Personally, I am upgrading my current (latest model MBP) 13 inch to the new one as long I get:

- A higher resolution display (1440x900)
- A slightly bigger hard drive (SSD is still not for me)
- NVIDIA (or ATI) graphics card, at least as good as the one I've got now.

- I don't mind getting another c2d, although a slightly bumped i3 would be appreciated, although its still not my first priority at the moment

Does anyone know if the European in-store Apple stores will also receive the new MBP's today/this week? I'm quite curious since I work at Saturn, and this week there's a discount of 15 euro's on every 100 we spend + our usual discount of 20% for working there, which would make it cost 797 euro's for the 13".

If we would have it this week it'd be great, but else I will feel screwed for paying 130 euro's more (and yes, i know I shouldn't be whining since most people pay way more). :p

My personal hope:

MBP 14,1" 1440x900, i3 2.1, HD6350 512MB, SSD64+HDD320, NO-ODD -> 1249$

MBP 14,1" 1440x900, i5 2.3, HD6350 512MB, SSD128+HDD640, NO-ODD -> 1449$

MBP 16" 1680x1050, i5 2.5, HD6550 1GB, SSD128+HDD750, NO-ODD -> 1699$

MBP 16" 1920x1200, i5 2.7, HD6550 1GB, SSD128+HDD1TB, NO-ODD -> 1999$

Optional i7 QC, Optional SSD256

No more 13,3", there's the Air for max mobility with that size, Pro should be PRO.

Plus:

MB White 14,1" 1440x900, i3 2,1, SB Graphics, HDD320, Legacy ODD -> 999$

I don't think this will ever happen, but i hope!

my new mbp

so glad with you people.
my 3 year old mbp broke down. i wanted to buy a new one last thursday.
I LOVE YOU ALL..

about the new mba.
what if the biggest surprise (it sure is mine) if it has a trackpad with a "newton" like possibility.

the trackpad is so full off possibilities, the onlything missing is the possibility to write on it.

Great, this is gonna be an exciting week :)! Not expecting too much, but I'll buy a new MBP anyway.. Still I'm not sure if I should go with 15" or 17"..

:(. I'll be away from Friday morning (Sydney time) until Sunday afternoon - Most probably with no reception...
I'll be trying so hard to try and get a few bars on my phone so I can check up on the Apple website.

Whoever pointed out the change in the bar on the top of the apple website is very clever, because I can honestly see the new MacBook pro having a glossily grey appearance.
I have a cruzer titanium USB drive which is made out of liquid metal and it has a shiney appearance, however, after keeping it on my key chain for 3 years it still hasn't scratched.
The darker colour of apples metal will be due to using a higher percentage of carbon in the mixture, carbon often strengthens the lattice so it is hugely strong and even the thinest points.
The production technique will also be very different, instead of extrusion, it will use a form of injection moulding. Where the liquid liquid metal is injected into mould and left to set.
I really hope apple does hold a press release to demonstrate some of these advances in their industrial design techniques.

About time!!!

the macbook pro line up is past due for an upgrade but i wonder if the changes are really worth the wait. they need those new intel chip but i guess this week we shall see

meanwhile in the netherlands

normal mbp without configuration delivery within 24 hours
change one thing and the delivery is 3-5 days.

and yes also the macstore in holland is no longer with black tabs.
the individual icentres are still telling a huge stock for the standard mbp
and with configurating they have no idea

ah ok, you seem to be like me in the respect of living on macrumors for the last couple days, waiting for news on the new mbp.

I'm so excited! Im literally standing outside the apple store with my wallet open saying, "now?" the power mac g4 (quicksilver 2002) desktop needs to go to a rest home, it held up for 9 years but alas...

+1
At what point does dedication become an obsession? ;)

If there is a new design I hope they are not too thin and light. I own an 11" MacBook Air and although I love it, it's not rugged enough to be considered a pro machine. It makes my 13" MBP seem like a tank, which is a good thing.

I wonder if the displays will be 16:9. Probably not though. The 11" MBP is 16:9 because it needed to be wide enough for a full keyboard.

These also better have either lightpeak (unlikely), USB 3.0, and/or SATA-6. These MBP models will be around for a while given Apple's refresh rate of late. They need these now current upgrades in I/O.

I just hope they put atleast a low end i5 chip in the base 13" MBP. i3 chip in a $1199 notebook is a joke.

Here is why I think there will be NO press conference.

1. Steve is sick. Too sickly to get up on stage and talk, if he does down goes the stock price.
2. If they had a conference someone else would need to speak. Likely a mixture between Scott Forstall, Schiller, Mansfield, and maybe Ives. They are all decent, but none of them are Steve. A conference isn't the same without Jobs, and we don't need more negative PR based on bad-speakers and no sign of Jobs.
3. Apple realized Jobs may be out of the picture soon (god forbid) but it's possible. Apple has no real front-runner to take his place. Sure, Scott has the face for it, but he can't replace Steve right away.

What is my point? Apple knows that conferences without Steve might generate bad PR. So they want to get people used to releases WITHOUT conferences. People have come to expect amazing things from apple every time with a media event.

Come Thursday we will have some new releases, apple will post a video online like they did with the MBA detailing the design changes (if any).

Lightpeak? Before the recent CNET report everyone doubted it. I still think the chances are slim, but anything is possible.

You're funny.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

With the release of Lion or after that is when we might see a keynote event with new Mac designs. Meanwhile they will do like always release some improvements to use the customers as a lab and gather tech details to improve and fix the next release.
Then buyers remorse and hundreds of posts in this forum asking for finding a way to upgrade to the next level.
After the newiPad, iPhone 5 and Lion plus the MobileMe new service is out is when will make sense to cash in for a new Mac.

Makes total sense. I don't think we are going to see something very different. I'm fine either way, though.

I think its about time to upgrade my 5 year old 2006 white CD macbook.... here is hoping for a complete redesign :)

That is pretty old. You should see a pretty nice performance boost from your upgrade whatever the new models feature.

Its still going strong though haha, no real slow downs, every thing is quick to open, it has had a good life but now it is time to upgrade!
