Here’s hoping they go with the Mac Pro form factor! I want to be able to buy third party computer wraps that will make the thing look like a soda can. :D

Yeah, because you can fit in a box THAT small a decent DESKTOP quad core cpu.

Way to miss my point, I specifically said I'd rather see them make the case NOT that small since it is so limiting for performance.

It ain't a laptop, why make it so much like one?

The CPU hasn't been the bottleneck the past 15+ years...it's been the hard drive performance.

Totally depends on the application. SSD is great but certain things do require more CPU and a faster drive won't substitute for that.

Yup, that's it. You've zeroed in on the most relevant phrase in the article.

After two other sites repeat the rumor, then it can be called "widely reported".

:)

At the least it's bait for analysis.
Let's just wait for the "Nope"

Part of me wants to yell "finally!!", but then reality hits : if it does hit the market in October, it's with new-old-newagain Haswell chips.

As the post says tho, the Mini typically follows the same hardware as the 13-inch MBP; nothing is set in stone, but given how the MBP is already using the refreshed Haswell chips, so would the mini.

No point in announcing a Broadwell mini 3 months in advance (aka Mac Pro-type of announcement), it's not a high-profile product by any stretch.

Well I'll be damned, they called me crazy "There will be no new mac mini in 2014" they said, well look at this!

We could blame it on Intel for delaying Broadwell twice, but it still begs the question as to whether it would make sense to release a Haswell mini 2-3 months before Broadwell-M chips come out.

On the other hand, the Mini isn't a cutting-edge product, Haswell is perfectly fine for it - so bring it on.

I have 2x1.5TBs in mine. If they mess up that possibility (like with requiring a 2nd mortgage to pay for SSDs) I'll be pissed.

Too bad I couldn't wait any longer and tried to build a hackintosh. Didn't go so well, motherboard is falling.

About time Doug! Been waiting quite a while to buy my new Mac mini to replace the one I bought in 2008!

I mean, I'm as excited as the next guy for new Mac Minis and iPods during this next event, but its more and more seeming like the last event, where there were rumors that Apple would update pretty much all of its products...but it didn't happen :(

I am not good at making decisions, the last Mac i bought was a late 2009 Mac Mini, so an update would be welcomed. It can't do full HD and YouTube clips in good quality are not running smooth. I really am gagging for an updated Mini, and there are few alternatives. Not keen on the all in one iMac, and have no real excuse to buy a Mac Pro.

...now packed all into a screenless iPhone 6+ housing.

I LOL'd at first... then reality set in and they are making everything smaller.

Could the Mac mini actually get smaller than it's current form? Not phone size of course, but seriously, shrink the footprint?

I hope it retains a similar footprint.
