I strongly disagree. OS X is perfectly suited for ads, and the features I mentioned are animated and thus ideal to show off on TV. By the looks of the present set of commercials, I'm sure the agency that put these together are targeting a specific demographic, but I don't think it really works that effectively on that level for hawking computers, and, by extension, the OS. Jeans, maybe, but not something like this. Even the iPod ads, which I thought were well done, literally highlighted the iPod.
This is why you don't work in advertising.

If Mac OS X is hack able surly some bored Mac hate would have made one. While Mac OS X does have less of the market, it still is a market, and people try uses that. If a Mac OS X virus could be made it would, because most Mac would have nothing to fight it, as few OS X users use Virus Protection. It would be a smash hit, and completly wipe out tons of Mac OS X users
Thing is a trivial exploit was around several months ago(http://secunia.com/advisories/18963/) BUT no malicious exploit made use of this serious flaw. No root password is required to automatically mail the same thing or a link to the script, nor is it required to damage large numbers of a users files and both of these are within the reach of someone with a few hours scripting experience. But of all the script kiddies out there wanting to make a mark by damaging the Mac platform, nobody has.

There is no doubt that the opportunities are available and exploitable. For whatever reason, people just don't.

To be honest, they are plain, boring and a bit too confusing. PC??? Who ever talks about PC-->Windows. That connection is missing. It is targeted towards the 20 somethings who are in school and in debt.

Lame-O.

I was showing the adds to friends at work and this happened, as they say, a pictures worth a thousand words.

These new ads are brillaint. Funny, playful, and more original than any other computer ad I've seen lately. Does a good job of showing PCs and Macs co-existing peacefully, even if the Mac does have the upper hand.

i kinda like em, but...

...they might just be a little too "unflashy" for the masses. they could maybe do well at macworld, but for the masses....well, i dunno.

i've liked ipod ads the most of all apple ads. ipod ads are totally dynamic, with lots of movement and just seem more exciting. maybe the company that makes ipod ads should make some for macs. if i were in charge of ads, i'd say, "gimme something with a little more....ooomph! make me excited about the new mac! show me what it can do...why i need it...how it can become a part of my family.... don't just let it sit there with a static screen. make it come alive! don't tell me about features. show me!!" :D

I agree that these ads are good.
The tone is not at all confrontational, they're not offensive to PC users.
The young Steve Jobs even gives Bill a compliment by saying he's a wiz with spread sheets. It's important that the Mac is so even tempered and friendly.
There is no air of superiority which would really have turned people off.
5 stars.

Ya, twice

I saw 2 different ones, on 2 different networks, i saw the ilife one during two and a half men on CBS. and the virus one during 7th heaven on the WB

They're clever, i like them

The two people in the ad represent a young Steve Jobs and a young Steve Balmer, looking through old pics of them, i realized that they do resemble the two actors

If u r having troubles watching ads from apple with Qtime crashing - It is on my PC anyway (wife has kicked me of the mac for the night so she can do up photo dvd's of the kids for the rellies) try pausing it as soon as it appears - let it fully download then play it - worked for me (after about 15 goes) is this a windows only issue or is it happening on mac too?. If it is - not a very good start guys :) or am i the only one?

Matt :)

To elaborate on my previous comment of these ads being crap, Apple continually fails to understand that you attract more flies with sugar than with vinegar. Corny but true. Their adds are historically of a negative and attacking nature, instead of extoling the positives of the Mac and OS X, and all it does is perpetuate the stereotype of the insolent Mac zealot. Not to mention the ads are simply boring. With a company as innovative and creative as Apple, you'd think they'd be able to work with their advertising firms on something a little more spunky. My $0.02.

Maybe the next ad should have Steve Jobs looking into the camera and saying "I dare anyone to write a virus for Mac OS X! In fact, I double-dare you!"
Seems like a lot of PC users are saying that when the Mac gets a larger market share they will have the same number of virus as a PC. And then go on to claim that the only reason Macs currently do not have virus is because Apple has such a small market share.

...most don't even have a clue about Unix either...

Those ads are great! Apple took a way to explain the differences between pcs and macs without having to show screenshots which would just confuse the common everday pc user.

The next ad needs to have 6 versions of the old man, each with some piece of work that they can't do. Vista will ship with 6 versions each with different built in functionality. Apple has one OS/X.

Someone needs to start pointing out that Windows users are going to keep shelling out for upgrades to their OS when they discover some bit of functionality that they didn't think they need, they now will.

dammit i sat through an hour of friends, half an hour of steinfeld, and prison break (i didn't mind prison break) and i didn't see any of them once.

I think they afe pretty neat. Right to the point, and in a commical, make me wanna see the whole thing kind of way.

Just glad to see some sort of ads for Apple other than iPod.
