vista... can do everything a mac can do and more.

With all due respect, just how well do you know OS X? Because I've been using Windows since 3.1, I can safely say I know the ins and outs of every OS since then (MS elitist for a while haha), and honestly my jaw was on the floor the first time a good mac user friend of mine showed me what he could do with OS X. Now I work at an Apple Store. I dunno, I still use both but... Apple has a right to be a bit cocky about their OS IMHO. Just my two cents.

p.s. I think the ads are a bit harsh but they definitely gave me a laugh.

Nice find. I like these commercials even though this is like a 2 year ad campaign. Whoever does these are really creative. By the way, who does the Apple ads anyway? Are the 'Get a Mac' and 'iPod+iTunes' ads made by the same people?

Yes it is the same agency that does all of them and has the "Apple" account... out in Los Angeles. TBWA/Chiat/Day.

Sorry, but what a pathetic post.
amazing - really? They're just the same crap Apple have been doing for years, it stopped being funny a while back, and no one in the world cares anymore.

HAHAHA! "No one in the world cares anymore" and you post THIS to a subject where people are posting how great the ads are.

It reminds me a a quote by Yogi Berra where he remarks on a place saying, "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

Personally, I find the ads funny and fresh. It's amazing to me how they can keep the string of ads entertaining while not changing the format.

This $300 million advertising budget for Vista is a bull. MS should have just keep their money this will turn into profit. All they got to do is lower their OS price so I can buy one for my Mac. It's the only way to encourage Windows users to upgrade as well as Mac users to buy Windows for their Mac. Hey Bill you have to visit macrumors regularly and read the forum.

wow that was pitiful

Seriously, an ad making fun of another company for advertising? Seriously. No really, seriously? Just when I thought Apple couldnt come up with anymore lame things to use against Microsoft they prove me wrong. Why dont they just stop while they still have fans?

I don't like Windows but this sort of ad is pretty stupid.

Sure. That's why 95% of the world's computer users still choose Windows ahead of OSX or Linux.

That's not true at all. It's not the end users that get to chose the OS. What is true is that the MIS managers (wonderful ironic title) choose Windows ahead of Apple because it is job security for themselves. With OSX their function would diminish radically.

However a new buying pattern has begun in that higher education students are choosing OSX and beginning to demand it at work. This is exactly how the Royal typewriter lost its dominance to IBM in the 1950s. IBM flooded the school market with typewriters and let it overtake the business market totally by the early 1970s. Royal was reduced to a tiny fraction of the market by then.

i guess it's heating up (apple v. m$) with the tv ads. it suits the current political landscape perfectly

Rawr! someone had a bad day at the office. ;) They are coming to their end of life but I have to admit I laughed out loud at the 2nd one.

I agree I think he was just told by Bill that he cannot go home so he has to post a comment here @macrumors telling them to defend Vista.

Funny, I was thinking maybe Apple should keep their advertising money and lower the insane margins on their computers so more people would buy them instead of getting a similair PC for around 30-40% less. The only company that seems to rip you off more when buying a computer is Sony, Apple must like 2nd place or something.

Agreed.

I bet it would be more effective then these dopey ads.

Super Duper Drive!

I think that Apple should divert their effort into installing a Blue ray into their laptops (sorry, notebooks).
It was pathetic to read Steve Jobs statement that it is too expensive to put a Blue ray into $1999 Mac, while my $1000 HP has one.

Well I guest your HP cost less to make. What's your configuration? I got my PS3 for $399 +$100 rebate. People buy mac not because they want blue-ray, I rather have a super drive got that "SUPER DRIVE"!!!

Hilarious! Apple gets the best of Microsoft again!

But now "PC" fully represents Microsoft (like we didn't already know). Up until now, he has been representing all non-Mac PCs, in theory.

Uh, no, he has been an xp and now a vista PC for quite some time. Have you actually watched the ads?

 <-- doesn't quite convey my amusement

Sadly -- though not surprisingly, around here -- I fear that your superior, snarky tone is inversely proportional to your understanding of the point. Perhaps bold will help comprehension:

1.) "PC guy" has always been a brandless, non-specific PC (piece of hardware) running Windows (branded system software).

2.) "PC guy" has never before actually been the Microsoft Corporation (company that sells stuff) specifically
(even though he has often been equated with Microsoft in the public's mind).

3.) Now, with the release of the Bean Counter ad, "PC guy" for the first time does not represent a product, but now literally represents Microsoft the company and how that specific company makes business and financial decisions.

I find this noteworthy and interesting. It means Apple is committing unequivocally to PC guy's heretofore "assumed" identity. It means Apple is being even more aggressive. It means Apple marketing has directly responded to rival marketing... for the first time... ever.

Let's keep the depth of the thinking at least equal to the depth of the sarcasm, shall we folks?:p:p:p

I'm talking about OS not hardware. I'm willing spend premium for a much better looking machine. How about Vista I cannot justify paying $300 for a crappy OS. I'm talking about what's that? Ultimate Edition?
.......Don't forget the overpriced HP Envy too.

What would you use in Ultimate that you cant get in Home Premium for $100? If you are going to count Ultimate then why not count OS X Server which is $400? Its just as useless to the home user as Ultimate is.

I think PC's personification directly follows the established story line. PC has always "created initiatives" to promote himself.

PC has in the past:
Written help books.
Made a sales pitch.
Hired a PR person.
Advertised calming teas.

PC budgeting to solve Vista's lackluster user satisfaction problem is entirely inline with the campaign thus far. Sure it's very clear that Apple is mocking Microsoft, but it is, as always, still PC trying to stay competitive vs Mac. Underneath, it's always been about Microsoft - you can't argue that PC has ever been Linux. PC has not become Microsoft, he's still a personified PC trying to stay alive.

Actually the MacBook was perfect for me until it was discovered there was no FireWire. Price has nothing to do with my decision to not get a MacBook Pro. I prefer the smaller form factor.

Then buy the white MacBook. It's small and has FW. Just because you can't get FW on every laptop model is no reason to get constipated.

glass houses

Next ad should be, "I'm a Mac and I made the last Microsoft commercial".

This would be cool - since Netcraft reports that me.com is running on Windows Server systems. Oh yes, and apple.com seems to be a Solaris shop.

I would assume that, even though he's been behaving very erratically of late, the Lord God Jobs wouldn't want to go down that path and open those buckets of worms.
