Liquid-metal-vs-aluminum-670x504-550x413.jpg

Every time I see this picture, the more I'm convinced they are bars of graphite, and not Liquid Metal at all, which I'm convinced would be silver.

And I never understood why people expect a mobile device to power multiple monitors.

DisplayPort supports display chaining, although it does require monitors that support that to come out first.

Most likely there's not much hoo-haa from Apple about this update because there's nothing that great to crow about apart from a spec bump, and the 13" might get an i3, but the graphics will be worse than the 320M in the previous one.

Actually, many companies already do. Take into account that I am switching from PC to Mac with this Macbook Pro release. But you just cant argue that PC's (both portable and desktop) dont offer more power for the price. With apple you are getting different things for the money. (superior build quality, OSX, great set of included software, etc)

For example:

ASUS G Series G53JW-XN1
Intel i7 740QM (Quad Core)
4GB 1333 DDR3
500GB 7200rpm HD
Nvidia 1.5GB GTX 460M
15.6" LED 1920x1080 display
USB 3.0
USB 2.0
Backlit Keyboard
1 year accidental damage warraty

$1,199.99

And it weighs 8 pounds...

Not only it weights 8 pounds, but it is made out of plastic. Also, it has a lot less resale value after usage. Not only that this computer has bunch of crap softwares that I have to uninstall for hours and hours.

+1 Very true.

Liquid-metal-vs-aluminum-670x504-550x413.jpg

the thing is that might show damage (scratches, and to a lesser extent, dust) a lot easier.

i think the dark charcoal colour has to do with the new UI changes in Lion rather than a material change in the apple product line.

if they change the material the macbook pros are made of, their brand and products would no longer be uniform. they would have to change their entire mac line to fit the new charcoal colour, and seeing as how the newly released Macbook Airs stayed aluminum, i doubt they would.

Products they would have to change:
mac mini
mac pro
imac
cinema display
macbook air
keyboards
magic mouse
trackpad

i just dont see them doing that from a branding perspective

Black liquid metal Macbook Pros with Lightpeak?

Screw the credit card, just take my whole wallet. :apple:

Liquid metal. I like that concept, open the jar, pour it onto the desktop and it takes the shape of a MacBook Pro. Upgrades are a thing of the past as it will just be a firmware update. :p

Hmm... I've never thought of it that way before. Still praying for a black/gray option though. ;)

so tempted to sell my 2010 mbp 13" for this one..

You should.

I do not agree. I would love to have it darker in color. Aluminum is too bright.

Agreed.

And don't forget Windows Home Premium 7. Though you would like to get rid of it, you can't.

John Lewis, big UK retailer, also completely out of stock + had a clearance sale this week of the MBP's (15" and 17"'s dropped in price). More stock (whether current gen models or new ones, I hope the later) expected this week :D

Sold my 13" 2010 MBP two weeks ago and I've already been dying for a new laptop. I sold it at first major rumor clues... got a great price off it, but damn so glad it's coming up this week. Now to get 15" or 13"...
