This doesn't make sense for a few reasons.

1. If the iPad pro can have even bezels with no notch, the MacBook pros can too. I would be okay with iPad pro sizes bezels on the MacBook.

2. This rumour seems to suggest that the notch is due to the MacBook having a 1080p camera. the issue with putting a 1080p camera has always been the thickness of the display lid, not the size of the bezels.

3. It doesn't make sense to have an iPhone 12 sized notch for a 1080p camera, True Tone sensor, and mic, when the main thing that takes up the iPhone 12 notch is a speaker.

The details just don't seem to add up.

Well, I sure hope that this is not true. Removal of a universal port would be a step in the wrong direction. As is MagSafe. Also, audio on the left? That's odd, it's usually on the right.
the magsafe will be an usbC surrounded by the magnetic pins

Not that I have a dog in this fight, given I’m perfectly content using my M1 iPad Pro 12.9” as my daily driver, but I would think that Apple switching to FaceID on MBP’s makes total sense. And if Apple was going to follow the path for thin bezels with the newest MBP’s, then a notch would make sense - since they wouldn’t have enough bezel to hide it like they do with the iPP. A notch should be less intrusive with a desktop setup, as it would live within an area that is normally filled with application specific drop-downs.

the 16" mbp already have a lot thinner side bezels than the ipad pro...and the mac doesnt have touch screens while the ipad has...and the ipad needs to be hold by the side while the mac display doesnt...we will see...the resolution is the bingo here...since it comes from macOS itself

Considering that the top of my screen is something like this on my 13" map ... I would really hope not ...

I mean… it wouldn’t be the first time

"Huge questions remain around how macOS would handle a notch, since it would clearly eat into the Menu Bar,"
This alone is the reason this will not happen. it would mean either the area by the sides of the notch will not be used (the menu bar pushed down), the OS will be different for screens with a notch from those without the notch (so the bar will "wrap around" the notch), or the notch will break the menu bar in the middle (being a drag for those with lots of pull downs up there). None of these are options that apple will pick.

In dark mode it may not even look that bad as the camera would be "hidden" in the black menu bar.

Where are you getting all these things? Not that I doubt you, I would just be curious to read all this myself.
i thought somebody showed us in the sub forum from macbook pro
But again, both we should doubt that...i dont see that coming

so it still has to slide in? ... I sure hope we're not getting a proprietary charging port ...
probably they will keep the same brick design with the ethernet port in the power supply aka 24" imac
so it will be proprietary port with both charging and ethernet signal in it, but i dont think Apple will remove the ability to charge over usbC like we could in the last 6 years

Seems quite plausible, otherwise the aspect ratio seems a bit wierd.

Also given that the aspect ratio ignoring the notch will still be 16x10, I don't think it matters.

What’s the problem?? The Mac has a menu bar that’s always showing so it’ll just cover it up. Unless you’re full screen in some app but even still showing the menu bar is pretty common I would think

I alway hide the menu bar and the dock. Its practically the first thing I do on any new Mac.

I don’t get why people hate the notch idea. I only see two options here:

1) No notch, but also a thicker border at the top just like current models or

2) thinner borders on the top and sides with a notch that apple can hide in full screen mode

Both options you still get the same exact 16:10 screen real estate. Option 2 just adds more screen that can also be hidden easily by a miniLED blackout of the top 74 pixels.

Saw that same rumor the day the invites came out. That being said… if the iPad Pro doesn’t need a notch, why would a MacBook Pro???
Yes because the iPad Pro has thicker bezels all around. The iPhone has small bezels so it needs a notch. This would be why you’d also have one on MacBook - to have extremely thin bezels while still having a camera.
So let me get this straight.
The computer will have a notch The same size as the iPhone 11 and 12, despite absolutely no Face ID or speaker being located there, will be thicker with bigger fans despite switching to Apple Silicon which is known for its efficiency, and will have an all black keyboard housing.
Yeah, I smell bull
The size of the notch is likely to accommodate for future Face ID. Right now my guess is the thickness of the screen portion is still too small to fit the current Face ID modules. But they don’t want to make the notch super tiny and then make it bigger later on when they add Face ID.

I also suspect that the thickness isn’t going to get bigger, but due to the less rounded design, it may look a little thicker because it won’t have the tapered edges like current models.
