Just had a bad thought, Steve wanted to bring the macbooks more in line with the new nanos so now we have 6 new macbooks in rainbow colours with a view that they would sell more if accompanied by the same coloured iPod.!!! :p

Why do you want 16:9 screens anyway? What advantage do they offer over 16:10?

Post from a thread:
Wider so no "black bars" when watching 16:9 movies
Wider so easier to display two things side-by-side
Cheaper panels
High-res 13.1" 1600·900 panel has no 13" 16:10 equivalent
Can fit a full-size keyboard in a smaller display size
16", 18.4", and 21" displays are physically wider than 15", 17", and 20" 16:10 displays for similar heights

Well, you see, 9 is a smaller number than 10. If Steve has brainwashed us into believing, er... taught us anything, it's that smaller is always better.

I think the product transition was supposed to be the cheaper nanos (4/8GB for 129/149) but because of the 16GB zune causing Apple to put out the 16GB nano, and removing the low margin 4GB 129 nano, its not an issue anymore.

SKU = unique identifier for a product, so they scan the barcode and then know what object to charge you for.

but remember 16Gb iPod nano was a last minute descision by apple (to counter Zune) but COO told Product Transition and 30% margin drop during quartely conference call which was way before they know Zune Prices ...

Well, everybody is talking about the 6 SKU's, and I say it would not be an Air. Others think 2MB's 1MBA and 3MBP's, but I don't think so.

And a 15" MacBook, well a lot of people want that, 13 or 15...

They probably wouldn't issue new SKUs for spec changed to the MBA, so it may well be getting an update in addition to the redesigned MB and MBP lines.

Not everyone wants/ needs an optical drive on their laptop. Just saying. The MBA isn't going anywhere.

For some reason I see the MBA as the new G4 Cube. Very cool, nice design, not much in the way of upgrading (but still cool). It holds up well but may fade soon.

agree as well.

i think they are going to get rid of the mid-level white and make it 1 white and 1 black MB. so that gives:

1 MB Air
1 White MB
1 Black MB
3 MB Pro's

makes the most sense to me anyway...

trying to sell my old Black MB and will be picking up a Pro most definitely. cannot wait!

What happened to aluminium MacBook rumor?

Because it's popular and some people have to get everything that is?

I'm not happy about it, but I must agree there's only very slim chance for a new Air.

And since when does it matter to Apple what people want? I say there is no reason for them to do it. Their notebook line is clear: Air is for Portability, Pro is for Power, and just MacBook is for Price. If you want bigger screen, you have to pay them at least $500 more for a Pro...

Too late Apple.

I would have bought one in June. I would have bought one in July. I would have bought one in August. But with the uncertainty in the economy, I'm now concerned enough about my income that I'm hunkering down and not spending until there's a light at the end of the tunnel (and I hope to heck it's not a train).

I'll eventually upgrade, but you probably lost Q4 revenue.

Maybe for you my friend but the majority of Apples computer sales are geared to the wealthy consumer. Not the guy trying to get by.

i wasnt making any references to specific upgrades because those are so up in the air its not even worth speculating.

but yea, the aluminum MB rumors has been around since early this year and will probably see the light of day.

i was just trying to think of the most logical configuration that will add up to the reported 6-new SKU's

Seems it's only available in the UK for consumers. CA-US-Most of europe, it's only for institutions.

No it's not. You are wrong again.

And I keep what I said: if you absolutely need financing for a reasonably-priced computer, you're already in big trouble and should spend more time on stabilizing your finances before consuming more.

Am I in a free country? Not quite, but mostly. I pity you for not being in one.

No need for pity, since I'm also in a free-ish country. IMO financial advice is best left to a different thread/forum. Just my opinion.

My guess: 3 Air, 3 MB.

Or 2 Air, 4 MB.

Either way, no MBP, only on the next MacWorld.

doubt it as well.

makes no sense to only update a fraction of a product line.

they updated ALL their iphones in July, ALL of their ipods in September... so why would they not update ALL of their notebooks

then again they did do that other times.... bah predicting Apple is like predicting the weather!!!

They still have an old, discounted model of MBP there. Not real possibility. With different specs, it'll be a different product.

Apple apparently suffered from fading consumer confidence, although less than other companies. That's because many of their customers are switching to cheaper models, but they aren't losing many of them. I think because of this Apple may continue with "one size fits all" idea introduced with new iPod Classic. It's way more cost-effective for them to be offering less products, but making them so everyone is at least content with them, rather than making more products to keep different groups happy. I'd say less models, more similarities between them is Apple's way to go through this slowdown (unless it gets so bad it doesn't help).

So Apple wouldn't have new SKUs for spec bumps? As much as Im waiting for the new macbooks and want them to be completely redesigned, Im expecting the worse, just a spec increase.

I would rather expect a spec bump and get awesome all new laptops then expect redesigned laptops and just get a spec bump...I would be so annoyed by that.

I'm a PC and will be switching as soon as the new MBs are out.

My question: once they're announced, are they immediately available on Apple.com? What kind of delays are involved with buying the day it comes out?

Thanks!

You are giving me hope... :)

I see no way for MB to be upgraded without MBP. High-end MB is already very similar (CPU, standard RAM) to a MBP. Any upgrade would mean that for a while cheaper MacBooks will have better specs than more expensive MacBook Pros. Not happening.
