Why replace it? It should be able to do everything that the current ones can do, performance wise. Not much has changed since then. The Retina screen was a huge thing and worth upgrading for. But is there anything in which your machine is significantly too slow?

Moore's law is no longer applicable like it used to be. Computers are no longer becoming painfully obsolete 2-3 years after you buy them. We've fortunately arrived at a time where you can buy a good computer and keep it for many years and still update your OS and apps as often as you want without any noticeable performance hit. At least that's my experience.
Agreed.

Computers are no longer obsolete 2-3 years after we buy them. Smartphones is a different story thanks to temptation from carrier upgrades and shorter life cycles. I see so many posters here with a MB from 2008-2011. Try using an iPhone now from that era. I left Windows because of stability issues. Weird because I prefer Android for mobile but Mac for desktop. I guess with mobile, I look to tinker and customization which iOS lacks. With desktops, all I look for is stability and fast transfer speeds. I also look for file management and drag and drop which both have.

I am actually reassured when I hear stories from people whose MacBooks are still running fine after half a decade. My bro is all part of the Apple ecosystem owning an iPhone since 2007, an iPad, a 2010 or 2011 MBP, and $1000 Apple Watch he got as a college graduation present. I asked him if he still uses his old MBP. He told me yup and has no plan to upgrade after half a decade. That was like music to my ears because it is telling me Macs do last a long time.

Couldn't they use that technology that Timex used in their watches? It was very low drain. Or a small solar cell to charge a battery to drive the glow... Sad... :(

Hes trolling or misinformed, the logo uses the screens backlight that without it the screen wouldn't be on. it doesn't require any more power than the display being on period. It's a free energy feature.

The glowing logo is disappointing... but not exactly a deal breaker right? And how many people really use the extension lead? I've never used mine. In six years. Whilst it's $19 less 'value' in the box, it's actually better for the environment as it reduces waste.

True about the lead. I have 2 extra just lying around gathering dust. I wished they didn't include one when you have to buy a new charger. It could have save me 50€ by now.

I never really liked the Logo... This looks better IMO.
Sometimes I could actually see the logo on the screen due to light coming through. This is on the air, not sure about the pro models.
I have a 2011 Pro, and on occasion it could affect the display, yes.

Frankly I'm disappointed but not surprised by all the negativity. For one, if you want to extend your cable just buy a regular 3-pin extension (cheap as chips) or a longer USB-C cable. Two, the PSU cable is just a USB-C cable, so it serves a dual purpose. Now you can carry your PSU and cable and be confident of being able to hook up any peripheral or power your MBP, should you need to—less to carry.

As for dongles: if Apple wants to push the envelope and provoke industry changes, they have to make radical and, dare I say it, "courageous" changes. This is typical Apple.

Finally, the price: if you can't afford one now, then save. If you can't justify the expenditure even over time, then be patient: refurbs and second-handers will crop-up eventually.

I'm looking forward to receiving my new MBP, and given the five-year gap between it and my current one, I'm definitely going to appreciate the speed enhancements and smaller footprint :)

All you cry babies will eventually get the 2016 model or newer when your old tech starts to crumble into oblivion.

Yes, they will, but it just might not be an Apple product. Lots of people waited for the big event yesterday and then ordered Windows machines when there still was not a MacBook with a touch screen. The iPad Pad pro has trained them well, they now want a keyboard and touch everywhere.

No extension cord, that is sad. Even sadder are the prices they ask for. I was hoping I could get a good deal at microsoft surfacebook,.. wrong. What's up lately. Have I missed something? Didn't they used to ask 1800 for the high end laptops. Now you have to pay the double.
Microsoft lowered the price of the Surface Book to $1350, by the way.

I'd leave the platform if there are decent alternatives but the software I need is not available on Linux and Microsoft is just as bad if not worse.
