I hope the pricing changes a bit.

My biggest gripe right now is that for those of us that are very budget-minded, the base-line 13" is the only real option.

Coming from a PC, these are the things that piss me off apple:

1. We need a 14" or 15" model in an affordable price range. $1800 for a base 15" MBP vs $600 for a PC version makes this very tough to swallow. I'm willing to pay some premium for an apple tax, but this is just painful.

2. The upgraded 13" is too expensive. I'm going to be really pissed if the options are:

$1200 - 13", i3, w/ no SSD
$1500 - 13", i5, w/ SSD

I'd almost wager that this is exactly what we'll end up getting.

Basically, I've pretty much decided that the only way I make the switch at this refresh is if I see a machine with the following specs:

MBP 13-14"
i5 sandybridge
128gb SSD
4gb ram
a reasonable video card that can power dual monitors
$1200

Give me that, apple, and I'll convert.

Up your budget, I think

ahaha im nto even getting it until june though but i cant wait to see the reviews and the new colorful ads on the homepage with all of the descrptions and all

haha same here, well..no...not really...im excited to see all of the hoopla, i love apples video descriptions and stuff, but then ill got snatch one up, look around and growl at anyone in the vicinity and sit in a corner with wide eyes and an enthralled look on my face as I twiddle with all of the bells and whistles I hope they put on it.

Then I'll go home...

What're the chances we get an early sneak peak. I'm guessing one of these won't be left behind at the local bookstore...too many espresso shots.

For the moment, let's all gather round and lol at Dell :p
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/20/dell-xps-14-discontinued-will-be-replaced-with-something-thinne/

they're discontinuing their 4 month old xps14
this monstrosity

so they can get on the thinner and lighter trend. I think they may be trying to simplify their line ala apple as well. They did it with alienware and now they may try to do it with straight dell too. hahaha can you believe it, only 4 months old and already discontinued. :D

I really hope this is not just a lame internal component only update. Do something amazing like shed a pound from each size configuration, put IPS screens in each, get rid of that no one ever use optical drive, and make all the models flash based. That'd make a nice update! Everyone expects them to use Sandy Bridge, not very exciting update on its own.

This doesn't really belong here, but I'll bite. Isn't this what happens to most non-Apple laptops? They get replaced fast by other models.

Actually this is an unusual case. Four months is a very short time to keep the model, they generally are out for 6-9 months then get a reviseion then maybe the next refresh it has a new shell, or it's phased out.

In this case it came out then 4 months later it was pulled from the website with no word from Dell, and it still hasn't been explained about 2-3 weeks later. The rumor is that its due to the Alienware line not having a 14in so they cant make it a scaled down version like the 15 and 17in SandBridge versions will be. If this train of thought holds true then there might be an 11in XPS. Possibly a 13in will be introduced to take the place of the 14in. in both the XPS and Alienware lines.

Another problem was also that the XPS14 was not to much more powerful than the Inspiron 14R, and yet it cost a bit more.

Judging by other Notebook sites they sold well and their only real competition in thier range (13-14in performance laptop) is the HP ENVY14.

at most i think we will see the use of SB in the Macbook Pros.

the use of lightpeak as a new technology is something that Apple would probably want to unveil with Intel during a Keynote. Seeing as how there has been no unveiling of this new technology, I am pretty confident Apple will not have lightpeak in the updated macbook pros.

Apple is all about presentation and they is no way they are going to integrate a new technology/standard without glamorizing it and showcasing it to the world.

the use of lightpeak would also require the redesign of the top case for the ports, meaning apple would probably want to announce as a new model.

why would apple quietly "update their laptop" line with a new technology of lightpeak without announcing it.

so yes, no new lightpeak, no liquid metal case. at most SB.

It's still possible that Apple issues media invitation on Monday

It's still possible that Apple issues media invitation on Monday

quite true. although i would find it odd to announce a media event for tuesday on monday, as they normally set up for this stuff and have posters to create hype. who knows.

I hope they have better Sync with iMacs

iPad has a great Sync
iPhone has a great Sync

MBPs have no Sync with desktops
