Spend $2,000+, probably $3,000+, on a new Mac Pro. So, now you want to add some extra storage? Each hard drive will cost an estimated extra $100 for that Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

She usually is very fast at transcribing exactly what the Apple folks are saying.

Finally, in a nod to one well-loved feature of the older Mac Pro, the new model also features a handle on top. In this case, the handle isn't just for lugging the unit around; it can be used to spin the new Mac Pro, revealing the ports on the back of the unit. These include Gigabit ethernet, HDMI out, audio, four USB3 jacks, and six Firewire 2 ports (driven by three separate controllers). The chassis also contains a motion sensor so that when it's revolved, the ports are illuminated for easier access.

I can't BELIVE IT - Finallay a real MAC PRO

SO my wait is OVER. Waiting since 2008 for this speed bump and here it is. For those naysayers, do you want your CROW ala-mode?
Ordering one the SECOND the store come back on line

AMDs when they have moved almost everything to NVIDIA? Why Apple? Why?

I was called away by something else during the announcement. Hopefully when the store comes back up again it will have the details I missed.

They said the same thing about the iPod. You guys will be crying when this puppy is released. For those of us with 4K displays (I've got 2) and a ton of Thunderbolt RAIDS, drives, and accessories such as myself, this is the perfect machine. 12 cores, 6 Thunderbolt 2.0 ports, 4 USB 3 ports and 2 GPUs, not to mention PCI-E storage, which beats the pants off your SATA drives, etc. This is what pros like me have been waiting for. Enjoy your 4 year old kits.

My current one is 7 years. :p I'm still a newbie with the Mac Pros. If they are 2K or less, I might get one. If more than that, I'll get the older kit.

I understand where you are coming from but

A mini is for you.

I've tried a Mini and do not want older, laptop tech in a desktop format. If the price is right, I may just buy this.

People have been telling me to get the tower for years now, and now that one has arrived that looks feasible to me, I may finally listen.

I can see where you are coming from, but if I'm going put any more $ into an Apple computer, I'd prefer longevity and power regardless of what I may or may not use it for.

Now if this sucker is $5,000 or higher out of the gate, then perhaps I will take your advice and look at a Mini then. :D

Not dual 12-core Xeons. 12-cores total, which likely means it is a 1 CPU unit with the option for a single E5-2600V2 12-core.

They also didn't say anything about Crossfire.

I thought they said dual AMD Fire Pro? How else they going to that? Independent would be such a waste. They also said something like "first time ever dual…". They have always offered 2 independent GPU's as CTO.

apple has finally left the building. WTF is that thing....

Stove Jobs is rolling on his grave.

Well yeah I'd hope it is there, but they didn't say anything about it. Sure someone will ask that and it'll get revealed in the next few days.

It's not going to be cheap with those vid cards, the ecc ram and the xeon 12's, but I feel like a lot of the whiners here will be blown away once we see how she runs. Otherwise we may have to separate the Mac Pro forums into the old and new schools since the opinions seem to be at opposite ends. I'm a fan of this new concept and I already have my TB storage drives ready to go so bring it on!!

It's FW800 'backwards compatible' , that's what the fellow said .

Hmmm, perhaps a bungled you can buy 6 FW dongles reference. Not sure what would be 'forward' of FW800 to be backward compatible with. Yes there is a faster FW out there, but no I highly doubt Apple picked it up (or any other PC vendor) as opposed to just selling more TB dongles.

He didn't say if it's compatible with your 100k camera gear, though ...

As long as don't need power and it is a dongle it probably works.

You think the GPU will be actually soldered on-board?

The case of that new mac pro is smaller than even my 6870 which isn't a big card.

It's soldered or you change the chip.

I think Apple think that TB2 solves all those expandability reductions.

For those who'll need CUDA:
Silverstone just released a Thunderbolt external GPU cage. Get two of them, get two Titans, and have fun.

Grrrr. It shows up in the product cycler after clicking on mac but takes you to the same old Mac Pro page.........finish updating your website Apple!!!!!!!!

Apple also said that Final Cut X was the best thing since sliced bread too. And we both know how that played out.

12 cores and two GPU's? :D Obama has a better chance at joining the Klan.

Enjoy your Mac Mini Pro.
