+ Air is impressive
+ transition has finally started to silicon, great!
- presentation had no context at all (like the benchmarks)
- 13'' pro is kinda useless (it should be separated by performance not by ports or battery life)
+/- no redesign, but that was anticipated since it doesn't make any sense for the entry products in the transition period
? wonder how not optimized apps will handle the limitation of 16gb of ram if the chip can't work his magic

joke of the day: they really believed someone who buys a mac mini also gets an XDR display 😂😂. So the 13'' is for a beta users and probably 16'' pro will be an improved version of it, followed by iMac

I've gotta wonder whether these 1st gen models are intentionally capped at 16GB RAM and other specs, so that all of the early adopters are prompted to buy again in a year when much better specs are released. 🤔

Why, were you expecting two leaps in a year? Next year a redesign is expected across the lineup.

We'll see next year, the chip looks promising but keynote lacked impact & feature diversity imo. Also, 8gb of ram in 2021? really? we have 16gb macbook pros throwing up "your system has run out of memory" popups all over the place on moderate pro apps use.

I guess it’s a start. High end is still Intel reliant for now. 720p FaceTime cameras, if I get one, it’d probably be the Air. I’m glad I bought my Intel i9 16” MBP last summer. It will probably be a few years before I jump over to Apple Silicon at the high end.

I’m a little bit disappointed..... I was hoping to get the “air tags”, new Apple TV, and overall better Macs (more than just the processor).... don’t get me wrong most likely I will buy this MBP-mine died few days ago. Also I was expecting a more affordable price, now that the M1 was produced by Apple, rather than having to buy something from Intel.

Only 2 USB-C ports and they are all annoying on one side.
STILL ONLY A 720P FACETIME CAMERA?

Look, these Mac's impress me, but seriously Apple, having a USB-C port on each side makes it so much easier to charge and this would've been the perfect opportunity to have a major camera upgrade.
Yes, bec the 13" MBP is the base one, that will replace the Intel 2 ports MBP 13"

7 core is that a typo ?

Very underwhelming. If you need more from the macs, it looks like you‘ll have to wait for at least a year.

What is the difference between the Macbook Air and Macbook Pro other than a larger battery in the Pro? Did I miss something?

Going to USB4 was a good idea

I was also impressed with the "11 TOPS" spec on the ML accelerator. By total coincidence, I got a text from Amazon just now that the Google/Coral ML accelerator I ordered will be delivered today. These do only 4 TOPS but are priced starting at $25. I can say that with 11 TOPS these Macs will be able to run some impressive models. But expect to wait. Developing this takes lots of work. In my assessment, this Mac Mini is about good enough to run a Tesla-style driver-assist system and keep a car in its lane.

But what is gained with the "pro" vs the "Air" other than battery size?

Also, don't get too excited about the performance. They just said "Faster than 98% of the notebook PCs on the market. This means one in fifty PC notebooks are faster. and presumably many desktop PCs are much faster. This is not yet a "high performance" Mac. That will have to wait for an M2 or M7 chip.

13" MBP used to have an option of 32GB. Mac Mini could be configured with up to 64GB.

Now they're both 16GB Max?????

They are totally useless to many professionals now. They've also reduced the number of ports.

Thinking this may be M1 limitation. Will need to wait for M1X or M2 for bigger memory support I guess... Or maybe more bus support for more ports.

Looking like the first gen product. Will improve and evolve.
