Anyways, Apple should have a 15" Macbook Pro and a 17" Macbook Pro, and they should have two flavors of Macbooks as well, or you know what, maybe even just ONE flavor and have a feature or two with BTO options.
Agreed. I can see 3 models, however, if the third model had distinguishing features like a higher resolution and a discrete GPU, or a cheap model with a low resolution and a Combo Drive. But in the area the MacBooks are in now, I think two models are enough.

the first time i really feel that they are coming...:p

I'm wondering if this "Future Shop" is using a MBP with the screen yellowing issues??? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, it does seem fairly obvious that we are seeing like for like replacements. That is, 3 new MB's and 3 new MBP's.
I'm thinking that the bottom end MB will likely become Apple's netbook. Not sure what will happen to the MB air if this is the case though...
Oh, and I don't think it is the end for optical drives just yet.

really is there a point for them to come with drives anymore. I mean who uses the drives enough to warrant the weight and extra cost.

Considering the weight and cost are both negligible? Uh... me?

I don't know how much you think these drives weigh and cost, but I can tell you the answer is "almost nothing compared to the rest of the computer" on both fronts.

That being said, even extremely seldom usage of the drive makes it "worth it".

Woot:D! I've been waiting for the new MBPs for some time now. These next few weeks are going to be terrible waiting for the updates. I can't wait! Bring it on :apple:!

i really hope it's new iMacs with acceptable screens, so when i send my $2000+ iMac in to have it's $15 screen replaced, they'll actually replace it with one that's actually acceptable...

Must admit im a little worried about the updates. I was hoping for a redesign to the macbook and macbook pro but apple seems to spend all its time on the iPhone now. I hope they can pull off 2 new redesigns and a bump in specs. I mean the lets rock event was hardly ground breaking was it and apple said themselves it was gonna be a big deal....

All are MacBooks

13" - $899 - $1099 - two SKUs good and best
15" - $1299 - $1599 - two SKUs good and best
17" - $1599 - $1999 - two SKUs good and best

long time AI poster, first post here hehehe :D

lately lots of activity here than AI :)

Why would this Future Shop website get information like that? How credible can this really be?

Most rumors lately have been accurate. There are people that sift through everything these days. I hang out with the guy that empties Steve's trash into the garbage truck and dig through his trash. I don't care if it is shredded or not.

The last Apple event wasn't exciting because everybody already knew. Apple can't buy a batch of anything in quantity without people finding out these days. 6 new products would hardly be shocking.

Does Bestbuy honor the student discounts that apple offers or no? I want to get 0% financing on a new MB.

I am a student and will be purchasing my first mac..YAY!! I am getting a MBP and decided to wait until Oct 14th although its killing me! I was just wondering with all this hype, is it likely they will sell out? I mean I can't wait a day longer for this. I have already been waiting 2 months since I saved up enough money.

Does anyone think the $2000 MBP will see a price adjustment?

Six...

Bye bye the new Air... *weeps*

Let us hope it'll be before Christmas at least, though I'm beginning to doubt it...
It's interesting how there is no sign of the MacBook Air in this recent AppleInsider rumor.

Not for me. Since I rarely use the optical drive, I would rather have a smaller and lighter notebook with an external optical drive than a notebook with a built-in one. I would also prefer at least some of the space the optical drive takes up (which you must admit is significant) to be used for, shall I say, more useful and important features like a bigger battery, a second HD, extra RAM slots (if possible), and a better GPU.

I don't even know what "placeholder" means but after reading these happy comments I believe it's a kind of an indicator of upcoming Macbooks.

So do we assume an event and availability on 14th? Will the event now be on 7th with a week before stock arrival? What about pre-orders?

I need to know! Now!!

Blimey, I've been waiting so long I can't quite believe we're nearly there!

Think of it like a reservation. That is reserving a space in a database for a new product.

No, Best Buy doesn't honor Apple's student discount. You need to purchase directly from Apple in order to get the student discount.

Somehow I can't imagine these new Macs being eligible under the T&Cs of the UK Back To School offer..

Here's to hoping that Apple makes the SuperDrive a standard on all MacBooks; ComboDrives are incredibly prohibitive and backward in today's day.

How about a Blu-Ray drive at least as a BTO option? It's getting kind of embarrassing now. What shall we call it? SuperDrive Extreme? SuperDrive Blu?

New products are never eligible for the promotions as far as I know. It would be sort of stupid if they were. From what I can tell the back to school offer clears the shelves and when they get enough supply of waste parts then the Imini gets an update.
