You are making it sound far harder than it really is for Apple. They probably have Mac OS running on ARM for a few years.

Holy balls, I don't think you know how to read.

I've said at least three times now that anything Apple would need to do is very, very easy. It's the third-party stuff that's the most difficult part of the transition.

Christ on sale.

You may not have been around for the PPC to Intel transition. I was. And getting developers to write native apps and stop depending on Rosetta was like pulling teeth.

Judging from Intel transition it's nothing too difficult.

they lost me at 'keyboard will have same butterfly design as on the macbook.'

SHAME!

I agree completely. That keyboard is an abomination. Why include it? To make it thinner which is really indicative of Apple's choices lately. To me suggests they've lost their way. They don't know what works and what doesn't and they're too arrogant to admit when a design doesn't work. When nearly everyone blasted this keyboard in reviews, why didn't they abandon this? Courage?

If Apple kills the MagSafe on the MBP or MBA, then thats it. It would be a clear lack of leadership from the 3 (Ive, Cook, Federighi) @ The New Apple©, they better start selling perfumes and clothing

I'm convinced. You can't read. From the very same post of mine that you quoted and replied to:

It was EXTREMELY difficult.

I had the first Intel MacBook. It was fine. This one will be much, much better since Apple is already using ARM since 2007. now they will transition to an architecture with which they have almost 10 years experience already.

Once again, you prove you are completely clueless about development.

Apple had about as much experience with x86 when they moved to Intel as they currently do with ARM. They were developing OS X for x86 in parallel with PowerPC. It did not make the Intel transition any smoother for 3rd party apps because Apple's experience with a platform does not in any way influence third-party support for that platform!

You seem to be under the impression that the ease of an architecture change is solely dependent on Apple. You're wrong.

Just stop talking. You're seriously out of your element on this subject. ("iOS simulator is an ARM emulator" should have been your first hint.)

Unfortunately Ive favors form over function, style over substance, Cook lets him have his way while SJ enforced a tight balancing act. I would be ecstatic if I am proven wrong and the Hello Again launch blows me away.

With regard to the Mac Pro:

Whether they are going to kill it or not, I could see Apple silently lowering the price this Thursday.

That could set the stage for an update around WWDC 2017—along with a price re-increase. It could also set the stage for discontinuing the Mac Pro altogether this spring.

What if, instead of a new MP, Apple introduces an "iMac Pro" - with a 6 / 8 Core Xeon CPU and dual professional-grade GPUs?

Steve Jobs: "Innovate your ass off and the sales numbers will come from making revolutionary products. If a product flops, so be it. The other products will pick up the slack. Never stop innovating."

Tim Cook: "Play things safe. Stick to what makes money and don't take any risks."

Tim Cook is a solid CEO and a play-it-safe numbers guy. But he's just not the CEO that a company like Apple needs to be what the rest of the industry looks up to. We will never see another iPod or iPhone or iPad come out of Apple under Tim Cook. The best that's come out of Cook's Apple was the Apple Watch. Successful? Maybe. But it's not the "I HAVE TO HAVE ONE" that any of the previous products were.

Honestly I miss the long product cycle from Apple. I don't like the feeling of buying a computer that's renewed every 6 or less months and make the last machine looks almost as obsolete…

Apple getting its in-house software running on a new processor platform isn't the major transition hurdle. It's the easiest part of the entire process.

The difficult part is offering an interim translation step (a la Rosetta) while trying to get everyone who develops software for your platform to rewrite their stuff.

That's only difficult if you're developing non-App-Store apps. If you're developing apps for iOS / Mac App Store, the transition should be fairly seamless.

I'm calling this now....

MacBook 12": $999 starting
MacBook 13": $1199 starting
MacBook Pro 13": $1399 starting
MacBook Pro 15": $2099 starting

Close. I'd say more like:

13" MBA non-retina (entry level): $899

MB 12" : $1099
MB 13" : $1299

MBP 13" : $1499
MBP 15" : $1999

STILL no update to the Mac Pro?

At what point do they just dump it? Without an update it seems like we're awfully close to that point, why bother with this machine if it's going to be so out of date? And frankly such poor quality control.

Kaby Lake is out now and available on systems through a number of vendors already. Skylake would be disappointing and an Apple fail.

*Sigh* Repeat after me, "There are no Kaby Lake SKUs for iMac or rMBP until 2017", "There are no Kaby Lake SKUs for iMac or rMBP until 2017", "There are no Kaby Lake SKUs for iMac or rMBP until 2017"

All that's available is the ultra-mobile chips at 15w or less. Putting these in an rMBP would make it the slowest MBP for many, many years.

It's not going to be out of date. 45w Skylake was released in June this year. Only Intel and Razer have 6700HQ machines available. "Out of date" =/= "I don't know what I'm talking about"

If not Tim Cook then whom? Is there really anyone inside or outside of Apple that could be the CEO that Apple needs? Steve Jobs was one in a million. I don't think there's anyone out there that can fill his shoes which is why Tim Cook essentially gives Jony Ive free reign.

Amen.

I've been though all their processor swaps, no interest in doing it again.

If it meant actually seeing more frequent updates to the Mac line, I would take ARM Macs any day of the week.

Sadly, with Tim Cook saying "Why would you even buy a computer now? The iPad Pro is all you need!" I think the direction they're heading is all too obvious.

Haha wait, are you seriously trying to argue with a straight face that the Mac Pro is not horrendously out of date?!

Ive just had a look and all of the Mac lineup is still available for next day delivery in the UK. I though shipping times started to slip as we got closer to a pre release?

Only on products that are in high demand.

No "current" Mac meets that qualification. Apple has tons of aging stock available.

What am I repeating? Why am I repeating it?

I don't believe I said anything in my post that isn't accurate.

If the rumours are true and the refresh for what I think we can all agree are dated systems by today's standards does in fact reflect Skylake come Thursday's keynote, both statements still hold true...

a) Kaby Lake is out now and available on systems through a number of vendors already...
http://www.ultrabookreview.com/11638-intel-kabylake/

b) Apple comes up short in this regards rolling out their "refresh" with Skylake while everyone else is planning or has already done so with Kaby Lake. They would therefore trail the rest of the industry and their systems are not able to take advantage of the new processors features and optimizations. Disappointing regardless of the reasons.

You can take them, but what can you do with them?

Unless you make a living on Apple's software (and you never know what they'll dump next) you may be left hung out to dry.

What third party pro-app developers will want to put any effort into a platform that has shown little or no concern for its flagship product since it's release, and treats pro users with disdain.

Sure, there could be more frequent updates to the Mac line, in all likelihood, they'll be more disappointing as well (if that's possible).
