Look up Xeon Harpertown. Same price as Woodcrests today; die shrink (cooler, faster per clock), higher clock at same price, oh yeah, and quad cores. All for the same price as the Woodcrests cost. If Apple aims to maintain the base price of $2500, the hardware will be there to make that claim come Nov. 12

Cool, thanks

Dont worry.. Steve has our back. Whenever it comes out.. it is going to pwn.

I always love the way you think... The wait is almost over.

Apple likes the 2 or 3 X faster kind of thing for announcements.

When they announced the Mac Pro on August '06 it was 2X faster than the PM G5. My question is: Is there something out there to let Apple double the power of the actual machines?

Well obviously Apple wants to proclaim that the intel chips are faster than the G5 and that there is no reason to have a PowerPC anymore.

Unless Apple went with all Octo's, there won't be a significant speed boost with the next revision of the Mac Pro.

And Multimedia predicted the 13th (somebody asked)

Seriously, sorry to rain on everyone's parade but a major overhaul of the Mac Pro/Display lineup will not happen on a random Tuesday in the middle of november.

Says you.

It's not a "random" day in November. It happens to be the day that the Intel Harpertown Xeons are released, of which we know Apple has been stockpiling. Nothing random about it at all.

You all need to get a grip. The world won't end if nothing is announced next week.

You obviously haven't spent enough time in the Mac Pro forum.......

I'm hoping for (and half-expecting) an announcement next week. Baring a major case redesign (or new product line) Apple will treat this as a quite update (product upgrade) so there's no need for a major announcement.

New Mac Pro's on 11/13 (100% sure)

Guys,

Rumors, rumors, rumors.

There are endless speculations about new releases from Apple.

If I had a penny for each speculative thread that didn't pan out. I would be able to stuff myself, with Apple products, and upgrade constantly.

I also am waiting for the new Mac Pro, providing there's a new form factor,
etc.

But no one but Steve Jobs and perhaps a handful of other Apple employees, knows anything. And they never talk.

What's the name of this site again? Hardly inappropriate to speculate.

Apple Store

Well, if it helps fuel the fire anymore
my local Reno Apple Store has been under renovations
and they're set to re-open on Nov 13th

hmmmmm.....?

Yeah, next tuesday the 13th, after a few days of vacation I will beginn to work again. What do you think will this mean? New Mac Pro's and Cinema displays for sure!

Cheers,
Steve "Blow" Jobs

No Displays

I am not betting on new displays yet: I may be wrong, but my gut says no.

How tragic, you are in for two let downs in two weeks. First no Great Pumpkin and then no new Mac Pro ( yet ).

Sounds like a done deal

New MBP's before Xmas make perfect sense. Add to that the minimal
distinction now between the MBP and MB. They have to make the MBP's
better!

How tragic, you don't realize that Nov. 13th is 5 days away and not two weeks. I'll agree with you on the Great Pumpkin part though. That is tragic.

Uhh....... this is the Mac Pro forum, not Macbook Pro forum.

You can still find the ACD's with a search, but they are no longer featured on the front page of the store as they always were.

Actually it could be the 13th, 14th OR 15th - the NDA on the new ATI HD3850s lifts on the 15th. So if Apple wanted to release their new MPs with them (instead of say, the 8800GT), they might wait a day until the NDA is lifted to launch the new MP.

But thats just a possibility. IMO the 14th is still the most likely - plus there is a new Apple Store that is supposed to open on the 14th in Las Vegas IIRC. (I think its the 14th, or maybe the 16th)

No no no no no no no no NO!!

The HD3850 is ATI's product to compete with the nVidia 8600GT and replace the 2600XT. The HD3870 is supposed to compete with the 8800GT. The jury's out on both of those ATI cards, as no performance data has been leaked that I know of.

Apple needs to go nVidia for the Mac Pro. If they want to throw ATI a bone they can put the FireGL in there for the workstation variant. nVidia should occupy the spot for the x1900 replacement.
