A company called T Systems in Germany posts a strange photo of what is claimed to be a new MacBook Pro.

The image carries a black border around the screen and could very well be a mockup. Unlike iPod cases, it's very unlikely for a random retailer to have gotten promotional images of an unreleased Apple notebook.

Deutsche Telekom is not some "random retailer". They're big. Really big.

Former state-owned telecoms company from Germany. Monopoly on all forms of telecom in their home country and Austria, and services well established throughout the world (T-Mobile through Europe, USA). Corporate customers include massive organisations like the VW Group, BMW, Porsche, and lots of other big customers in large financial areas like Frankfurt and Munich.

They are a massive company. It's not beyond possibility that they did get pictures from Apple. Despite the company's size and credibility however, I don't think it likely - pictures wouldn't do much do help whatever sorts of tests they need to do on the systems before shipping them to customers.

Now the website shows "Derzeit nicht lieferbar." = "Currently not available." for all models (not just the photoshopped ones).

There is no reason for such a retailer to put up a photoshop of such an image.

However I can understand why they would use the current specifications when building a holding page for the next generation MacBook Pro. Just because the specs are current doesn't mean it is fake. It actually does look how I expect the next generation to look - it's not too fanciful, it's got the black, it's got the multitouch pad.

However I don't see Apple releasing images to these retailers if the launch is a month away (14th October). In addition Apple wouldn't use that screenshot surely!

So either the MacBook Pro is getting a refresh this Friday, or next Tuesday, and the imagery has gone out to major retailers to get their online stores ready... (but as I say, Apple would use the Leopard desktop image, not the Nepalese Pheasant Keeper).

Or they didn't have an image, and the guy did a websearch to get one, and it just happened to be the wrong image.

Or the webguy mocked up an image because he suspected a new release would be coming. This doesn't make any sense either, or they have too many people in their art department.

Look at the high res picture. Did anybody else notice that the upper corners of the menu are rounded on the screen?
...
This picture did not come from Apple.

No it didn't.

You used the fan mockup that someone else posted as being similar.

The picture on the T-Systems website didn't have a menubar on the image, so you couldn't have done that analysis!

I don't see why Apple would use that image, but maybe they're going through some peasant imagery phase.

Is there ever a moment when you can actually say something remotely kind or nice. You attitude is just sad. Does it make you feel better tearing down other people's thoughts and ideas?

Yes. It would make me feel better if I was genuinely changing people's dreams about future Apple computers. Here is my rationale:

An update comes and you were expecting it. You are happy.
An update does not come and you were expecting it. You are mad at Apple and decide to rant on the forums about how you "deserve" the update(this is what happens. Go through the forums and see for yourself).
An update comes and you were not expecting it. You are ecstatic.
An update does not come and you were not expecting it. You do not come on the forums and scream about how Apple "owes" you the update.

I go for the last two. Everything that I say is based on past Apple updates and a lack of optimism. Optimism in Apple updates makes people idiots. "WHY NO BLU-RAY APPLE SUX :mad::mad:" when the MacBook Pro updates come out is far worse than "I wasn't expecting them to put Blu-ray in, anyway. I'm glad they upgraded the *such-and-such*"

You see?

i can't believe how many of you think this is the "new" mbp. so all they changed was the screen bezel? all the specs are the same, but hey...we have a new bezel. let's all run out and buy one. come on people!

Isn't that what they did to the iPod? Keep to what works already with some cosmetic changes?

Black Keyboard

I have to think that if Apple were to do the black frame around the monitor (quite likely, I think), they would also do the black keyboard like the Air.

for all we know those specs are the base model specs for the new ones, and they are still using the old pricing system. But it seems more likely that some one, somewhere screwed up

I really dig that design.

It looks so... seamless slick. And that black border looks sexy amazing.

I wonder if the backside will have a black apple on it like at the bottom front of the current iMacs.

Edit: Slashes/line outs should be added to the allowed bb code... I changed what I thought would be slashes to red text instead (in other words, red text is what I said at first, what immediately follows is what I changed it too because when rereading I decided it wasn't the best word choice.)

Just as a side note, anybody can get hi-res images of Apple products, so no need to search the web:

apple.com/pr

An obvious fake

It's an obvious fake - there is no infrared for the apple remote at all. And before you say, 'it's on the screen bezel' the whole point of the remote is so that the MacBook / MacBook Pro can be closed but feed an external display.

As there's no IR 'eye' on the lower casing I can safely say this is a fake.

Yeah, but they can't deliver a fully meshed wires only ethernet WAN service

I've written a E-Mail to the Support.

Will post it as soon it will be answered.

8600M GT... Not the new one.
Penryn CPU clock speed, too, so they're either updating NOTHING or it's the current model. GUESS WHICH.
Bingo.

And rumors suggest that the base would be more curved and rounder than what is shown in the picture.

If this is real, then I will be disappointed.

I think people are going a bit too far with think how much different the form factor of the MBP will be.
Agreed. Some of the Air-ish mockups are just too, well, Air-ish. I do expect more taper than the current MacBook Pro though.

The MB will go with the airs slim, tapered look because it won't be runnng higher end parts.
25 W Montevina CPUs will also help with heat reduction. And so I also think that the MacBook will actually get thinner than the MacBook Pro.

As a result the spec of the MBP will be significantly more "pro" so the form factor will be roughly the same because of the obvious space needed for the higher spec parts so I'm not expecting a massive difference in appearence.
Wait… The MacBook Pro's specs are somehow more "pro" because the MacBook's specs get even lower? Crippling the low-end won't make the high-end any better (except relatively speaking).

Looks alright, but I'm gonna be pissed if there's no matte screen option.

me too. although i got a pretty bad feeling considering the professionality of future apple products. meaning i wouldn't be too surprised if they turn out to be stupid enough to offer no matte screen.

true image, fake webmaster

+1 for true image with outdated specs, with the noob webmaster explanation

By the way, the HiRes pic given in a previous post is clearly a different one (touchpad size, keyboard shape, down left corner of the upper panel, angle of the keyboard panel, etc.)
