I like the digital camerafrom Japan. :p

Kinda reminds me IBM's campaign for the thinkpads: not too technical but gets the message along. Of course, we who know more about Macs than the target group of these adds prefer the ads glorifying the hardware and making us drool everytime we see them. But we aleady are custumers.

This campaign should work well on switchers. Hope there won't be too many people calling me asking "is it true you don't restart your Mac? Can you show me that? etc..." ;)

Go Apple. How about showing a new MacBook at the end?

Give it a month and these ads will be parodied.

That is a GOOD thing! Free advertising.

People will talk about these ads. Talking is always good in the ad world. Its actually very difficult to write an ad that inspires people to make their own version.

I realized that there's a row of blank space under the 6 thumbnails of ads... there might be more coming...

And copied to death, just like the translucent plastic of the original iMac was. Before the end of the year, every second ad will look like these.

I liked that they mentioned MS Office in two of them. That's what potential Joe Average switchers really want to hear.

Awesome ads

This is insanely awesome... I mean AAAWWWWSOME!!! I simply love it!!!

Seems like a mistake...

The way I interpret this, I don't think this is so great. From the beginning, portraying the Mac as smooth and laid-back I have no problem with, but this has absolutely no appeal to businesses or businessmen/businesswomen. Yeah, they squeezed MS Office plugs in there, but the guy in the suit isn't such a great move. Plus, the whole set taken together seem like an immature attempt at an insult, rather than an attractive appeal to potential consumers. Just my two cents. Plus, they don't have the kick that iPod+iTunes commercials do.

I didn't read through all the various postings about this, but you are right ... there is some kind of resemblance there!

These adds were hilarious and definately worth waiting all this time for, but I have to admit I'm a little nervous about the virus add - sounds like we are asking for trouble.

crashing

Everytime I try to watch the ads on my MBP 2.0Ghz Safari shuts down:(

That is not good.

EDIT: But Firefox works just fine... very funny ads, I like em!

Since everyone is giving a review, I'll jump on.

When Steve Jobs was brought back onto the board in 97 and he spoke at Macworld, he said that we need to give up the idea that in order for Apple to win Microsoft has to lose. He implored people to get over themselves when they booed at Microsoft bailing Apple out.

Now, these ads don't go after Microsoft but rather "PCs." But the same element of duplicity is here. I don't like it.

Apple should focus on positive messages, parlaying the popularity and hipness of iPod to Mac.

Plus, the ads have too many words. The iPod ads worked because there are no words. Cool people don't need to say it: show it. Show the energy.

A big yes to this. Apple wasn't so hip with this one, that's for sure.

Clarification

I'm happy to see that after reading the "getmac" site, Apple clarifies what it means by no viruses and continues to bash Windows (always fun to read at Apple.com). If I wasn't already a Mac user I would be now!!!

To me, this means that Apple plans on making sure they keep security as a selling point. That's a good thing. Yeah, it might be baiting the virus writers out there a bit, but if Apple wants to continue claiming a security advantage they'll need to stay vigilant. That's good for us.

I recently discovered the other browser Opera from another member's post here. I love it. I'm using Beta 9 and you can resume all the pages you have opened the next time you launch it. Plus it is really fast. Try it, you'll like it. :D

Mac CAN Do Business Better Than PC

I liked all of the new campaign ads I saw over at Apple's website, except for "better". The comment about "look what a PC can do with a spreadsheet". Pardon me, but I do quite a bit in Excel on my powerbook, and I find it easier than Excel on my work PC. I understand that they're trying to contrast 'fun' with 'boring', but I think they may have chosen a poor example in this case.
I noticed that too. They seem to be saying the Mac can't do business as well as a PC which is TOTALLY FALSE advertising. :D

My computer at work doesn't have quicktime so I have to wait ages until I can watch the ads at home!!

Still, they sound great from the transcripts.

I'm not so sure it's wise to play the no-viruses card, especially since there was one piece of malware just a couple of months ago that a normal user would consider to be a virus.

It is a challenge that has been thrown down to the hackers, a very risky strategy!!

macbook

they are probably creating hype for the macbook. which they should be releasing already. i think everyone is waiting for that product. apple, release it already!

Why do people keep insisting this is a death wish upon Apple for viruses. Everytime I hear Macs and viruses in the same sentence, it's always in the form of "now they are really going to write a virus" or "now that we are getting bigger we might be a target." I have heard the same thing for the past 5 years, nothing ever changes. Do people not see that we have been touting being virus free since I can last remember. Don't you think at least one hacker out there has decided to be the one to create the first malicious Mac virus that would make our jaw drop. I would bet someone has. It's not because we are a small user base. It is part of it, but not as much as security in my opinion. I feel that coming out with a real virus for the Mac would make more headlines these days than a bad virus on the Windows side. We haven't had viruses for the past 6 years with OS X and I don't see anything changing much for the near future.

As for the commercials, I find them to be excellent. Apple doesn't need to show off OS X and have commercials with Dashboard widgets and the genie effect of the dock. Apple needs to hit the consumers where they can most relate and that is the operating system. Every feature that Apple hit in these commericials are probably the most common reasons people come looking into switching. People don't come to me looking for a Mac cause they heard of some Dashboard widgets or Spotlight. They come looking cause they heard they don't crash, don't have any viruses, easier to use and that they just plain work. Once you have them hooked on the essentials, Dashboard, Spotlight and iLife are just icing on the cake and make the computer that much easier to sell.

Congrats Apple on the new ad campaign and I have a strong feeling that you guys knew exactly what you were doing when you made these commercials.

That's right. I think the obscurity angle is just bull. The way these virus kiddies operate like gaming clans, the first successful Mac virus is like the crown jewel to these jerks. The ultimate bragging right. I would bet that many attempts have been made, all met with failure.

But businesses aren't going to switch en masse to the Mac. There's too much cash tied up in legacy PCs and systems for them to do so; not to mention IT departments who know how to keep Windows clean.

The consumer market is much easier to go after and start switching. Get a few CEOs using Macs at home (which is why they're mentioning Office and Boot Camp for occasional use) and there's more chance of getting a few Macs in a business environment gradually.

Ok, let's start a contest for a working OSX virus. Let's do it like the XP on Mac contest: I put on a site where people can donate and whoever hands in a working virus gets the dough. We can thereafter sue all the doners for supporting writing a virus! :p And we could be the only ones having an anti-virus for that specific one. :D :p

Come on, let's do it!

PS: I'll be the cash-keeper ok? <checking how many quads are in stock in my local store> :p :p :p
