I wonder if performance will be consistent across the lineup since they all use the same M1 chip, or if the MacBook Pro will have slightly better performance than the Air.

I originally wanted an iMac for my next Mac, but this makes upgrading my 2012 15” rMBP to a MacBook Air or a 13” MacBook Pro a more serious consideration.

That's like saying all i7 chips perform the same. Apple didn't state that these models used the same chip, only that they use M1 chips.

There's a strange lack of any information about clock speed. Do all 3 machines run at the same speed? If I was in the market for any of these, I'd be holding off for geekbench results.

Basically, $300 differences in MacBook Air and 13" MacBook Pro gains:
  • About 10% longer battery life
  • Fan for longer sustained peak performance
  • 100 nits brighter (400 vs 500)
  • Better speakers and microphones
  • Touch Bar
  • 8 GPU cores vs. 7 (8 GPU cores is available on higher-end MacBook Air)
If these things don't excite you, then save $300 or so and enjoy:
  • Fanless operation
  • About 10% lighter weight (2.8 lbs vs 3.0 lbs)
  • Superior wedge form factor
  • Physical function keys

It is interesting that Apple did not list the ghz speeds...
It looks like Apple will be differentiating by number of cores. The base MacBook Air has 7 GPU cores instead of 8.

Between air and pro, I guess the Pro will be able to sustain higher performance longer thanks to a fan.

It’s like A14 on iPhone vs iPad. Same chip, but the iPad can sustain higher performance longer. Seems to work well and no more misleading GHz numbers for consumers.

I wish the camera was at least updated, excited, and disappointed at the same time. Would wait for the redesign and for those thick bezels to be removed.

I'm tempted to order a base Macbook Air with 16gb ram to complement my 16" MBP. I'm in the market for a thin and light with great battery life as my ThinkPad is nearing it's end.

Just wondering if it's worth holding off until we see a few reviews?

Only 2 USB-C ports and they are all annoying on one side.
STILL ONLY A 720P FACETIME CAMERA?

Look, these Mac's impress me, but seriously Apple, having a USB-C port on each side makes it so much easier to charge and this would've been the perfect opportunity to have a major camera upgrade.

I'm still trying to understand the difference between the macbook pro and macbook air it is justifies getting a pro.

it seems like the pro 13 doesn't make alot sense compared to the air.

A fan so it can turbo all day, a much better screen and sound system, more battery life. But the main points are the screen and fan.

13" MBP used to have an option of 32GB. Mac Mini could be configured with up to 64GB.

Now they're both 16GB Max?????

They are totally useless to many professionals now. They've also reduced the number of ports.
Yeah I was excited about this but now I don't like the direction this is going.

Maybe less RAM will be fine like how the iPhone gets by with less RAM compared to Android just fine. But also the iPhone can't multitask like the Mac, so…

These CPU speeds are crazy but they've about ruined it with these limitations. Are the 16" MBP going to have integrated graphics too? What about the iMac and Mac Pro? We gonna have $50K Mac Pros with 64GB RAM caps? LOL.

The Air is the only device that looks reasonable to me right now, but that one only comes with 256GB SSD to start and has a 7-core GPU instead of the 8-core in the higher end model. But for what it is, 16GB RAM is probably fine for maxing it out, but then at that price, you might as well get the MacBook Pro.

The more I think about it, the more I don't like any of this. The CPUs on paper sound great, but everything else seems like a bit of a cluster. And there's not even a hardware redesign and the same old 720p cameras.

The dates for the MBP 16" are still showing the end of the month.
I wonder if a spec bump update comes tomorrow for that.

Big sur is coming out Nov 12 yet Final Cut Pro and logic pro X didn't receive an update to be be fully compatible with Big Sur, How is this possible?
I saw Final Cut and Logic with new icons on their website just now on the Macbook Pro 13 inch page but wheres the actual update?
