On a 13"
SB i5 dual core
4gb ram default
same SDD options as the MBA
nVidia 465m

seems likely imo...

+1 Very true.

it is interesting that they redesigned their webpages with the darker menu headings..

And I never understood why people expect a mobile device to power multiple monitors.

I travel for work, so I need a mobile computer. I have an external monitor at home, and one at the office. When I am not at those two places (in the field) and I am forced to use the one screen, and it slows my productivity dramatically.

Before I started using two screens on a regular basis, I did not understand the impact that it would have on my productivity, and ease of use.

I look forward to the new refresh, and I will be purchasing the "adapter" to allow me to use an external monitor.

Bring'm on... but it doesn't seem like Apple to have a major redesign without a press conference? Maybe it's too close to the iPad2 launch and their saving the press conference for then?

Actually, many companies already do. Take into account that I am switching from PC to Mac with this Macbook Pro release. But you just cant argue that PC's (both portable and desktop) dont offer more power for the price. With apple you are getting different things for the money. (superior build quality, OSX, great set of included software, etc)

For example:

ASUS G Series G53JW-XN1
Intel i7 740QM (Quad Core)
4GB 1333 DDR3
500GB 7200rpm HD
Nvidia 1.5GB GTX 460M
15.6" LED 1920x1080 display
USB 3.0
USB 2.0
Backlit Keyboard
1 year accidental damage warraty

$1,199.99

I'm in the same boat as you. Looking to buy my first OSX machine. That Asus is fuuugly.

On a 13"
SB i5 dual core - Fair enough
4gb ram default - Possible, but more likely on higher end 13"
same SDD options as the MBA - Very likely
nVidia 465m - Bahahahaha!!! Wait, you are joking, right?

A nvidia 465m is just not going to happen. It draws way too much power. Won't even happen on a 17".
Face it, the 13" is almost certainly going to be stuck with the Intel 3000 iGPU.

Any decent GPUs are going to be on the 15" and 17" only, will hopefully be from AMD, and best case scenario will be a 66x0M on the 15", and 68x0M on the 17". Although realistically, that's pushing it.

This actually makes a lot of sense! Apple's been moving to black on several fronts (black keys on notebooks, black glass displays, black iMacs, black iPhones, black AppleTV). The fact that they changed the menu buttons on Apple.com from silver metal to a dark shade of metal could indicate their new signature colour.

I love the silver Mac's but I'm noticing that it's lost some of its prestige. It's just so common now. Black liquid metal will look spectacular I think. It'll definitely refresh the look of Apple's professional line up.

And it weighs 8 pounds...

I certainly wasnt implying that it was superior in anyway. Simply showing that there are "laptops" with the specs he wanted at the price he wanted.

It just happens that for that much power you have the trade off of ugly, heavy, and minimal battery life.

If they do go to the much darker look then this entire year will be refreshes to that shade. I can already picture a wicked looking MBA :D

Quoted for truth.

Sleek, for sure!

I hope the optical drive is gone.

Liquid metal won't scratch, as it's significantly harder than anything likely to rub against it. It will still dent however.

As much as I hate to say it, as a dark grey MBP would make me very happy, I have to agree. I don't think Liquid Metal is even black to start with (what metal is?), would likely be too expensive for an entire notebook case, and a whole lot of other little reasons.

LiquidMetal isn't black naturally, it's silver. It's been used in golf clubs (specifically drivers) since the early 2000's (golf is my profession). Those clubs and their color are indistinguishable from titanium (silver in color). Also, look at the SIM ejector tool that shipped with the iPhone 3G and 3GS...those were LiquidMetal, and were as silver as polished aluminum. Very few people even know that the SIM ejector tool is LiquidMetal...that's how much like aluminum/titanium it looks.

I do remember reading somewhere that the SIM ejector tool is liquid metal.

I'd be happy with an i3 core in the 13 inch, but i hope the graphics are on par/better to what it is in the current model. Also, i'd actually want the Optical drive and maybe a better battery.

I actually like the design how it is now, so if it gets a MBA style is a little too thin for me and no optical drive-I'd assume I would still be possible to get a 2010 macbook pro?

I'm currently using a 3 yr old Hp (1.83 ghz, 250gb hd, 4gb ram), but i've had it with windows, slow load up times, and virus attacks that norton seems to not be able to fully take care of.

If Apple can't at least match Acer's specs then I'll be buying the Acer.

Too bad you'll be throwing that thing away in 6 months. And lots of luck getting someone on the phone w/Acer should you have problems.

You get what you pay for.

I surely hope for and AMD GPU, but as far as I've read the chances are minimal. And to keep a 1200$+ laptop on Intel IGP will make it extremely subpar.

I'm frustrated and excited at the same time!
Just got my 13inch macbook pro 4 months back :p

id be more frustrated than excited lol.

I hate how Apple is going to release these new mbp's on thursday and then but on their website how they practically kick the s**** out of the Arrandales. It makes me feel like my 8 month old machine is worthless.

Here is why I think there will be NO press conference.

1. Steve is sick. Too sickly to get up on stage and talk, if he does down goes the stock price.
2. If they had a conference someone else would need to speak. Likely a mixture between Scott Forstall, Schiller, Mansfield, and maybe Ives. They are all decent, but none of them are Steve. A conference isn't the same without Jobs, and we don't need more negative PR based on bad-speakers and no sign of Jobs.
3. Apple realized Jobs may be out of the picture soon (god forbid) but it's possible. Apple has no real front-runner to take his place. Sure, Scott has the face for it, but he can't replace Steve right away.

What is my point? Apple knows that conferences without Steve might generate bad PR. So they want to get people used to releases WITHOUT conferences. People have come to expect amazing things from apple every time with a media event.

Come Thursday we will have some new releases, apple will post a video online like they did with the MBA detailing the design changes (if any).

Lightpeak? Before the recent CNET report everyone doubted it. I still think the chances are slim, but anything is possible.

Bullseye. :apple:

hm interesting,

I could have sworn they didn't used to put the following line on the refurb items:

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Originally released April 2010
13.3-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

anyone confirm?
