This will be a great computer for anyone that buys it. As for me, my M2 MBA still feels like new after 2.5 years of use.

Hopefully, we will see new functionality (e.g. built in modem) and a new form factor by the time I will need to replace this, but seems I'm good for at least another two years.

Just handed over my beloved M1 13" MBA to my college-bound daughter...found a deal on refurb M4 16" MBP...otherwise was waiting for the 15" MBA M4

M2Air here. I'd love to upgrade if they offer 32GB+ Ram and 2TB+ HD at a "reasonable" price, which is unlikely.

Will this be worth buying to replace my M1 Air that has zero issues? I'm still using my 2012 Air as my media server in my house.

I personally don't think I'll be buying anything in the near future. At least until the 17 Pro.
I use my macbook pro as my plex media server, its not "always on" though. Is your macbook air always on as a media server?

Will the price not be affected for these in the USA? Now there's an import tax on Chinese manufactured systems, aren't Apple going to have to pay it on every single Chinese item made? They're not going to take the 10% hit are they?

Price elasticity. If they increase prices 10%, how many less will they sell?

There have not been any rumors that pricing will go up, so only time will tell if there is a price increase. If they do have a price increase that will be the best kept secret for this refresh cycle.

It better not come out in a range of colors! Apple playbook:

Stage 1. Release crippled version of product eg under-clocked or decent specs punitively priced
Stage 2. Competitors have caught up so release un-crippled version of product and drop price
Stage 3. Try to stay ahead of competition by decreasing weight, or increasing
battery size, or incrementally upping the specs or acronym count - these refinements can
keep a weary old product selling for years. If this stage lasts a while make
earlier product releases incompatible with current software to 'encourage' upgrading.
Stage 4. Release product in 5 different colors. Give it a sexy new name that appeals
to people who like orange or purple computers. Generally an indication that its
near EOL.
Stage 5. Release same product in entirely new form factor and claim this as a major
innovation (aka "can't innovate anymore, my ass" stage). Return to stage 1.

Don’t panic, the MBA M4 is still coming soon. The announcement probably this week even. The stocks of the M3 models are dwindling around the world which has always been the biggest indicator.

Hoping thats true and its not pushed out another week....

I would bet Tim made a deal with Trump and Apple stuff won't have the tariffs.

(note to Mods: this isn't a political statement, it's economy talk. No bias. )

What about the Neural Engine? In the M4 it is much more capable than it was in any preceding Apple Silicon. I don't remember the details, but I remember reading, before the M4 was released, or maybe when it was just in the iPad Pro, that in some ways, the improvements in the Neural Engine were the biggest performance improvements of the M4, at least for some parts of Apple Intelligence and other OS and App features that will shortly become commonplace, which is why Apple is in a hurry to get all current Macs into the M4 lineup.

mark gurman has really lost it now  watch him say this week they are still coming but i guess i got it wrong and its next week or something to that effect.

LOL, I can tell the different between the refresh rates depending on what I do (comparing my M3 MBA and my M1 Pro 14" MBP. I can also tell the different between a 4K 27" monitor and a 5K 27" monitor and am perplexed others don't whenever I see someone recommend a 4K 27" monitor. Although I will admit that at the distance I typically like to watch TV from I can't really tell the difference between 1080p and 4K. So go figure (I'm mid 50s BTW and have had historically bad eyesight - many surgeries and still now have to wear glasses again in some cases).
Good for you. Now you’re cursed with deluxe display syndrome. The requirement to have a awesome display.🤔

Whoa....didnt expect that. good that I need both an iPad and a MacBook Air so I get a fix for my apple addition no matter what. A MBA would have been more important though.
