the thing is that might show damage (scratches, and to a lesser extent, dust) a lot easier.

Liquid metal won't scratch, as it's significantly harder than anything likely to rub against it. It will still dent however.

i think the dark charcoal colour has to do with the new UI changes in Lion rather than a material change in the apple product line.

As much as I hate to say it, as a dark grey MBP would make me very happy, I have to agree. I don't think Liquid Metal is even black to start with (what metal is?), would likely be too expensive for an entire notebook case, and a whole lot of other little reasons.

So what the hell are these new MBPs suppose to have in it? Doesn't make sense that Apple hasn't even previewed them yet...

sell it to some poor schmuck asap!!!!!!!!!
HaHa...
+1 for that...
I sold mine earlier today in a really nice price(was still under coverege and really mint condition)..

Know this - no matter what the upgrade will be, it will still be a major one, even if it will only be speck bump. The previous model has 5 or more years old CPU (C2D), ain't that is crazy... - that was my first reason why to sell and buy the new one...

Lol, this is your first Apple hardware update, isn't it?

The only time I can think of that Apple previewed their hardware was for the original iPhone, and iPad. ie, brand new products that also needed certification.

I think the 13" will get the biggest update. Screen resolution will be bumped to 1400x900 and at least i3 processor if not Sandy Bridge. On the the 15 and 17" models I think aside from Sandy Bridge, we will probably see the option for adding a SSD system disc like the high end iMacs. I don't predict a case revision this year. Most likely there will be a major architectural change next year when they drop the optical drive, add additional battery power, light peak and a thinner case.

hell yeah, finally!

come on best buy employees, get with it! open up them sommabitches and post pics plz.

ohh, oops, i dont know too much about liquid metal.
yea...isn't it a new technology? i dont see them using it yet with production costs probably being way to high, although again, i dont know much about it.

Nah, this ain't my first rodeo... lol.

And I remember MBP/iMacs getting announced on their website a week or so before they hit the shelves.

compared to the 17 inch pro @ .80 inches!

also the 60 minute gaming battery life and 7.70 lbs weight......
To be fair the Asus g series is a portable gaming laptop not a serious competitor to the 17 inch mbp.

Funny...I'll be switching from an Asus G71G-A2 and the the G71G-Q.

6GB standard and a decent graphics card (9800 GS).

Big question for me at this point is what the new 15/17 Pro has for a card and I have a hope that Apple will continue to trend towards gaming with the App Store Gaming Profits and maybe the gaming code in Apple TV, plus Steam Mac will help.

13" should get 128gb ssd and i5 standard.

Right..................................

Samsung has their 9 series laptop coming up with core i5, 128GB SSD and 13 inch screen for like 1699 dollars. So, 1199 MBP should have that standard and 500 dollars cheaper?

RIGHTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

So, say the new MBP were available in stores on the 24th, how limited would stock be at Apple retail stores?

Remember those Apple patents for Carbon Fiber? If the Premium MBP has Carbon Fiber as part of the case....mmmmmm....

eff the competitors. don't care about them. apple is the leader in laptops as far as I'm concerned, they need to set the new standards

i'd love this news a lot more if they were the ipad 2 shipments.

Can't the Mac people get one day of news?
Let us savor it without talk of this "iPad."

Macs need a zombie revival! Eat brains of iPads! In a perfect world...

I cannot wait until Thursday! It's been so long... so long.

Finally the update is here.

As others have said this update will probably only be a spec bump in proccesor along with new features like more battery life, maybe no ODD on the smaller sized models and a bump on screen res.

Probably no re-design of the outside until the next update at the end of this year.

I'll probably wait until the next one and bear with my PC for another 9 - 10 months :(
