I am kind of scare , not sure they have improve it so far.

Tired of Dongle
This is one thing that is DEFINITELY not going to change :( I wish they'd bring back some sort of mini Magsafe (I don't like the Griffin thing).

look at the new Dell XPS with a 13.3"screen vs MBR 12"
It looks really good, I will admit this much. But the idea of camera filming the inside of my nostrils is even more offputting than the current "VHS is coming back in style" FaceTime camera.

I love the current form factor and other than keyboard reliability (or lack thereof) have no problems at all, but if a 13" version was released and kept similar weight and thickness I would buy it, even if the tech specs didn't change at all vs 2017 models. I have 2016 m5 and speed is the least of my concerns, if anything limits my Photoshop/InDesign work it's the screen size.

1-I have a lot of problem with the keyboard. The problem of dirt getting stuck underneath a key can be easily solve by hitting the key repeatedly. My problem is key not registering and after a sentence, I must make a lots of correction.
2- 2 usb-C would be a minimum.
3- heavier is one of the downside of the Dell
4- What I like is the screen size compare the my MBR
5- :) you are right. the camera has higher definition but the angle is terrible. I do wish for 720p but 480p is not that bad.
6- I went fromMBP 17" to MBA 11 then MacBook retina 2015. Yes I love the form factor, that is the reason I bought the MBR 2015.
I have the basic CPU M3 for the 2015, I will go with the middle one this year, but like you said CPU is not a problem

I won't be able to sell my MBR, I have a lots of problem with wifi, bluetooth and keyboard. I have been many time to AppleStore with my AppleCare which will end soon. Battery was change twice, keyboard once or twice. I had many Apple computer over the year and never had problem. So I guess this one is an exception. Oh, also, the keyboard has marked the LCD so when it is shutdown, I can see the keyboard on the screen. I show that to the Apple Store and they say it was normal :). I remember a long time ago apple talking about the change they made to make sure the keyboard does not mark the screen, it seem they forgot along the way :).

What I want to be in 2018's new MacBook :

1) at least 13.3 inch display with Retina Display
2) 2 x USB C Ports
3) Better Keyboard
4) CHEAPER PRICE
Aside from better keyboard and cheaper price, you just described 13" MBP.

Yup, that's really unfortunate. They are great little computers with serious quality control problems. I put a sticker below the keyboard – protector kind of thing against discolouring – and it adds just enough distance (0.5 mm or so) to stop the keyboard marks on the screen.

I never needed AppleCare but I think that I will get it for this laptop – I have another month to decide. :/ This laptop is irritatingly near perfection...yet so far.

Is Intel going to come out with a Kaby Lake Refresh for Y chips?
Kaby Lake Refresh refers to the “8th generation” 15W chips that have 4 cores. I don’t believe one is planned for the Y chips since it is too difficult to do within 4.5W.
[doublepost=1516557278][/doublepost]
I don’t think so. Kaby Lake Refresh is for the 15W chips only. Higher wattage chips will get Coffee Lake (essentially Kaby Lake Refresh+). The Y chips likely won’t get updated until Cannon Lake.
It’s not a case of waiting until Cannon Lake, 8th gen Y-series, using the 10nm Cannon Lake architecture, will be the first Cannon Lake processors to be released and are already in production, whereas the 9th gen Cannonlake processors are expected later this year. Kaby Lake Refresh is also for 28W chips but they have yet to be announced. As you said a core increase is not planned for the 5W chips.

The 15 W Kaby Lake R chips have a TDP up config for 25 W.

With all this talk about there being a 13” MacBook added to the line up and the Air being discontinued, do you think it will be just like the Air in specs? ie better processors than the current 12”MacBook and maybe the same 12 hour battery life as the Air? That would be really tempting!

Possible it will use U series chips - Microsoft have managed to go fanless with a full 15W chip in the surface pro. Most likely scenario is it will just be a scaled up 12" though. Apple now seem to aim for 10 hours battery across the board, so I wouldn't expect more than that and be pleasantly surprised if it does exceed it ;)

I was talking about the 28W chips not increasing the TDP of 15W chips.
Yes I know, but as you know, as of right now there are no 28 W chips, and there is no release date for them yet either. I was just implying that it's always a possibility to use TDP up chips as necessary. In fact, that's what Apple is doing already with the MacBooks and 4.5 Watt chips. The MacBooks use a TDP up version of them, not stock.

What are the chances we see a refresh in June vs. Q4 vs. 2019?
All of this chip talk seems to indicate that we aren’t likely to see a June 18 refresh?

I sold my 2012 RMBP13, and want to buy a RMB12, but I don’t want to be the guy who buys it only to learn of a refresh a couple months later. If it’s going to be Q4 or 2019, I’m okay buying now.

I am planning to buy the 2017 MB and sell my 2015 Pro. In the same boat. I can get it only in April [live in India with ridiculous Apple pricing, so on my next US trip], and would hate to see a new one launched as soon as I buy it.

Unlikely unless cannonlake chips (8th gen Y series) make an appearance sooner than expected (current rumours have them only launching in the latter part of this year). Traditionally what Apple might have done is adjust the pricing tiers, or given a price cut, but the big gap between the 2015 and 2016 MacBook pros suggest they are comfortable with leaving their machines to go a full 18 months between refreshes with no adjustments at all now.

If you're still under apple care, had all those issues and are still experiencing problems that prevent you from selling your MBP you should really ask for a replacement device. You paid a lot of money for that device and you paid a few hundred dollars more not to have to worry about those kind of things, go to the Apple store before your AC expires and don't leave until they make this right!

Ok, I understand, although suitable 15W haven’t been announced yet either. They are expected, along with the 28W, in Q2. While that may seem suitable for WWDC, I think it’s probably more likely we’ll see them later in the year unfortunately. But hopefully the MacBook refresh and larger model are announced at WWDC.

Rumour has it that the 10 nm Cannon Lake Y series chips for the MacBook will come in 2018 but a lot later in the year than the 2017 models did.

So if true, either the new MacBook comes out Q4 2018, or else might even get delayed until 2019. For comparison, the 2017 MacBook came out in Q2 2017, which makes sense, since the m3-7Y32 also came out in Q2 2017. ie. It could possibly a 1.5 year gap between the 2017 MacBook and its successor.

Also, most predictions suggest that the 10 nm version Y series chips appropriate for the MacBook will still be dual-core.
The chips are already shipping in limited quantity with a volume ramp up starting in q2. A summer refresh like last year is going to repeat itself

I love my 12” from 2016 but find myself using iPad Pro the majority of my day and for a lot of my work. The 12” is too small for my lap too, I hope they’re looking into designing a 14” form factor at some point.
