Hey guys and girls,

First post ever for me, so I'll try to add something to the discussion. Don't you think on this page:
http://www.apple.com/getamac/
, the MacBook will fit perfectly at the bottom right to fill the blank space? Can't wait for tomorrow :)

As far as the ads are concerned, I really liked the Network and the Restart ones, I thought the others were average. But better this than nothing !

I found it rather ironic that firefox and ie crashed a lot while trying to play those videos.

Yes, I have a pc. But it's quicktime's fault! :(

Rage!!!!

Enough of this feel good happy-happy stuff!

I want a commercial with some teeth! I want Dennis Leary, Carlos Mencia or Lewis Black to do a commercial about Apple computers.

.Mac gets a 1,000 Gigs (tera) a month so I doubt he will get in trouble.

Not true I started getting bandwidth notices for the first time the 17th of this month. Basic account 100.00 1GB Storage 10GB Bandwidth. $150 2GB Storage 25GB bandwidth $200.00 4GB Storage 250GB bandwidth. The good old days are over.

Maybe the next ad should have Steve Jobs looking into the camera and saying "I dare anyone to write a virus for Mac OS X! In fact, I double-dare you!"

So true. It's pretty damn inviting if ever I say.

VanNess you simply can't show OS X in an ad. It would bore people, and not appeal to the masses, look at the Windows ads - they talk about Windows running everything, but do they show Windows - no. The place for showing off OS X is in the Apple store. Advertisers know what they're doing, as much as Mac Users think that the general public is going to be drawn in by showing Dashboard/Expose etc., those things cannot be adequately explained/shown in a 30 second ad.

Stock

Hopefully a lot of the ads are being seen by wall street and the apple stock will re-gain from its -1.12% fall today. Anyone think anything else?

Yes, of course its Quicktime's fault! An Apple video on an Apple website being played on a viewer made by Apple yet somehow its Quicktimes problem. You bet makes perfect sense to me, it couldn't be a Firefox or Windows BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THOSE ARE PERFECT!!!!!!!! :rolleyes:

I really think that Tiger's features would be a very interesting commercial, as much as most people don't think so. The ripple effect in Dashboard is quite eye catching and just some various other screens of Mac OS X in action cutting to a tiger swallowing the computer. Then just have "Mac OS X leaves Windows XP in the dust" displayed across the screen infront of the X symbol on the OS X boxes. I think it'd be kind of neat, but probably would appeal to a very limited audience.

Oh God. I would crap myself. That would be so awesome.

Space = clean.

Clean = good.
True, but this is too much dead space. A big clean picture like they normally use would be fine. Even a large video or a reconfiguration of the front page would be fine. I'd prefer to see the most pertinent information on the front page without having to scroll. I'll have to get a thread going at some point on Apple's web site design and how it is going the opposite direction of improvement.

Pretty good.

The first Mac OS X virii may appear from the commercial. But:
1. Given the size of the current Mac population the impact would be small and wouldn't spread far
2. Once the first virus comes the incentive dies down dramatically to write new viruses.
3. The number is still much lower than Windows. :)

I think the commersials hit exactly the points that will make PC customers interested and upon their ears. iPod and iTunes, Virii etc.

I did a double take when I skimmed the thread and saw how you started your post. Then I realized you were naming ads, not telling us your taste in computer activities! :eek:

If they're going to play the virus card, Apple should set up some Javascript on their website to update that "114,000 Viruses" counter every few seconds.

These are OUTSTANDING commercials. Lots of information, but it's not spoon-fed. They also aren't mean-spirited (something Apple has had a problem with in the past). The PC and Mac have a friendly relationship in the ads, but the PC is just a bit stuffier and has just a few more issues. I think people are going to respond very well to these.

That is my concern about the ads I saw tonight. Every hacker is going out tomorrow to by a Mac mini and try to make our live hell. :eek:

I strongly disagree. OS X is perfectly suited for ads, and the features I mentioned are animated and thus ideal to show off on TV. By the looks of the present set of commercials, I'm sure the agency that put these together are targeting a specific demographic, but I don't think it really works that effectively on that level for hawking computers, and, by extension, the OS. Jeans, maybe, but not something like this. Even the iPod ads, which I thought were well done, literally highlighted the iPod.

Since we are talking about advertising, which would you rather see? This Time magazine ad? Or that same ad in action?
