SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS and you get a 256GB hard drive. I hate how they price their storage.
Which is why you buy and install your own storage. I have an old old old Mac Pro and I am going to just relocate the storage over to a new Mac Pro (when available). I am sure someone will sell the bracket kit to fit it into the new Mac.

Correct, this isn't for 99% of the people on this website. This is for companies that need major firepower for editing etc. Of course there will still be those regular users who claim they really have to have it. So they'll toss cash at it which is also what Apple banks on.

This is so people shut up that Apple doesn't care about pro users.

If you love cars, and you want a 2020 Chevy Corvette that cost $65000 you buy it. Is it your home to work daily grind car no. But you can drive it back and forth to work if you want and you can take it to the race track and go fast to your heart content if you want. That is the beauty of america!!!!!!

Is this an attempt to be funny?

The machine is a beast and very capable. If you can't afford it, my advice is to make more money.
Not the $6000 base model. It can be built for under $2000. My editing laptop has a faster processor, same RAM, more PCIe SSD storage, and a faster GPU, and it cost under $2000 with upgrades. This machine will be a waste unless you load it up, which will cost way more than any other comparable machine you can buy. Macs are not magic, they use parts that anyone can buy, including other manufacturers.

My advice is if you don't need a Mac Pro, don't buy one. Has nothing to do with how much money anyone does or does not make.
Sure it does. The biggest complaint is the expense. If you want it, you may not be able to afford it.

Agree...At that price, Apple must have done their homework to turn a profit!

I plan to buy one. I have a 2008 Mac tower and have been waiting for a number of years to upgrade. Never thought the trash can Mac was an option I. So needless to say I have been saving! Will spend $15-$17K. My previous Mac Tower served me well for 11 years... If ya amortize the cost over 11 years it was a pretty cheap computer that just delivered day after day... So spending $17K for a computer may seem like a lot but if you look at a 11-15 year timeframe it isn’t a bad “INVESTMENT” CAN’T WAIT!!

Personally I am definitely interested. But the cost for a high end model is making me decide to wait. In the meantime, I got the "trash can" Pro (12-core version) for the time being.. hope it lasts till I can get this new one.

Can we say a Mac Mini Pro! If you want it tell Apple. I have said this would be great. It reminds me of the people who would complain about old mac software they wanted a feature for the OS or a Mac Application but would never tell Apple. Do you think they are mind readers and know what everyone might want? That is why Apple has feed back pages. Three year ago people complained about the Mac Pro cylinder and how they wanted self expansion and like magic it is here.

So tell Apple and not say if wish Apple would have this!!!!!!!!!!!!
only 3 years ago?

I'm interested as to how many people will buy these. They seem laser focused on the hollywood/pro video markets, especially considering the new display. Relatively limited market, even for Apple.

I would like Mac tower, but this is overkill for me, as a developer.

Apple has left us who just want reasonably priced tower desktop and do not want all in one - forgotten. Mac mini is not an option, it is very limited device that depends on external peripherals to be considered as serious.

So far, for us the only option is Hackintosh, for 1500-2000, we can build amazing machine. The question is: how long is that gonna last?

It might have been much better for Apple if they built desktop at somewhere 3000 starting price, they would have much more customers and profits that way.

Although I can afford it, I have my doubts. I'm into music production and several devices require direct USB-A connections; they don't work on a hub. So besides all connections apart from a single Thunderbolt filled on my Trashcan, I have 8 devices on my USB hub. I'm supposed to make due with a few Thunderbolt connections and assume that my devices requiring a direct USB connection will function on a hub?

Then you’re going to buy two Sonnet Technologies 4-port USB-A 3.1 PCIe cards for your Mac Pro or you can use any of the many USB-C ports that already exist on the Mac Pro and simply purchase the appropriate cables to connect to your audio devices. I’m not sure what is so hard about this? Your trying to create a problem where none exists. The 2010-2012 Mac Pro didn’t have 8 USB-A ports on it either, what would you have done if you owned one of those Macs?

They really could have included WiFi6 with this thing, it’s expensive enough already. Hope there will be some minor updates to the spec on release. 🤞

They could do.... but it does have dual 10 gigabit Ethernet jacks instead, and the market this will sell to uses Ethernet and not WiFi like big studios etc. But I agree it would be nice, I think the only Apple device with WiFi 6 is the iPhone 11 range.

The software isn't an afterthought though, that's the thing. You can't just compare other machines with the same parts and call them the same. Support and software are huge factors. It's the whole package.

Not for you? That's fine...but don't just disregard it as overpriced gasoline. This isn't gasoline.

Mission accomplished I’d say. I found it very funny and judging by the comparative number of upvotes at this stage it would seem I’m not alone.
Because there are tons of unfunny people that like to dig Apple here doesn't make it funny. My response has several upvotes too.

It definitely has value to me, just not value equal to its selling price. The world is not quite as black and white as it seems to you.
I'm the one bringing in shades of gray. You're the one being black and white.

Does anyone else think they will do a November event for the first time? October is already wasted.
I refuse to believe they will launch all those new products without an event.

If Apple want to reach the Christmas market then an early November event for the other rumoured products would be needed with immediate product release.

I suspect this Mac Pro will simply be released this week, with a quick update to the website where it is already listed.

Mine is going to cost me around $350 and that's with upgraded CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD (oh yes ... and wheels). How? I bought AAPL early on and that's what the shares needed to buy a beautiful, new loaded Mac Pro cost me originally.
