For those complaining about how Apple spent an hour talking about the new Touch Bar... What did you honestly expect? It's a laptop. It has a display, a keyboard, mouse, battery, hard drive, processor. You can learn everything you want to know about that stuff in about 5 minutes - it all boils down to simple numbers. The OS isn't changing right now... did you miss the time a few months back when they spent an hour talking about all the new features they introduced this year in that?

Apple is going to spend their time talking about whats new and what sets them apart from others. In this case, that's the Touch Bar. Don't like it? Then don't bother watching the keynotes, just wait until they're done and look up the spec'd on their website. You'll be happier, get what you want, AND save time doing it.

I wish you had told us this earlier. I would have seriously listened. Will remember for next time.

I don't know what to do. I used to get a new MacBook Pro on every release, top of the line, just because I could, not because I needed it. But then times changed and I couldn't do that anymore. I have MacBook Pro Late-2011 i7 2.5gz, mother board has been replaced 2 times, because the thing overheats and the graphics go south. One time replaced for free. I have a MacBook Pro 2010 model, the same issue and its having the same issues again. 16GB (while perhaps not officially supported) and an OWC 512GB SSD drive in it. I'm not a huge mobile user, but have Thunderbolt display hooked up to it. I have another apple display (non-thunderbolt) that works on the 2010 MacBook Pro.

5 years OLD and 6 years OLD. I can't do the copy/paste app switching between my iPhone and Mac, because its too old.

The Touch Bar is cool, but again, I rarely use my MacBook Pro keyboard, so I would have to change the way I work if I wanted to get any use from it, but I may never need it to use it short of the occasional Function key use or turning up/down sound.

I only have 50GB of space available on my HD, so can't imagine going to less. I already use external drives to store my photos and videos and less used items on. The whole iCloud storage thing doesn't give me warm and fuzzies. I use CrashPlan to store my data offsite in case of tornado, fire or complete theft.

This new MacBook Pro *might* have a CPU twice as fast as my current one based on Geekbench ratings, but I some how doubt that. My AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB leaves much to be desired. Glad they got away from the graphics switching stuff, what a nightmare that has been for my two MacBook Pros.

I might actually be able to afford getting a new computer in January and on one hand, I'm excited for something new, but on the other hand... I don't have a single device that uses USB-C/Thunderbolt 3. Adapters and/or New Cables, adds to the upgrade cost.

Maybe I should go iMac route, and just keep my old computer as the occasional mobile. It has a new battery and motherboard in it. UGH.

I like my iMac 27" late 2013 I got second hand on eBay, it plays games just fine, the screen is fantastic and you can upgrade the RAM if you want on the 27" models, I have 24GB in it right now, with the 4GB GPU I think its the GTX 740. It's a great system.

300€ more for the same 13" model (no touchbar), just to put USB C and a new color? 2000€ for a dual core with a touchbar? Apple has lost it, ridiculous prices. I was going to get a 13" but I'm sticking to my MBA to do the small stuff

You are dismissing people's legitimate complaints that Apple is marketing this as the "Professional Solution" with no updates to the Mac Pro let alone the iMac. Some people have been waiting over a full year for a real update to the entire Mac line and have only been offered up prosumer friendly devices. I seem to remember someone saying well over 3 years ago "Can't innovate anymore my ass" to a product that hasn't been updated since.

I know he said USD, but that would make no sense. So look at my other post and see what is really being charged in Brazil, it's high but not $7,500 USD. I think it was a typing error.

Maybe typo but I think when it comes to India it might be very high indeed. Does anyone know if you can play soccer with only one kidney?

Out of interest how many people on this forum are going to buy the new MBP?

Was interested in replacing my Late 2013 retina but the pricing and hassle of dongles has changed my mind. I'll just sit tight. Luckily i haven't had hardware problems.

UK prices have always appeared to be lower (but actually just higher than US prices when converted and tax is applied). The fall in sterling since Brexit has caused this, not Apple greed.

35% increase on the top 15" MBP compared to last year.. Brexit currency drop accounts for around 13%.. So it looks to be a 22% increase for apples shareholders

I went to a Chromebook earlier this year and use Remote Desktop for power use. The only thing I miss is my SD card slot and Apple took care of that.

Not counting all those tax free dollars in Ireland...

My first reactions - no extra colour options , just the same old Space Grey and Silver. :( And the pricing on the top-spec 15" Retina MacBook Pro, (without some very necessary extras), has increased by a whopping €1410 from €4,538 to €5,948.

Ah i see. Play the blame game, ignore experts, reality etc. Retailers are trying to force the lowest prices they can but its not sustainable and only damages business in the UK. Every price increase will hurt much more.

Wait till you see the 2017 model pricing. 2018 will be worse and so on. The pound falling should be the lesser of your concerns.

I do blame Brexit, it was a ****ing retarded thing to vote for and now we are all paying the price due to the uneducated sheep getting sucked into the vote leave lies.

a chocolate coin is now worth more than sterling, no wonder Apple prices have climbed

you lose a port with this as well :( at least with the 2015 you could charge and still have 2 usb and 2 thunderbolt plugged in WITHOUT an adapter, now if you wanna charge you can only have 3 in

but I think when it comes to India

India? I thought this was about Brazil????

Oh well the morning has been fun on Mac Rumors, got to go and do some work and look forward to getting my new MBP in a couple of weeks.

Enjoy the day you all!

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if the i5 MBP 13'' will be good enough to comfortably edit 4K and 1080p60 video? Looking to replace my aging iMac..

Thanks!
Only if the App uses significant GPU/hardware acceleration (like phones do). The intel GPU should easily do 4k60p realtime h264 encoding* (using intel QuickSync). That editing itself however requires CPU power as well, that can't always be offloaded to the GPU, which is why I wouldn't rely on tech-specs here. depends quite a lot on the application. => Try before you buy!

*at least a intel HD 4600 could do that back in 2013: https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-media-sdk/topic/401155

Man, I know the rolling meme is to harp on Apple re prices but my god. I was fully expecting to upgrade my 2011 macbook pro to the new 15" but at that price I'll just stick with old faithful for another year.

I'm in this boat. My 2011 is showing signs of age and my bar was pretty low for a new MBP. I would have been happy with a spec bump, maybe 512MB standard on the 15" but it was just wishful thinking. In no way was I expecting a major price hike. Seriously...$500, for the touch bar? Everything else delivered is iterative. For the first time in a long time I'm thinking maybe I hang on to my old MBP or newer used machine for iOS dev and consider a Windows laptop dual booting Linux. I guess I'll start looking at my options, just really bummed because I was pretty excited to place my order and now I'm not sure.
