Ok, so if there are going to be new MBPs next week, then why hasn't Apple announced any press event?

I think they will probably announce a press event on tuesday so that they can dominate headlines for the 2 days preceding the event. I'd be shocked if they dont do an overhaul beyond sandy bridge as they have tended to change the external design about every 2-3 years. If they dont do light peak or some large screen equivalent to a retina display then their big wow factor would be SSD/HDD hybrid system which wouldnt generate much amazement. But with such a huge delay between MBP's they'd be foolish not to at the least hold a major presser as anticipation is pretty huge. The retina display idea probably wont be a factor as they cant even afford retina screens for the iPad, but im hoping they make some improvements to the matte 17" to make the colors more vibrant.

Press event? What press event? Monday's a holiday and invites would have to go out on Tuesday, the day of the event in question.

Besides, there's no reason to hold an event for just a spec bump anyway, unless of course, light peak was indeed coming out. I could see Apple showcasing the technology through a keynote.

Edit: sorry I misread the post. But if the event was Thursday, two day's notice is still pretty short notice.

I hope so..
Someone look at it, take a pic. and share it with us, please
I can't wait 'till Tursday :(

The current 17" MBP gets about 8 hours. I'm thinking in order to get another 4 hours of battery life, they'd have to redesign it, like maybe remove the drive and replace it with a bigger battery or so. Oh and also, US Apple site now states a 3-5 day shipping time frame.

You know, I would like to see a numeric keypad (touch based) over the touchpad when activated, that would be awesome :p

But the update is gonna be awesome eaterway

Question next MBP update end 2011/begin 2012?

I'd say 2012.

Cue Europe's "The Final Countdown" song...

maybe if this was the last MBP's released:rolleyes:

It has to be;
Finally, now we can countdown ;)

I have it in my head that if there's no press conference then there's no big changes coming.

I guess that could be wrong though.

Right? :(

I believe the vast majority of the forum members are hoping you're wrong.
I don't think they'd threaten to revoke a reseller license if it was just a CPU bump. This is a redesign.

I'm anxious to see the specs.

The other day someone was arguing that a macbook/macbook pro was equivalent to Dull's $300 garbage. Yet when I pointed out that virtually everyone I know who purchased one of those cheap machines had buyers remorse while my computers last me years with no major complaints. Then the argument changed to "you get what you pay for" when I pointed out Dull's poor rankings in customer satisfaction. So in the end, he admitted those cheap computers are garbage but couldn't quite understand his comparison of those machines to a macbook were invalid given the relative performance of the machines and comparison of customer surveys. LOL

True story: I used to buy my wife win laptop every 6 month... After I buy her macbook 2009(late model) for $800, it's been as fast as the day I bought her the lappie...

NOW it's MY TURN!!!!!

Hmm... just two days ago I was in an Apple store. My 2009 MacBook Pro was still having issues... even after a hard drive and logic board replacement. They decided to order me a new 15" i7 2.8 machine. I wonder how I can get them to switch it out to a the new model? They did tell me that it could take up to 10 days before it arrives. Any thoughts?

My guess would be you have no chance of getting the new one. Likely you are getting a refurbished computer. I read somewhere once that is how it works with their phones on warranty.

what about iMacs

I know this is a little off topic and I'm new to these forums but I'd been hoping for new iMacs to be released soon. It appears that everyone is assured these new shipments are macbook pros. Does anybody have any idea about when new iMacs will ship?

With the release of Lion or after that is when we might see a keynote event with new Mac designs. Meanwhile they will do like always release some improvements to use the customers as a lab and gather tech details to improve and fix the next release.
Then buyers remorse and hundreds of posts in this forum asking for finding a way to upgrade to the next level.
After the newiPad, iPhone 5 and Lion plus the MobileMe new service is out is when will make sense to cash in for a new Mac.

Actually, he won't be buying any laptop, no one is going to deliver those specs for that price.

Actually, many companies already do. Take into account that I am switching from PC to Mac with this Macbook Pro release. But you just cant argue that PC's (both portable and desktop) dont offer more power for the price. With apple you are getting different things for the money. (superior build quality, OSX, great set of included software, etc)

For example:

ASUS G Series G53JW-XN1
Intel i7 740QM (Quad Core)
4GB 1333 DDR3
500GB 7200rpm HD
Nvidia 1.5GB GTX 460M
15.6" LED 1920x1080 display
USB 3.0
USB 2.0
Backlit Keyboard
1 year accidental damage warraty

$1,199.99

Well the manager guaranteed that it would be a new factory sealed machine in the original box as if you were buying it right off the shelf. I'll just play it by ear I guess. Thanks... and you are right about the iPhones they are 99% of the time refurbished.

how will apple know if they oepened them or not? if i was working at wherever they are being shipped too, you can guarantee id open that up, take 100's of pics and sell it to gizmodo, say by-bye to my job, but hello to 20 grand.

Crazy Russian Site

Link

This is my first post not sure if I put the link in right... sorry if it looks funny.

If you look at that Russian site that someone posted earlier it says (with the help of google translate) the new macbook pro will have a i7 2.66 8gb of ram and 512gb ssd.... seems too good to be true but man if that is what they plan to release there goes my wallet!

Update: looks like you have to click the buy button ... another image says they are adding ssd to the imac... but I am not in the market for a new imac.

+1 Very true.

Liquid-metal-vs-aluminum-670x504-550x413.jpg

OH MY GOD!! That has got to be the beautiful thing I have ever seen. If they did this, there is a 100% chance I am going to buy one right away.

I am honestly hoping for this (keep in mind thinking of upgraded 13', not the base one)

13"
i5 sandy bridge with 2.5 Ghz or up Quad
nvidia gt 500 m series (i think those are out, read something about it)
optical drive optional so you can get better battery life and dedicated graphics card
high res display

honestly i dont care to much about lightspeak

As we get closer and closer to the date I am getting less confident in Apple holding an event to launch these. Which says to me that these will not be a redesign, just a spec bump.
