Well a top of the line MBP 15 tricked out specs over $3500 plus tax. $4k on a laptop with 16gb RAM? sorry Apple. I'll keep my 2015 MBP until it dies.

Well what a disappointment..

  • I almost choked when I saw the UK prices. The base (non touch) model is now £1500.... absolutely outrageous compared to what that buys you in Windows land.
  • Loss of ports (magsafe / SD / USB? without adapter!)
  • no Updates to the 13" air - so still has a crap screen - so not really an alternative (at £1249!)
  • no updates to the ancient/embarrassing iMac, MacPro, Mini (seriously ? WTF ?)
Apple literally priced me out the market. I know the UK is taking a hit on the value of the £ at the moment, but the prices are bordering on insane.

Same for the prices of the iPhone 7+ too. Its not like I cant afford it, I just hate paying so much when there are other options that seem reasonably priced now.

For the first year in as long as I can remember, I have chosen to not upgrade to 7 series iPhone and wont be buying a new mac despite originally thinking I was getting both in June !

Now going to check out the Thinkpad Carbon X1 and competitors. MacOS isnt worth this kind of premium !

Young p

Young people can't afford those new stupid prices, thats why. Apple is well and truely a lifestyle, fashion brand and more fool them....they will fall.
Erm... when was Apple really successful for offering computers that were affordable?

Wow, pricier than I expected.

Lowest CPU + 16 GB 2133 MHz + 512 GB + Dongle + superdrive + AppleCare + CA Tax = $2765

But still cheaper than my first laptop from 2000. :D

pricing on the new MacBook Pro starts at $1,499 for the entry-level model with no Touch Bar and goes up to $2,799 for the 15-inch machine.

The pricing gap between Mac & PC from the 1990s is back.
Back then I used to defend it, for the far advanced user experience, now I sadly join the chorus of those that call Apple expensive. Never thought I'd be saying that.

Disappointed in that event, don't get me wrong some beautiful notebooks was offered but my god they have the prices to match, i was going to sell my 2015 Space Grey MacBook and put the difference to it for the new pro, but at those prices I think I'll pass and as for the Apple TV one app for all that's not going to do any good for those outside of the states. In the U.K. we don't have the amount of providers as the states has and I doubt it'll be the same for other countries to.

All you guys who keep saying that due to the ridiculous base prices (a $400 increase to the already expensive Pros across the line) of the 13" and the 15" Pros that you "think" or are "probably" done with Apple, you are just kidding yourselves. Might as well throw your wallets, arms and legs at them. You are either done with them or you are not. There are other, cheaper, better options out there.

I'm not done with Apple. I'm just choosing to wait until they come to their senses on price or I am forced to upgrade.

Wow very, very expensive especially with such modest base specs.

Looks like Apple are going for a much narrower price range much further up market.

The strangest part was the couple of minutes at the end retiring the Macbook Air with it's replacement the new Macbook Pro minus the touch bar having just spent an hour informing us that the touch bar was about to change the world. The base MBP is also substantially more than the 13" Macbook Air.

32gb really should be an option on high end 15" MBP's now.

I was in the market for a 13", now I'm not so sure?

To use a new MacBook Pro at work and on the road, I'd need an adapter for:
  • USB wireless keyboard
  • USB wireless mouse
  • USB desk fan (yes, awesome)
  • Ethernet (our Wi-fi is too slow)
  • HDMI (external monitor)
  • iPhone (charging overnight)
  • iPad (charging overnight)
No thanks. Traveling for work is a pain in the ass enough as it is without having to worry about additional dongles and adapters.
Or get a USB-C or Thunderbolt docking station. There are also USB-C to HDMI cables, and USB-C to Lightning cables. No need for adapters.

Highest specs available for 15" with Applecare + TAXES came up to $4790 Canadian.
Clearly they are not marketing to students anymore.

RIP MacBook Air
RIP Magsafe (What an innovative feature back then... still so useful now when some clumsy students steps over the cable when I was in the library)
RIP cool backlit Apple logo behind the screen

RIP innovative Apple.

The last innovative OSX/macOS was Mavericks, which implemented a RAM compression method which saved some memory. Now they have that iCloud fusion drive which is more expensive than most cloud storage services. I bought 3 years of Office 365 (5 OneDrive accounts of 1TB each) for USD 100,00.

Yep. Some people can't see the forest for the trees. It's a very useful development and completely unique to the market currently.

While I did see some function in some of the demos, others left me thinking the touch bar UI is a confused mismatch of an interface. Rotating objects with a touchpad seems unnatural compared to multitouch on the screen.

OK lets compare prices.

Microsoft Surface Pro in Australia with i5, 8g and 256 is $2949 AU
13" MacBook Pro in Australia i5, 8g 256, $2699. AU

Hmmm...

For those saying Apple is over priced compared to Windows of comparable specs., well guess again!

I bought my first Apple 1982 and had ever since Macs for me, my company, my family. My next notebook will not be a Mac. It hurts to watch Tim Cook wrecking that company. If you don't believe that strong companies can be wrecked by megalomaniac CEO have a look at Deutsche Bank.

This is just the beginning given Brexit. You think it wont get worse just wait this time next year let alone the future.
