating this year and releasing flagships left and right. Surely a company like Apple can do something similar and more.

It’s a stealth phone though...no 3 camera lenses, looks like an iPhone 8 so not ostentatious.

I doubt Friday would be the official launch for this phone. Typically Apple likes to follow on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, Friday leading into the weekend would be a strange marketing tactic, but then again, I think everything is thrown off right now due to the pandemic. We’ll see here shortly.

They recently released new iPad Pro’s and MacBooks and nobody had a problem with it.

That sentiment makes absolutely zero sense.

For $399, this thing will outsell the iPhone XR and 11. You’re getting great specs (in terms of Apple related products) for a low price. A lot of 6s, 7 and 8 users would want this device.

I think this could be a pretty good seller, especially in today's tough economic times. I will probably upgrade my son's 7 Plus to this phone as a high school graduation present (even though it looks like his actual graduation ceremony ain't gonna happen, unfortunately).

Respectfully, why would you do that? Will he notice any difference between the 2 phones?

I’d just give him the cash equivalent.

iPhone 7 + cash > iPhone 9.

I don't care when it comes out, but the sooner it does, the sooner reviews can go up, I can figure out battery life, the quality of the camera and if old cases (I've got 3 leather iPhone 8 cases sitting in my cart on Amazon) fit. If all of that happens, i'm 100% upgrading from my launch iPhone 6s+. A good 4 years of phone. I like the home button, and I just want smaller. Stoked if they do release it.

Agreed. This is the same company that is going to charge 350 bucks for a keyboard. They’d sell iPhones outside the Pope’s funeral if they could.

I’m more talking about the idea that people shouldn’t engage in commerce during a pandemic. We should all be alone, crying in our bedrooms for 6 months? If someone wants to buy a new phone, let them. Why is it anyone else’s business? The moral judgement is misplaced.

I’ve been wanting to buy a pair of shoes lately. Should I hold off on that until August out of respect for the pandemic? Makes no sense.

At the very least, watching YouTube reviews of these new products is a nice way to pass the time. Absolutely no reason to artificially keep a giant backlog of new products in warehouses.

Apple is said to be planning to call the new iPhone, which is expected to be priced somewhere around $399, the "iPhone SE" just like the 2016 iPhone SE, which was also positioned as a low-cost device.

The 2020 iPhone SE is expected to come in white, black, and PRODUCT(Red) color options, and Apple will offer 64, 128, and 256GB storage capacities.

Prior rumors have suggested that the low-cost 2020 iPhone SE will be identical to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 when it comes to design, featuring thick top and bottom bezels and a Touch ID Home button. It will have a single-lens rear camera, NFC support, and the same A13 chip that's in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.
So take iPhone 8...
  • subtract $50 ($449 to $399)
  • remove gold color option
  • add 256GB and red options
  • replace A11 processor with A13
Not particularly ambitious, but not bad. Here's hoping it would also get camera processing enhancements and wireless (gigabit LTE, Wi-Fi 6, ultra wideband, Express Cards with power reserve) from iPhone 11.

So $400 is low-cost? Wow.
It’s 2020, not 2010. You know darn well that’s considered low cost nowadays. Even Google’s budget device (3A/XL) runs around that price.

You’re not going to add the extra battery life? That’s huge deal for some.

“The new iPhone SE is expected to have the same design as the iPhone 8, although battery life should much improved with the removal of 3D Touch, a special feature on older iPhones.”

Depending on the price of the 256GB one, I may consider it from my iPhone 8. I really could use the band 12 support since I'm T-Mobile.
